Famously described by Dylan Thomas as 'the loveliest village in England', The Cuttlefish is the perfect spot to soak it all in. A bespoke blend of old meets new, this unique coastal property is straight from the pages of a glossy mag and the piece de resistance… a triple tiered exotic garden, a rare treat in Mousehole! The Cuttlefish boasts some of the best views in the west. From it's privileged hillside position, just minutes' walk from the beach, it offers panoramic sea views to the harbour below and beyond to Cornwall's legendary St Michael's Mount.
My fiancee and I purchased The Cuttlefish back in 2012 and in doing so undertook a huge renovation project. We both fell in love with Mousehole many years before and to own a property here was a dream come true. When we saw The Cuttlefish was for sale we jumped at the opportunity to buy it, it truly is a unique property. Unlike most properties in the village, The Cuttlefish is large and spacious with plenty of outdoor space, something which is quite rare. The views from every room are outstanding and to stay here feels like a real privilege.
The position of the property is ideal. Set on the hillside up a footpath, you are away from the hustle and bustle of the village, which allows privacy and relaxation, however just a 2 minute walk and you are in the harbour and on the beach.
It is rare to have sea views in Mousehole, however the elevated position of the property offers stunning panoramic sea views across to St Clements Isle and across to St Michael's Mount.
Offering generous outdoor space, the property is also host to a triple teared exotic garden. Perfect for alfresco dining, the property boasts a Pizza Oven, BBQ, Fire Pit for the colder nights and beautiful outdoor seating area to take in the views.
This is the best holiday rental we've ever stayed in. We were blown away by just how lovely everything was the moment we walked in, and it only kept getting better after that. Getting in is a bit of a mission as many of Mousehole's streets, including the one on which the Cuttlefish stands, are really only steep footpaths. This makes the whole place incredibly quaint and tranquil. If you're coming by car you park nearby, carry your bags up the little path to the house, meeting some of Mousehole's famous friendly felines along the way, and step into an exquisitely presented period house. I couldn't get back to park the car quick enough, and the stress from the long drive dissolved in an instant. The house is immaculate but feels relaxed. Because it's near the top of the town it has stunning views out to the bay and is handy for gorgeous cliff walks. And it’s like the house knows what you’re thinking before you’ve thought it. Music? There's a top-notch sound system that'll connect to any phone via bluetooth. Film and telly? There's a stock of Blu-ray/DVDs and smart TV that you can connect to your Netflix account. Cappuccino? There's a machine and enough decent ground coffee to get even the most caffeine-dependent fiends through the first couple of mornings. In fact, everything in the kitchen is well thought out, fantastically specced, and looks great. Pans are heavy-bottomed, knives are laser-sharp and even the salt and pepper grinder are the best we've ever used. Even the water by the bed—not only are there glasses but jugs. Jugs I tell you! The bedrooms are tranquil and comfortable, with amazing views, and the bathroom is stunning, with a huge roll-top bath and powerful shower. One feature we were really glad of was the garden. They're a rarity in Mousehole apparently, and with this one you get to spread out over three tiers! Whether it's coffee and breakfast in the morning or a glass of wine and dinner in the evening, you feel really spoiled taking in the view in the sun-trap. Mousehole itself, if you've never been, is fantastic. You might not even need that amazing kitchen as there are lots of great places to eat out, from fine dining to fish 'n' chips. The attention to detail and execution are exemplary, but never take away from the relaxed charm of the place. You can feel the love and care that's gone into this place from the moment you arrive to the moment you reluctantly leave.
