About Stephen MacPhee
We are a husband and wife team who love living and working in the West Coast Highlands of Scotland. Most weekends we are lucky enough to get out and about walking and discovering new great routes or hidden beaches etc with our young son and finding things to do and see in the general area. Due to this, we are a very good source of information and our guests benefit from this, 'locals' knowledge too! We always want our guests to get the most out of their stay here and even if you have visited the area many times, we will endeavour to point out something new.
Stephen MacPhee purchased this Villa in 1997
Why Stephen MacPhee chose Fort William
When I first realised Whinburn was for sale, it really captured my imagination. I wasn't even looking to buy a house at the time. Someone that I knew happened to casually mention it to me. When I realised what a great opportunity it was, I had to mobilise quickly to make it happen! With it's great location, views and character. I thought it was a lovely attractive historic house and if I didn't acquire it at the time, it may be a very long time before it ever came back on the market again. That was over 16 years ago now and we have no intentions of selling!
What makes this Villa unique
The house is in a great central position for Fort William. We will certainly be one of the most conveniently positioned houses in relation to the town centre. A very short walk away from the main street and a host of shops restaurants & bars. Our guests never have to worry about taxis if heading out for a drink. Set in a lovely elevated site with great views towards the sea and hills beyond. We personally meet our guests and show them round and to pass on as much tips and information as we can. To ensure the highest standards, we also personally clean the cottage ourselves and this is not just left to staff to attend to. One of our biggest testaments is how many regulars that we have each year. It's always lovely to see the same happy faces returning year after year!
100% refund for cancellations more than 60 days before check-in date.
Lovely well equipped cottage with stunning views over the loch
We spent a very wet week in Fort William but none the less enjoyed mountain biking at the Nevis Range and several walks in the rain. A trip to Mallaig on the steam train was great fun, with a fish supper at the end of the line.
The cottage was warm and comfortable and close to the centre of town, handy for restaurants and shops.
Stephen and his wife were perfect hosts, offering advice on walking routes and places of interest to visit.
A great holiday in spite of the weather.

It was well located for our needs and we have previously used this property before. The property was well maintained, equipped, very comfortable and very clean. It also had ample parking. The property owners are very friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend it. It is in walking distance to restaurants, pubs and shops.
Many thanks for taking the time to post this kind review.
It's great to hear that you had another good week here exploring the Highlands Of Scotland and yet again chose Whinburn for your base.
It's always lovely to see returning guests coming back, often year after year and indeed a lot of our weeks are booked out by returning guests similar to yourself which is very positive.
All the best for now and look forward to having you back again next year!
Lovely traditional villa
The villa is as described and very convenient for the town centre as well as being a good base for activities/touring. Warm and cosy during an autumn stay, especially with the stove lit in the evenings (starter basket of logs provided).
Very clean with tea, coffee, wine/chocs on arrival. Good communication with helpful owner who lives behind the villa. Nice views.
Many thanks for your positive review and great to hear that you had a good week in Fort William with Whinburn as your comfortable and cosy central base.
We are always keen for our guests to get as much out of their stay as possible and we are more than happy to help with anything to make this possible.
The best place we've stayed in
We have now stayed at Whinburn for three years for part of our holidays in Scotland, and it is simply the best place we've stayed in. The house is lovely, really well equipped, comfortable and in agreat location, for both Fort William and the Highlands. Stephen and his family are great to deal with, really helpful and welcoming, and it is always a great pleasure to see them. We can really recommend Whinburn, it's great!!
Many thanks for taking the time for for reviewing Whinburn so positively!
It's great to hear that we must be doing something right if so many of our guests like yourselves, keep coming back time and again.
This is exactly what we like to see of course and it's always nice catching up with our regulars and trying to pass on more tips and pointers about the area that they may not have found on their previous visits.
We still find new things ourselves every year when we head out exploring and we are always happy to share what local knowledge we have with our guests, be it their 1st visit or 10th year in a row!
Looking forward to seeing you again next year.
Take care for now.
Stephen & Nikki.
