Cosy 1-bed traditional Dales cottage with all mod cons, tranquil location, home from home.
About Phil Brewster
Despite this not being our primary residence, my partner & I love the Dales, and escape here as often as work allows. But as we can't be here all the time we don't see why others shouldn't enjoy the use of such a lovely property, in such a gorgeous setting. As it's our 2nd home, it's been furnished to a high standard with all mod-cons. We've been very lucky that everyone who's been to stay has loved it. So much so that we get people coming back year after year (one couple like it so much they've been 6 times and have already booked a break for next year). We aim to make your stay as enjoyable and as hassle-free as possible. And hope that at the end of your stay you'll feel like you don't want to leave.
Why Phil Brewster chose Hawes
The barn itself is right at the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, so it's a perfect base to explore & visit the surrounding countryside. Anyone who's ever watched James Herriot's 'All Creatures Great & Small' will know that the local scenery is stunning. The walking is fantastic too, but if the weather's not great there are plenty of places to visit including castles, museums, steam railways etc. And if eating out is your thing there are plenty of pubs, tea-shops, restaurants & cafes - all of which serve food to a high standard. Most of all, the people are really friendly - despite the (undeserved) reputation of Yorkshire folk being monosyllabic!
What makes this Barn unique
We feel it's got everything you could ask for. Access from the front door to the Dales, but close enough to towns and villages when you need them. The barn has full electric central heating & a multi-fuel stove for when you want that warm, cosy log-fire atmosphere. One other selling point - unlike many other cottages we DON'T charge extra for coal/wood in Winter (in some cases up to £20 extra a week), so you won't have to worry about any extra hidden costs.
Please consider the following guidelines when booking this property:
100% refund for cancellations more than 60 days before check-in date. 50% refund for cancellations more than 30 days before check-in date.
Views are beautiful
Lovely cottage with views of Yorkshires amazing landscape from each window. Very cosy, excellent amenities, fully equipped kitchen. The owners were very friendly and helpful. Would love to return.
Four days felt like two weeks!
This property was an absolute joy! From the moment we drew our car onto the drive and walked up the steps to the little front door, we knew we had booked the perfect cottage. So comfortable and peaceful, attention to detail, plus those beautiful views.... What more could one wish for. Thanks Phil, it was such a pleasure.
Lovely cottage in a great location
We really enjoyed our stay at Westburn Cottage. The cottage was comfortable and well equipped and is ideally situated for exploring the dales: lots of lovely walks and sites to visit.
Hello William. Thank you for your review - it's very kind of you to take the time to respond. I'm delighted you had a good time at Westburn Cottage and that you had everything you needed for an enjoyable stay. If you're back in the Dales in the future, we'd love to have you come & stay again. Kind regards - Phil
Enjoyable stay in Newbiggin
Lovely quite secluded location, very surprised how quiet and peaceful this location is. Cottage compact but functional. Must say not suitable for people who have issues with stairs which is my only critical comment. Lots of firewood supplied. Lovely little garden outback. Good supply reading material. Nearby pub very good. We would absolutely rent this cottage again if we every came back.
Stunning views and a home away from home!
We thoroughly enjoyed our 4 nights stay. It was a beautiful property with all the amenities you could need. Cozy wood burning stove, well equipped kitchen, very comfortable bed, very nice shower room with electric heat. The cottage is on a little quiet lane off the main road with no thru traffic so extremely quiet. The view of the valley from the backyard patio is amazing. The VRBO pictures are actual views from the cottage. We had no idea how nice this would be for such a great price! Footpaths very close to doorstep and so close to Aysgarth Falls. Very lovely !!
Cottage in the beautiful Wensleydale
Very well equipped cottage. Fabulous views in a small quiet hamlet
A lovely cottage to come back too after a day out. This is a lovely place for a wonderful relaxing break. Would recommend the cottage and area without hesitation. The booking was made for us by our son who said Phil the owner was great to deal with nothing too much trouble .We would concur with this as we met him whilst there . Thank you Phil .
Hello Jacqueline. It was lovely to meet you both too, & thank you for such a kind review. It's always nice to hear that people have enjoyed their stay and that you had everything you needed for a relaxing stay. If you're back this way again, please come and stay - we'd love to have you back. Kind regards - Phil
The nearest airports are Teeside, Newcastle, or Leeds-Bradford airport. To fully enjoy the surrounding countryside & all it has to offer you WILL need a vehicle public transport is limited and does not stop at every small village & town.
The nearest pub to Newbiggin is 400 yards away. The villages of Thoralby (1 mile away) & West Burton (2 miles away) both have a shop and pub. Slightly further afield are the market towns of Leyburn & Hawes (approx 8 & 9 miles away). Both also have petrol stations.
The are numerous surrounding dales to visit including the four main ones - Wensleydale, Swaledale, Wharfedale & Coverdale - all of which offer fantastic countryside and walking. Visitor attractions include Bolton Castle, West Burton waterfall, Hardraw Force, The Wensleydale Creamery in Hawes (which makes fantastic cheese!). We also provide guests with lists of other suggested places to eat & visit.
