About Charlotte Rowell

My husband, Lance and I visited the island for the first time in 2013 and were completely captivated by the rural charm, amazing light and friendly people. We were so lucky to have the opportunity to buy Paliostafitha and are really looking forward to sharing it with our guests. As this will be our second home we are making it as comfortable and luxurious as possible with everything that we would want and we hope that you will enjoy the improvements that we have made. A full range of outdoor furniture offers the chance to sunbathe or read a book by the pool or swing in the hammock beneath the old olive trees. Alternatively, sink into the rattan chairs to enjoy a glass of wine. The choice is yours!

Why Charlotte Rowell chose Zakinthos

We visited the island for a short break during the summer of 2013 and heard that Paliostafitha was coming on to the market. The house and garden offered everything we were looking for and we are really excited about spending more time out there and offering our guests a memorable holiday in this charming part of the island. If you are seeking a lively clubbing night life this is not for you, but if you enjoy the wonderful variety of tavernas, relaxing by the pool or in the shaded garden and trips to Shipwreck Bay or the Blue Caves, this is the perfect base.

What makes this villa unique

Paliostafitha is blessed by the most amazing location, high enough to enjoy the cooling breezes with panoramic views of the sea and the island. It is five minutes away from the local fishing village and the Pelegoni club, and a short distance away from many local tavernas. The mature garden offers peace and solitude and is not overlooked. The house is spacious enough for large parties and the pool is well situated with fantastic views and shaded terraces nearby. It is heated and has a child-proof cover. All the bedrooms have en suite bathrooms. We sleep 8 in comfort but can cope with an extra small child. The house has satellite internet, European lavatory plumbing, air-conditioning and mosquito blinds.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We have had a fantastic half term week and villa and weather were perfect for children. A wonderful first visit.

A fantastic villa with a stunning view

  • 5 of 5

This is the second time our family has stayed at the villa. The improvements the owners have made are lovely, particularly one of the bedrooms.

This holiday was for my eightieth birthday and I cannot think of anywhere I would have rather been to celebrate it.

The people who look after the villa were so good, nothing was too much trouble for them.

There are some really nice restaurants in the area, and we found a lovely place to eat at Agios Leon, well worth visiting.

I could go on forever, but the best thing to do is stay at the villa and see for yourselves.

beautiful villa, pool, grounds...with over 90 metres of terrace overlooking the valley and sea. very well equipped and excellently maintained with any queries instantly sorted by the extremely genial and efficient local 'manager' Giorgos. it feels very private as it is not overlooked by any other property. a lovely variety of outside 'spaces' so you can lounge by the pool, swing in the hammock under olive trees, sit at the large, shaded wooden terrace table etc etc, We have stayed in many villas and this was our favourite.

The owners have excellent taste!

Heaven on Earth

  • 5 of 5

This is a gem. It is set up the hill from pretty little harbour and you have fabulous views from the terrace and even when you are swimming in the infinity pool. The pool is heated, which was a treat ... Others we met at other villas were not as lucky!

The house is well equipped but don't eat in too often as there are excellent tavernas by the harbour and along the coastline, which are reasonably priced. We were tempted to do a "Shirley Valentine" and stay forever. If you are looking for a villa in Zakinthos, look no further - you will not be disappointed.

A little piece of heaven

  • 5 of 5

This is one fantastic holiday home. We love that it is fairly recently built but has the look of a traditional Greek farmhouse but with all mod cons (flyscreens, (almost) silent air-conditioning, ice machine fridge etc). We love it so much that we have now visited three times. Each time it is harder to tear ourselves away. The views are simply breath-taking and the air is so fresh you feel it is like a drink. It is in the more remote North part of the island where it is like time has stood still for the past 40 years. Locals are so friendly and restaurants still offer free local dishes, homemade desserts and drinks. Coming from London one forgets what real silence is like - only tinkling goat bells, the sound of the wind in the olive trees and the cry of a circling hunting bird. Life here is so relaxed. The only decisions are whether to stay at "home" and have a bbq or go to one of several very good and very cheap restaurants within a 10 minute drive. Many restaurants offer a collection service to and from their restaurant. Perhaps one of our favourites was the "Shirley Valentine" type beach-side restaurant La Storia down at the port or the charming home-cooking of the little cafe just above "secret beach" on the other side of the harbour. We love taking a boat trip out to the famous "blue caves" and swimming in private coves discovering hidden caves where the water is phosphorescent. Driving is a real pleasure with almost no other vehicles; the only concern is bumping into a goat herd! Time has stood still here - it is just a shame that the holidays don't go at the same pace! We cannot wait to return.

The little port of Aghios Nicolaos is just 5 mins drive away which has a beach. Alykes is further away but offers long beaches with lots of water sports. You can also take a boat trip that goes to the famous ship wreck bay, and also the blue caves. We can arrange boat hire, either self-drive or with a skipper.

Zakynthos airport and mainland ferry terminal is 40 mins drive away. Ferry to Cephalonia five min drive.

The village of Volimes is a 15 min drive away, which sells local pottery and lace items. The famous Peligoni club is 5 min drive away which has water sports and sailing. The port of Agios Nicolas with ferry to Cephalonia is 5 min away. The port has various tavenas and bars overlooking the port and beach, spectacular art bar, internet cafe etc. The beautifully positioned Windmill restaurant and stone park (animals and geology) are within walking distance.

Further Details:

Zakynthos town which is 50 mins drive away, is a thriving, charmingly chaotic place to visit, good shops, restaurants, churches and museums. The town has a good night life and outside cinema. You can explore the lush green mountains; spring is an especially pretty time to visit the island as all the wild flowers are blooming, the views are stunning. There are many varied tavernas but all with spectacular views to visit along the coast. You can also visit the turtle breeding sanctuaries or the famous Ship Wreck cove. Baby sitting is also available.
