Bleak House Lodge was built in 1801 as the lodge house for Bleak House, made famous in the novel of the same name by Charles Dickens. Located in a quite street in the heart of Broadstairs, the cottage is just a few moments walk from both Viking Bay and Stone Bay, as well as the many restaurants, cafes and bars the town has to offer. The property has been sympathetically renovated in 2014. It has stripped wooden floors and cast iron radiators. Where possible original features have been maintained, creating an authentic period atmosphere. There are separate living and dining rooms, both with open fires. Two bedrooms, one with an en suite shower room. Beds have very comfortable deep, sprung mattresses and are dressed with good quality white bed linen. There is also a beautiful south facing walled garden and terrace with table, chairs and a webber barbecue. The living room has a smart TV and wifi is available throughout the property. The living room opens up through to another sitting room (which opens onto the garden). This has a sofa, chair and extending dining table. The house is suitable for small children as the staircase leading from the dining room has a door. There is also a stair gate at the top of the stairs. A travel cot and a high chair are available for use, also a small box of toys for younger children.

Excellent stay, such a nice house.
I stayed with my wife and 8 year old daughter for a short two night break. The house was really nice, as described, very well kept, comfortable and elegantly decorated. We had a calm and relaxing time, a good opportunity to switch off from London. We cooked at the house and went out, everything needed was there. The beds and linen were comfortable, everything worked.
But also, the chance to be in a beautiful old house built of flint in the historical context of Dickens’s Broadstairs felt unique and added very much to the positive experience.
We’re all grateful for the hospitality and the opportunity of this experience.
Thank you so much for your review. I'm so pleased you enjoyed your stay, and hope you will return soon.
It was Great !
It was the perfect cottage in Broadstairs Kent....and accommodated all 5 adult members of my family. It was immaculate with a wonderful garden and walking distance to eveything. We will book it again !!
Beautifully decorated cottage
We had a very nice and comfortable stay here. Our 3 years old daughter had a great time playing with the house's toys and in the garden.
Beautiful house in the perfect location with a gorgeous garden
Bleak Lodge has been tastefully renovated and has every comfort and convenience. The garden is a gem and a real bonus. The proximity to both Viking bay, Stone bay and all the restaurants of Broadstairs made for an easy relaxing break. There were some toys and games which kept our 6 year old entertained too. I’m sure we will be returning.
A very special house with a lot of character
We have had a wonderful family break. The garden was a dream! The house lay out was purfect, as everyone had space without bothering each othwr. We loved all the little details in the decor. Overall it was great and we would definitely recomend staying there.
Myself and tree girlfriends stayed at the cottage last weekend, its traditionally furnished ut with modern amenities and a lovely herb garden at the back. Just round the corner from Charles Dickens Bleak House and a stones throw from the main sandy beach. I would recommend it either for a friends break or family holiday.
The property is just a few moments walk from the sandy beaches of both Viking Bay and Stone Bay. Perfect for both children and adults alike.
