Surrounded by vineyards and rolling hills, the unspoilt village of Faugères dates back to the 11th century, and gives its name to one of the most highly regarded wines in the South of France. Situated in Herault, Southern France just inside the Languedoc National Park, with mountains behind and the sea in front, it is an ideal place to base yourself; whether you are looking for a holiday exploring historical sites, walking, cycling, lazing on the beaches of the nearby Mediterranean coast, visiting vineyards or just relaxing on the terrace. There is everything you could wish to have for a holiday. Sandy Mediterranean beaches are 35 minutes away. Wonderful lakes and rivers in breathtaking locations nearby offer another alternative for swimming. Montpellier and Bezier are good centres for shopping. A 20 minute drive away is the lively medieval town of Pezenas, home of Moliere, with period architecture, a great choice of restaurants, pavement cafes, antiques and a lively Saturday market.

About Lorraine Logie
We are Scottish, I am from the Orkney Islands and my husband is from Glasgow. We have two wonderful children with whom we have spent many happy holidays in the villa.
Lorraine Logie purchased this Villa in 2005
Why Lorraine Logie chose Faugères
This particular part of the Languedoc and Herault, the Languedoc National Park, offers everything that you could wish for. Coming from Scotland the landscape beyond the villa and towards the mountains particularly appealed to us and made us feel at home somehow. Then to be able to also travel quickly to the beach makes it perfect for us, and, we hope, for you too.
What makes this Villa unique
This wee villa is very unusual in having wonderful and unrestricted views with nothing to spoil them for as far as the eye can see. The wonderful (optionally heated) infinity pool is an absolute pleasure to use at any time of the year. The location of the villa means you can enjoy many different aspects of this part of the country. There are many activities that can be enjoyed by young and old alike. The local wines are abundant, excellent and inexpensive!
Pool / Spa
Lou Cigallou is the perfect holiday villa! The views are amazing and the house is wonderful with everything you could need for the perfect holiday. We stayed for 10 nights in may with our 2 year old son who loved playing in all the outdoor space and slept like a log in his room every night!
Lorraine, bob, Adrian and Nick were really welcoming and looked after us brilliantly!
We'll definitely be back
Thank you so much for this wonderful review...it means all the more to us because you have written it despite experiencing some quite unexpected issues! We are so pleased that you still had a lovely time on your holiday, and especially that your wee one enjoyed the pool.
We truly hope we will be able to look after you all again sometime in the very near future.
Haste ye back

An idyllic stay at Lou Cigallou
During the last two weeks of September when the weather was hot and sunny we had a superb stay at Lou Cigallou. For the first week our daughter, son-in-law and grandson stayed with us. This lovely, clean and well maintained property provided all that we needed for our convenient and comfortable stay.
The patio was ideal for our outside dining and relaxation and we had great fun and enjoyment using the good sized pool, which we were in twice daily.
The property is very private and we loved the panoramic views of the neighbouring countryside and vineyards from the patio and pool. Sitting out in the evenings looking at the night sky and soaking up the peace and tranquility was also lovely.
The property is well located on the edge of the Village and within easy walking distance of the local bistro Dame Jean which serves good lunches and wines. Good sized supermarkets are not far away, as are many vineyards selling excellent Faugeres wines.
Our many thanks go to owner Lorraine for her warmth and kindness in making our booking of the property so easy and for ensuring our stay was as good as it was and to Nick and Adrian for their warmth, care and thoughtfulness during our stay.
We hope to stay again at Lou Cigallou

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience, and in such detail. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your holiday. It was lovely to meet you too, and having met you both I am even more pleased that such lovely Guests as yourselves had a good experience.
We look forward to seeing you again before too long. Haste ye back!
We stayed with our twin babies and 3 year old daughter. As a family with small children we stay in holiday rentals very regularly and this has to be the best equipped one we have stayed in, everything had been thought of and they even managed to get an extra cot and high chair for the twins.
The area is lovely, especially if you appreciate good wine and food. If only the weather had been better...
Although the village is walkable there are few facilities so a car would be essential for this property.
Great property with views over the vineyards
2nd time at the villa and it was as we remembered it. Fantastic relaxing holiday overlooking the local vineyard. Lorraine was extremely helpful through the booking process and was local should there be any for assistance. The villa is well equipped and we found everything we needed to make it an most enjoyable holiday. The pool is great, we used it most days and especially after being out for the day at one of the local towns sight seeing our visiting one of the beaches.
The description of the villa from the web page is completely accurate, with no false promises.
We enjoyed it so much we have already booked next year.
Thank you so much for your lovely words. We are especially pleased that our returning Guests have no regrets in doing so! We have now also confirmed all the details for your 3rd holiday with us next year. We're looking forward to looking after you again in 2019...
Beautiful villa and location
Beautiful villa set in a quiet picturesque location. Lorraine has thought of everything when it comes to the villa and it is clear that her quests enjoyment is her main priority and focus. The pool and villa are serviced by Nick and Adrian who are very helpful and also very knowledgeable about the area - useful if you plan to visit the local area.
If you want to kick back and relax this is the place for you.
Thank you for a lovely relaxing stay.
Thank you so much for your lovely review. It makes us happy to know that our Guests have had a good time.
We hope to welcome you back sometime soon.
Fantastic holiday home
Brilliant holiday home with stunning views over the valley and vine-yards. Everything that you need is provided - so you can pack light! Lorraine and Bob were incredibly quick to address any tiny problems during the stay. Many happy hours spent in the pool which was big enough to swim properly. There is lots to do in the area.
Thank you for your kind words. It was lovely to meet you and we are so glad you enjoyed your stay in Lou Cigallou.
I hope we can look after you again sometime very soon!

Beaches e.g. Valras Plage, Vias, Serignan Plage, Portiragnes and Rochelongue Plage at Cap d'Agde are within around 35 minutes drive by car. There are many other stunning beaches slightly further afield along the Mediterranean coast.
The use of a car is essential. There is very little public transport and taxis are very expensive. We are well served with airports, Beziers being the closest at around 30 mins away (Ryanair). Montpellier is approximately 65 mins (Ryanair, Easyjet and major airlines), Nimes approximately 90 mins (Ryanair) and Perpignan and Carcassone approximately 80mins (Ryanair). Girona is just over the border in Spain and around 2hr 15mins away.
There are a number of towns and places of interest within easy driving distance. Bedarieux (10 mins drive) is our nearest town with supermarkets and restaurants. Lamalou les Bains (15mins) is a spa town of some renown. Pezenas (20 mins) is bustling with its markets and antique shops. Beziers, on the Canal du Midi, (20 mins) is a good centre for varied shopping. Medieval Carcassone, France's second most visited attraction after the Eiffel Tower, is around 1 1/2 hours drive away.
The village has a small local store selling bread, wine and other delicacies. There is a bar and restaurant, the Bel Air, two minutes walk away. A 24 hour petrol station (self service, payment by credit card) is opposite the Bel Air Restaurant. There is a good selection of bars and restaurants plus supermarkets (with cash machines) and all other shopping within 10 mins drive.
There are many opportunities to sample the wonderful local wines with a number of caves in the village itself. A wine tour business operates out of the village and we are able to facilitate access to the full and half day tours. The local Vigneron also provides talks on Faugeres wines. Cycling remains one of France's top sports and many people visit the area to cycle during their holiday. High quality cycle hire is available from a local company, delivery and collection to/from the villa can be arranged free of charge.
There are lots of outdoor activities such as karting, canyoning, canoeing and treetop climbing all within a short drive. There are a number of excellent restaurants in the immediate area and the Bel Air Restaurant and Bar in Faugeres itself.
Montpellier and Bezier are both good local centres for shopping. Faugeres is a 20 minute drive from the lively medieval town of Pezenas, home of Moliere, with its period architecture and a great choice of restaurants, pavement cafes, art galleries, museums, boutiques and a super Saturday market.
The Canal du Midi, listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO is 20 minutes away.
