About the property

Gorgeous converted barns

The three barns are at Stone Cum Ebony, a secluded hamlet between Rye and Tenterden. Two barns sleep four and one barn sleep six and were converted in 2013. Restoring the barns we have aimed for a light, informal and relaxing approach. The style is a mix of modern and old, flooring is oak, coir and painted floors, grey, blues and naturals. The barns, which are heated by our wood chip boiler and use 100% renewable electricity, are part of the Grade II listed farmyard and has amazing views. Each barn has a wood fired stove, stereo, HD TV and wifi. We're in the middle of the countryside here and the views are spectacular, yet its only six miles to Rye or Tenterden, two lovely small towns. Our web site is Go to the holiday cottages tab to look at further photos and to book.

About Kristin Syltevik

We moved to Odiam Farm in 2012 and love it here. We live on the farm - we are farmers and also have a vineyard.

Kristin Syltevik purchased this barn in 2012

Why Kristin Syltevik chose Tenterden

Odiam Farm is on the Isle of Oxney - it is a land locked island which was previously surrounded by the river Rather and the estuary. It is as a result quite remote - while still only six miles from Rye and Tenterden, two gorgeous small towns.

What makes this barn unique

The holiday cottages are a great base for exploring. Visit our vineyard, explore some incredible landscapes, the beach, pretty towns and fantastic food and drink. If you have a moment to stay in we have a new tennis court, a play room with table tennis and more, or sit in the sun and enjoy the view.

Absolute gem!

We stayed here for a weekend in March 2018 and had a brilliant stay. The barn is beautifully kitted out and has everything you need for a comfortable stay. All the things like heating, hot water, amenities all worked easily, and the rooms were all really lovely. There was plenty to do in the local area but we hope to return in the summer time so we can just enjoy the gardens and barn! Really great, thank you for having us!

Exquisite, Beautifu Property. Highly Recommended!

  • 5 of 5

A huge amount of thought and design has gone into this property which combines English and Scandinavian design elements. Not only is it very pretty, but it is also very practical and has everything you could ever need, including coffee, tea, well stocked kitchen, etc. We loved the fact that everything that could be was organic, including the beds! The wonderful Aga wood-burning stove kept us very warm. The location is great and we enjoyed wonderful walks, especially the Royal Military Canal. We also ventured into Rye and had a first-class lunch at the George. The owner couldn't be more helpful and supplied very useful tips about the area. Even in January, staying in the Long Barn was wonderful and we can't wait to return in the summer. We recommend it very highly!

Wonderful escape

  • 5 of 5

We booked The Long Barn for a school half-term mini-break and had a lovely stay.

The location is perfect to explore the area, with Rye and Tenterden within easy reach and Hastings and Tunbridge Wells not much further - with vineyards and National Trust delights in between.

The barn is characterful and comfortable, modern and fresh and lovely and cosy. Of a very high standard and represented good value for money.

We were welcomed with homemade spiced apple cake and apple juice - both absolutely delicious and still meaning to get the cake recipe! The tennis court and games room were an added bonus.

Highly recommend!

Relaxing stay at The Long Barn

  • 5 of 5

After a long journey from the midlands we were delighted with our home for the week in Kent. The Long Barn was exceptionally clean and well appointed in a modern Scandinavian style. Kristin had left us some home made cake and apple juice which was very welcome after our journey. The Barn is situated in rolling countryside and the only noise is the occasional passing tractor and would definitely recommend this for exploring this interesting and peaceful part of England

A haven of peace and quiet

  • 5 of 5

A beautiful and peaceful holiday home in rural Kent. Comfortable and cosy. We really appreciated the home-made cake, apple & pear juice and wine etc ... after an overly long journey. thank you Kristin. Being all on the level it was great for our aged parents. It's close to many places to visit like Sissinghurst Castle, Great Dixter, Smallhythe Place and the Kent and East Sussex Railway to name but a few as well as some good places to eat. Our favourite was The Crown at Stone in Oxney.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for your lovely comments. It was great to have you here! While super quiet and remote you are right -- there is a lot going on around here. For garden enthusiasts Sarah Raven's garden is not far away either, and many head to Dungeness to see Derek Jarman's garden. More ideas to include in the 'what to do' list in the barns! Thanks again. We would love to have you back.

Special interest holidays:

Please visit our vineyard and winery for tastings and a tour.

The barns are nine miles from Camber Sands, a very large sandy beach with sand dunes stretching from East Sussex into Kent.

The barns are 70 miles from Gatwick (about 1.5 hours drive) and 95 miles from Heathrow (about 2.5 hours drive). The Eurotunnel terminal at Folkestone is 38 miles away (60 minutes drive). The barns are very much in the middle of the countryside so a car is essential.

You can walk to the village of Stone. Stone has two pubs and a lovely old church. The two small towns of Tenterden and Rye are very close -- each a six mile (14 minutes) drive away.
