About Gil and Jacqueline Darlavoix

Anglo/French we love sharing our passion for France, and the Vendée in particular. Jacqueline is a Vendee Property Finder so staying with us is ideal if you are searching for a home in the area.

We have 2 dogs, Caramel (the greedy spaniel) and Hortense (the rather posh standard poodle, well she thinks she is ).

Gil and Jacqueline Darlavoix purchased this bed and breakfast in 2014

Why Gil and Jacqueline Darlavoix chose Curzon

We bought our property in December 2014 and soon set to work booking renovations. We have totally renovated the property, offering luxurious accommodation whilst maintaining the original features of the fisherman's cottage which dates back to the 1700's.

Tranquillity surrounds the property which is located in a beautiful village full of golden stone houses. The location sold the house to us and we thought it would be ideal to share the peace and quiet with people who are seeking a stay to recharge or enjoy the fabulous nature. Kayak from just outside our gates into the Marais Poitevin to see storks and herons. Arrange a picnic on your return.

Many guests return year on year. Like us, they love the combination of the peaceful seclusion with only birds for sound coupled with sandy beaches and towns within 10 mins.

What makes this bed and breakfast unique

Gourmet meals available.

Tailor made holidays including:

Massage, bike hire, scenic flights, wine tours and kayaking.

Blissful natural setting by a river. The house has a gorgeous heated pool and a sunny south facing garden full of flowers broken in 'rooms' so that you can always find a quiet spot on your own.

Arrive, relax and recharge! We aim to ensure our guests leave feeling pampered and wanting to return.

Simply stunning

  • 5 of 5

Did a lot of research before choosing a property to stay as we wanted some where quiet with a pool. Gil and Jacqueline were amazing hosts, their home is beautiful. It took us about 6.5hrs from Calais to drive but next time I think we will fly into La Rochelle . We had a three course meal cooked for us that night , the table was set out lovely felt so romantic. We decided to have a quick walk out that evening but while we were out it started raining really heavy , in the distance we could see Gil who came looking for us with an umbrella so thoughtful. The next day we spent by their pool enjoying the hot weather , pool was heated so it was beautiful. We visited La Rochelle only 20min drive it was lovely , that evening they had booked a riverside restaurant for us to have a meal which was lovely. Every morning the table was decorated and set up for us , to enjoy breakfast. We stayed in the suite which is decorated beautifully and clean , nothing was too much trouble. If you really want a relaxing weekend this is the place for you , we are booking again next year , thank you Gil and Jacqueline for making our stay perfect In every way and see you again soon x

Another Fantastic Holiday

  • 5 of 5

This was our second visit with our two teenage boys. We had such a warm welcome, it was like visiting old friends. It is a convenient location to the beaches and seaside towns and good walking across the marshes.

As with out last visit Gill cooked for us every evening, food was as amazing as ever and nice to not have to worry about driving to make the most of the local wine.

Sure we will be back again

A hidden gem! So peaceful and quiet and yet so close to so many great things to see and do.

  • 5 of 5

Very tranquil location and great French breakfasts. The children loved the swimming pool and the friendly spaniel and poodle. From the property we saw: red squirrels, egrets, herons, owls and bats so a great spot for nature lovers. Car hire recommended as most day trips are a drive away. There is a huge new water park nearby and a park full of action and adventure (Indian forest) which is brilliant for slightly older children/ teenagers. In addition there is a large range of beautiful, clean beaches within 30-40 minutes drive. Parking is free and you never struggle for a parking space.

What a gem

  • 5 of 5

What a find, having been camping for the start of our holiday we arrived at this beautiful B&B in Curzon.

We were greeted by Gill & Jaquiline who made us feel welcome & at home, great hosts who wanted us to enjoy our stay with our friends in the two beautifully newly furnished rooms.

The two rooms share a lovely pool & garden area where you can relax after a day's site seeing around Curzon & the coastal attractions.

A car is recommended due to the location which is quite but equally peaceful & full of natural settings & wildlife.

Breakfast is served outside under a converted shelter overlooking the pool with lots of local produce & strong coffee which sets you up for the day, evening meal is a optional extra & defiantly worth savouring along with the local wines.

Both Gill & Jaquline go out of their way to make sure that you have a wonderful stay & certainly would be a venue which we would return & recommend to friends & family.

Good luck for the future.

Steve & Elaine.

Best Family Holiday Ever!!

  • 5 of 5

The website looked great and when we arrived, it was even lovelier. Two luxury rooms with great bathrooms, fluffy towels and wifi access. We came with two teenagers so they had their own space which they appreciated. The pool was warm and inviting and we swam every day. The property borders the Marais marshes so we had great walks, saw storks, egrets, water voles, woodpeckers, owls and heard the frogs. The breakfast was fantastic with fresh selection of different croissants, bread and toast every day with a selection of freshly made jams. A nice pot of tea for mum too! And then evening dinner... We were truly spoilt, Gil's cooking was a delight. Started with drinks and nibbles, three courses and a bottle of wine, experiencing food from the area and an explanation of everything we ate. We liked it so much we had dinner every night. The table was laid beautifully and changing in theme regularly. Jacqueline & Gil were delightful hosts and nothing was too much trouble and great advice about where to visit. We were 15-20 minutes to the beach and there were a good variety from calm to surfing. Being with two teenagers they were happy mixing swimming with watching films and playing games on their handheld devices, we didn't have an I'm bored once so happy parents too. We made the Caen Ferry in 3.5 hours on the motorway. On our way home we voted it our best ever family holiday.

White washed houses, blue shutters, sunflowers and sunshine! That sums up the Vendee in a nutshell. Add in the sunny microclimate and miles of sandy beaches, vineyards and sunflower fields and it's France to perfection!

Wonderful pine forests back long sandy beaches, marinas with restaurants and historical towns with chateaux and churches to explore. The Vendee has Puy du Fou, an amazing historical theme parc for adults and children. Not to be missed. Near the property we now have a brand new aqua parc covering several acres.
