Bluebell Cottage lies in the quiet and secluded village of Great Tew, well known for the legendary Falkland Arms pub and Soho Farmhouse. The village is at the end of a country road within the Great Tew Estate. This means that there is no through traffic and the only vehicles are those of the few residents and their visitors. The cottage was built around 1850 from the local, golden Cotswold stone that is complemented by the beauty that only thatch can provide. Extensively modernised and updated, it now provides a luxurious, cosy hideaway furnished and equipped to a very high standard with full central heating and an open fire to keep you warm on even the coldest night. Uninterrupted views from the front of the cottage looking out across the beautiful Great Tew Estate are totally unique. There is even a wooden bench on the grass over the little lane for anyone that would like to sit and absorb the tranquility of the surroundings. Surprisingly, to the rear of the property is a large garden and private car parking as well as a shed for cyclists to store their bikes.

About Karen Davies
We travelled around the very best parts of the English countryside from top to bottom to find what we believed to be the most beautiful village! We succeeded! We believe that very few places equal The Cotswolds and Great Tew is especially beautiful. We are very pleased that our family and friends love our choice as much as we do. If you need accommodation for more than 5 people, how about looking at our other beautiful holiday home in the idyllic medieval black & white village of Weobley in the heart of rural Herefordshire?
Karen Davies purchased this Cottage in 1991
Why Karen Davies chose Chipping Norton
The cottage is absolutely beautiful! Thick golden cotswold stone walls and a lovely thatched roof .... how could you not love it? Great Tew is an amazing village and a step back in time. Nothing much changes here we are pleased to say! We love the location because it has a quiet, relaxing feel to it but is within easy reach of larger towns should the need ever arise to venture out into the big wide world! Have a pint of local ale at the well renowned Falkland Arms where on some Sundays you will be joined by a live folk band. The only problem you will face at Bluebell Cottage is that you may not want to leave!

Charming cottage set in the beautiful Cotswolds
Bluebell Cottage is a delightful thatched home set in the tranquil village of Great Tew, the countryside around, inspiring.
We enjoyed the nearby walks, exploring the village, the surrounding area and the beautiful church of St Michael & All Angels.
We found it a comfortable, well equipped cottage to use as a base to explore all the surrounding sights, most notably Blenheim Palace and the many spires of Oxford. This is our third break at Bluebell, visiting Oxford, exploring the colleges and grounds, the various museums, and parks. There are many small gems within a short car journey, like Bourton-On-The-Water, well worth exploring the local area to find them.
After a busy day, it was a delight to return and relax in the garden, a real sun trap.
The village pub, the Falkland Arms, is a short distance from the cottage, providing a fine selection of local beers and good food. We particularly enjoyed the hand made pies, made from locally sourced ingredients. It is a popular establishment and suggest that if you are arriving on a Friday looking for food, phone ahead and book a table.
Night time was silent, only the sounds of wood pigeons and owls could be heard, perfect for recovering from the daily walks.
We had a wonderful time in a beautiful place.

The quintessential English cottage
An idyllic English country-side destination. Modern amenities in a bucolic setting! The cottage was everything it was advertised to be. My wife and I and our three young adult children were very happy with the accommodations. Although not specified, the living room couch was a fold-out and was a real god-send. It was nice having the pub next door. The food was OK, but the pub atmosphere was nice. Great Tew is centrally located near many great things...Blenheim Palace, Oxford, Warwick Castle, Stone Henge, Bath...all an easy drive. Shopping close by and lots of great restaurants in neighboring villages. Duck on the Pond and the Boxing Hare are highly recommended. I recommend it Blue Bell Cottage very highly!
So pleased you enjoyed your stay! Great Tew is a very special village. Just for readers of this review, the pub isn’t actually next door! It’s a couple of minutes walk down the lane, which is ideal.
Amazingly Cozy and Inviting Cottsge
While I think I found several good places to stay on VRBO/Home Away, this was a particular favorite. Great Tew is a fantastic little village , full of charm, and scenic in true Cotswold fashion. Bluebell Cottage is idyllic, in this respect, with its thatched roof and Cotswold stone exterior and interior. One morning there was a little bit of rain and simply watching drops dripping from the thatch, looking out an upstairs window, gave me a moment of intense pleasure. Anything one wanted was there. The cottage is only a one minute walk to one of the most scenic pubs one can find: The Falkland Arms. A truly beautiful village and a truly charming cottage, owned by Karen, a personable lady who quickly responded to any question. The unit was also super clean. In short, there are no downsides to Bluebell Cottage.
Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a lovely review of our little piece of paradise. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay and hope to welcome you back in the future.
Every detail was perfect!
We had 5 nights here and found every home comfort, tasteful decor and the most beautiful setting for the charming cottage.
Great village and comfortable cottage
We loved the Great Tew community. Karen was very kind and we appreciated the wine and flowers on arrival.
