About Claire Lees

HI, I'm Claire and manage Admirals Rest holiday cottage in Deal as well as a holiday rental in Sandwich. I moved with with my family to the East Kent coast five years ago and fell in love with the area. We live in Great Mongeham, just behind Deal so I can reach the cottages easily should anything thing need sorting. We hope to see you soon.

Claire Lees purchased this cottage in 2013

Why Claire Lees chose Kent

Deal is a fantastic location for a holiday or short break throughout the seasons with its location by the sea and beautiful Kent countryside. Deal is a quaint, unspoilt British seaside town with a maritime history and with Nelson a frequent visitor. The cottage was bought due to its sought after location in Deal's historic Conservation Area. The Conservation Area is an interesting mix of Georgian fisherman cottages and Victorian cottages all painted in varying pastel shades. The cottage is on Nelson Street, a quiet street set back from Deal's interesting High Street with its independent shops, coffee shops, antique & home interior shops and local markets. The beach is only a two to three minute walk away. The residents of Deal are welcoming and you will be met by friendly smiles.

We offer free Wi-Fi and a TV with DVD player that shows 3D films. There is a Bosch Tassimo coffee machine. The IKEA integrated kitchen is recently fitted with fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. There is also a toaster and microwave. The master bed has a luxury topper for added comfort and the duvets are all a mix of goose feather and down as well as the pillows. The rooms at the front of the house are shuttered on the inside. There are even some synthetic pillows should that be your preference. If you enjoy outside space, there is a small paved courtyard with flowerpots perfect for relaxing with a coffee over the papers. There is also a Weber bbq and with a fishmongers just around the corner you could be bbqing some delicious locally sourced fish.

What makes this cottage unique

The cottage is in a quiet location so you can be guaranteed a relaxing stay and being so close to the centre of Deal itself you will really get a taste of coastal living..When you fancy eating out or popping out for a coffee there is a great choice of independent restaurants, coffee shops and pubs on your doorstep with new eateries all the time. Try the Deal Hoy, a maritime pub with great ales just along the road and serving the most delicious pizzas cooked outside in the wood fired oven. There are amenities including large supermarkets a two minute walk away. We love having kids & scooters for under fives. Deal is a short drive from Dover port so Deal can be easily reached by visitors from Europe.Pet-friendly too.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you Claire for a lovely stay in your beautiful cottage. I've been coming to Deal on day trips for a couple of years and so nice to stay here! So lucky with the weather...my parents and I were very relaxed. The cottage is comfortable and spotlessly clean and the courtyard a gorgeous sunny spot. I'll be back and already recommended to everyone I know in London! Thanks

charming coastal cottage

  • 4 of 5

The cottage is ideally located close to shops and the seafront. Inside is very tastefully decorated and very clean with nice personal touches from the owner. It is also more spacious than it looks from the outside.Although there are parking restrictions outside the cottage, we did not experience any problems finding a place to move the car to. Deal itself is a lovely little town with lots of places to eat or stop for coffee.Happy to recommend the cottage for a quiet stay by the sea.

Charming cottage in Deal Kent...

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this lovely cottage whilst moving house from Deal to Scotland. We had stayed in Claire's cute little cottage in Sandwich last summer and loved it, so when I saw that she owned this holiday cottage it was a no brainer. Claire is wonderful at getting the balance right in self catering. The only complaint I have and it's minor, is the sofa in the lounge is not comfortable. Most folks will be spending their time exploring Deal to notice it, but I did. It's the kind of sofa that uni students have. Other than that, Claire is the accomplished stylist. The decor is beachy cottage and it is comfortable. Stay here you won't be disappointed!

We didn't want to leave!! It was also great that we could have our little dog with us,who was very happy there. The lady who owns the house was a pleasure to deal with and truly gave us a great time. We'll be staying again for sure,a real home from home.

Four Lady Reunion Weekend.

  • 4 of 5

Great communications with the owner followed by a weekend stay at a truly lovely cottage. Well equipped, beautifully furnished and such attention to detail. The linen and towels were of a good quality and the beds very clean and comfortable. Lots of essentials like salt, pepper, washing-up liquid, hand soap all in situ. Another nice touch was tea, coffee, sugar and fresh milk in the fridge with the added joy was a welcome bottle of red wine. The location of the cottage is perfect and there is ample parking nearby. We would definitely visit Deal again and would most certainly book this cottage a second time.

Delightful Admiral found in Deal

  • 5 of 5

Bijou property with all comforts. Excellent 'sea-side shabby-chic' interior - warm and welcoming. As oldsters we would have welcomed basic instructions on using DVD, dishwasher and w/machine - we were fairly hit and miss with the latter two as all those fangled European symbols don't work for us.... Sitting room might need a review..... different pictures on the walls? Maybe seating needs an overview? (But, hey, this isn't some 5* star international hotel - it's a lovely holiday let). All in all can only praise Admiral's Reach, & Deal itself. So much going on in the area. Only downside in Isle of Thanet is that the roads are complete Pants.

Owner's Response: Thanks for taking the time to leave a review and so pleased you liked the cottage and Deal. For anyone not familiar with Ikea hobs, oven, dishwashers and washing machines then all the manuals are to hand in the kitchen...you can also call me and I'm more than happy to pop in to show you how to work anything. The livng room pics are in nautical theme but I guess not too everyone's taste! My tip if you're driving to Ramsgate/Margate/Broadstairs (Isle of Thanet) is too avoid driving past Westwood Cross the main shopping area.

Car: not necessary

Deal's pebble beach is a short walk away - you will pass picturesque fisherman cottages to reach the Georgian seafront with its 1950s pier. The beach stretches east to Sandwich Bay and west to Kingsdown and is perfect for beach walks, beach combing & swimming on hot days. Picturesque fishing boats rest at the top of the shingle beach. Within a 1 mile stretch there are two castles built by Henry VIII. A cycle/footpath runs along the top which is great for children to cycle, scoot and roller boot.

Dover cross-channel ferry port is a fifteen minute drive away & the Eurotunnel terminal at Folkestone is a thirty-five minute drive. The nearest international airport is Gatwick, a 1 hour and 40 minute drive. Manston Airport is the closest regional airport with KLM flights in and out of Amsterdam just 25 minutes by car. Deal takes approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes to reach driving from London. The high speed rail link lasts 1 hour and 20 minutes from St Pancras London.

There is so much to do in the area. A car is not required with local attractions reached on foot or by local transport/taxi. There are castles to be explored, gardens to be enjoyed, cycle and walking routes aplenty on the doorstep & within a ten mile radius. There is sea and lake fishing and a championship golf course in Deal. Middle Street, the Conservation area and the north end of the High Street with its independent shops is an interesting area to explore and is at the heart of Deal.

Further Details:

Families are welcome at Admirals Rest. You do not need a car to keep the children amused as there are plenty of fun activities in Deal. The beach is an obvious attraction - paddling, swimming, collecting interesting pebbles and prawning on Kingsdown beach at low tide. Why not scoot along the pier or follow the cycle path past two castles with cannons. All free to do. The best kiddy refreshments have to be at at the Beach Parlour for ice-cream and milkshakes on the pier. There is also a Leisure Pool with wave machine, paddling pool and playgrounds. There are also two micro scooters and 2 bikes suitable for under 5s available on request.
