About Maurice Pearson
We moved to Cornwall in 2002 and have been letting Myrtle Cottage since 2003. Since our retirement from professional life we have established a small business making hand-crafted leather work which we sell through shows across the county. We keep a few chickens, grow our own veg and love the country life around the woods and creeks of the Helford. Now that we have the time we have decided to market our holiday cottage ourselves, offering a more personal service to customers at better prices.
Maurice Pearson purchased this Cottage in 2002
Why Maurice Pearson chose Helston
We were looking for a peaceful, rural lifestyle near to family and the sea. The Helford River is arguably one of the most beautiful spots in Cornwall.
What makes this Cottage unique
There are many beautiful walks accessible from the cottage through National Trust woodland, along the coastal path, with coves and beaches where each season brings its own gems. The best spring flowers in May, mackerel in early summer, shrimping in August, wild mushrooms and shellfish for the picking in the autumn and the wild sea in winter. The local foot ferry drops you off at the sub-tropical gardens of Trebah and Glendurgan and there are plenty of opportunities to take to the water. Both St Anthony and Helford have sailing, kayaking and fishing boats for hire.
The best holiday cottage we’ve stayed
This is more than a holiday cottage can offer. The cottage itself has full of characters and very well maintained, the bedrooms and bathroom are spacious, all beds are so comfortable and clean, the garden is beautiful too. More importantly, the owners (Barbara & Maurice) made us so welcoming, we had yummy home made cake, eggs and jam on arrival, fresh flowers on every room, this is definitely the best holiday cottage we’ve stayed.
Little bit of heaven
Arrived opened the door and felt at home straight away, really lovely cottage decorated & furnished well the garden is quiet and pretty two nice bedrooms nothing else we needed a scrummy chocolate cake fresh eggs were also left for us thank you Barbara, would we recommend YES points out of 10 we voted 11+ do we look at returning yes we didn't get round to half the visits on our list both Maurice and Barbara made us feel like we were visiting friends. Just started your bag!
Just spent a fantastic week in Myrtle Cottage... just wonderful... perfect!
Everything you could ever need, so clean and comfortable. Maurice and Barbara are lovely,.... thank you Barbara for the eggs, cake and fresh flowers. Already booked for next year!! x
A piece of Cornish heaven!
Lovely cosy cottage in an ideal spot for walking or touring the Lizard area. The welcome food of eggs, milk, homemade jam and cake, plus flowers in every room were an extra bonus. Definitely a place to return to.
Lovely little Cornish cottage
Spent a lovely week at this little Cornish cottage. The weather was lovely and spent some time sunbathing in the lovely garden.
I kept bumping my head on the lower 'beams' but got used to that and it all added to the really enjoyable stay.
The owners/hosts were very kind, providing assistance and lovely cake, eggs and jam. Yummy. Thanks ever so much.
Beautiful cottage, well equipped with everything you should need. Fresh flowers in every room, milk in fridge all ready for the much needed cup of tea. Freshly baked cup cakes, absolutely fantastic. Maurice and Barbara are such lovely people, very welcoming. Barbara delivered freshly picked raspberries the following morning, I have to say they were delicious. The area is beautiful. So many nice areas to visit, beautiful coves to explore. No need to venture far at all. It was like home from hone, with Twig the cat, Merlin the dog and the escaping chicken who all paid us a visit every morning.
I would highly recommend this cottage and area to anyone.
St Anthony beach is about a mile from the cottage, Helford River beaches are closer and an easy walk. Other Lizard beaches and coves are a short drive.
Newquay airport is the closest about 1.25 hours drive.
Use of a car is essential here although there is a rural bus service.
Myrtle is midway between Helford and Manaccan about .5 mile walk to either village. Helston is about 10 miles distant.
The Helford River is designated a site of special scientific interest (SSSI) with sessile oak woodland, wading birds, estuarine shellfish and many walks.
There are good local pubs, restaurants and local shops in the villages surrounding Manaccan. Supermarkets, banks and other facilities are located in Helston. There is a foot ferry at Helford giving access to the sub tropical gardens of Trebah and Glendurgan with its maze.
