Stunning, family friendly, Tuscan farmhouse - spectacular views and private pool

Bedrooms 3
Space 2,690 sq. ft.
Property type farmhouse
Minimum Stay 5 - 7 nights

About the property

Three bedroom, rural farmhouse, sleeps 6/7, all en-suite bathrooms, private pool

'A Small Piece Of Heaven In Tuscany' as quoted by a guest and, of course, we must agree!

Capanno Del Lupo is a beautiful stone farmhouse, recently restored, which stands in 20 acres of hillside that merge into chestnut groves and woodland. It's position high in the Tuscan hills offers amazing views, seclusion and tranquillity and is perfectly located for walking enthusiasts.

The house is set over three levels: The ground floor has a well equipped farmhouse kitchen, a dining room with seating for 6/8 and a small sitting room. All these rooms open up to the front terrace which is a sun trap for most of the day. A stone stairway leads to Il Girasole bedroom and then continues on to the next level which has the main sitting room and La Photinia bedroom. This sitting room is the heart of the house and is full of character with a rustic stone sink and a large stone fireplace with a wood burning stove. There is a TV with DVD player and a large selection of DVD's to view; a wooden staircase leads up to the master bedroom, La Rosa, which is complete with private bathroom.

A pretty garden surrounds the farmhouse and the large private swimming pool is set a safe distance from the house.

The owners live in the annexe to the rear of the property and are available for advice if required.

What makes this farmhouse unique

The best part of being at Capanno Del Lupo is the peace and quiet. It really feels as though you've had that 'stop the world I want to get off' moment! It was this that made us fall in love with the place. The views are a constant source of wonder and never cease to amaze.

Stunning, family friendly, Tuscan farmhouse - spectacular views and private pool
average rating of 4.935484 based on 31 reviews

Beautiful house and pool in stunning location.

  • 5 of 5

We loved our week and didn’t want to leave! The house is beautiful, spacious and comfortable and the surrounding countryside and views are breathtaking. Sue and Johnny are the perfect hosts: generous, friendly and kind but discreet and unobtrusive. We really appreciated the delicious prosecco and Chianti, and the many supplies generously provided. A really special place. Also incredibly well equipped.

We used the house as a great base to visit nearby towns such as Anghiari (an unspoilt revelation) Sansepolcro (the Museo Civico gives a great intro to the work of Piero Della Francesca) Arezzo (his masterpiece cycle of frescoes in San Francesco) Cortona and Città Di Castello (the pinacoteca is worth a visit for the remarkable Renaissance palazzo alone) We ate excellent, inexpensive lunches in all these places and sampled a great deal of ice cream. At the end of each day we would happily return to the house for a swim in the late sunshine and a drink on the terrace admiring the view. Can’t recommend highly enough!

Our first time to Tuscany

  • 5 of 5

Very comfortable, peaceful villa with superb scenery. The hosts were very helpful if we had any queries, or questions about the local area. They also booked restaurants for us at places they recommended and aided our party when a puncture was discovered.

Good facilities with all the usual items needed plus a few more. Plenty of space to find a quiet spot to read or relax.

Something to consider is the road up to the property which is steep and rocky. Try to make sure you have a suitable vehicle, see comment above!

The pool is lovely but a little bit of a trek up to and with only a ladder into it, it was difficult for one of our party to use.

We had very warm weather and the inclusion of a fan in our bedroom was very welcome.

Be aware that this property is quite remote and it will take time to get to any towns. The local area is, however, very picturesque and well worth exploring. The Tuscan people were very understanding of our poor Italian, helpful and friendly.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the 5* review. In response to a couple of your points, we must reiterate that it is stated, and shown in the photographs, that the pool is set higher from the house to enjoy the wonderful view and privacy that we can offer. It is also stated that this property is remote and accessed by a typical Italian white road and this is all part of the experience. We were only too happy to get the tyre repaired for you and don't forget, you won the award for the first guests to get a puncture here :)

AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME!!!! Review is a 5 Star ++++++

  • 5 of 5

This is an exceptional rental. We were a party of 4 and used all three bedrooms. All in our group found the home comfortable and wished we had more time to just hangout and enjoy the property. The property was actually better than the pics from the website. The views amazing! The pool is located a short distance from the home and strategically located on a elevated platform which provides for lots of sun. We found the property to be immaculate and well maintained. The home had a comfortable and homey feel but very modern and functional. The owners Sue and John went above and beyond in accommodating us. We were unable to rent a car the first evening we arrived and they graciously drove us the 40 minute ride to the car rental office the next day. Since our visit was early fall (mid October) with cool temperatures, the owners offered to make a fire in the 2 wood burning units each evening. It was soooooo nice to come home to warm fires after sightseeing all day in Florence and local areas in the Tuscan hillsides near the property. I cannot say enough about the John and Sue's helpfulness and willingness to provide exceptional service. They were discreet but always near to assist with any needs or suggestions regarding local restaurants, touring nearby and in Florence etc. You couldn't make a better choice than this property whether you just want to relax and enjoy the beautiful surrounding views on the property or you just need a comfortable home base during your visit to surrounding areas. We strongly recommend this property and we will definitely return! Thanks so much John and Sue, you really know how to make folks feel welcome.

Superb hillside retreat , picturesque & peacefulne

  • 5 of 5

Having left home at 04.00 we finally arrived at Caprese Michelangelo where we met John and Sue.

From this moment on they were most helpful yet not intrusive even though they were only Iin the adjoining property.

We climbed up the stony track in the 2 hired cars arriving at the most idyllic panoramic villa set up in the hillside. There was not a building in sight!

Sue produced some bubbly for us as we had just celebrated our ruby wedding anniversary and this was our family celebration!

During the week we visited Sienna, a hilly town with loads of history ; Arezzo with its' stunning murals; Florence for the famous market and places of interest; anghiari for lunch in a most beautiful hilltop restaurant.

Tuscany is a most picturesque place for a holiday!

We also made pizzas with Sue and John on their wood burning stove that was great fun!

We recommend this villa where the hosts, John &Sue were so welcoming! Many thanks!

Lovely home poor road

  • 3 of 5

This is a lovely home but the road is very poor. A major concern for anyone who would rent this property. It put a major damper on out trip. If you did not have 4 wheel drive(which we did not have) and even @ that the road takes away from the lovely farm house. Too bad but I can not suggest this property to others.

Owner's Response: Sorry you felt like that Joseph however a people carrier with six large adults was asking a lot for a typical Italian white road and it didn't seem to stop your daily excursions so we are pleased you still managed to visit and enjoy all the beautiful places in the area. All our other guests have managed to overcome the bumps without complaint or difficulty, however we understand the road may be a bit challenging for New Yorkers, especially after enjoying days out wine tasting. It's a shame you concentrated this review on one negative aspect, we know how delighted you were with our recommendation of the local oil mill though it's very telling that you also complained about a nearby restaurant - no one ever has complaints for that restaurant! We are glad that all our previous guests are more than happy to recommend our house in its lovely private setting and have given us positive 5* reviews so we will take encouragement from that.

A little piece of paradise

  • 5 of 5

If you want to rent a little chunk of paradise on a Tuscan hillside, then this is your place !!!! An absolutely beautiful property, impeccably maintained by John and Sue who are the perfect owners. Discretely absent and very conscious of guest privacy, but always there to help with great advise on restaurants and local gems.

The property has stunning views,a beautiful pool ,and is equipped with anything you might ever want to enjoy a relaxing vacation.

As a bonus you get to inherit Sophie for the week.Shes the coolest, cutest dog you'd ever get to meet.

Highly recommended for Us Guests to get a true taste of Tuscany

This 300-year-old farmhouse house nestles high in the hills, mid-way between the village of Caprese Michelangelo and the medieval town of Anghiari. It is set in 20 acres of natural Tuscan countryside and offers total privacy and seclusion, along with spectacular scenery. These stunning views are ideal for painting and photography. The house is perfectly situated for that relaxing, 'away from it all' escape yet is within easy reach of the historical and cultural delights that La Verna, Poppi, Arezzo, Cortona, Gubbio, Assisi, Perugia, Siena and Florence all have to offer. Day trips to Rome are also possible. The farmhouse is close to a marked route so is ideally situated for walking the surrounding hills. Also in walking distance is a restaurant offering local produce and the small hamlet of Manzi which has a grocery store selling fresh pasta and home-made cakes. Oil and Wine tastings are available at the local oil mill. Anghiari and Sansepolcro hold markets every week and both towns have a selection of wonderful restaurants. Cookery classes, wine tours, treks in the Tuscan hills and horse riding can be arranged on request. Enjoy the many local festivals that take place throughout the year.
