About Poppy Baggott

The Tower Lodge is part of a family livestock farm run by Sue and Piet Gilroy. The farm is almost self sufficient, with winter fodder grown on site to feed a herd of beef breeding cows and black faced sheep, and fruit and vegetables are grown by Sue in a large walled garden.

If you come to stay in the Tower and are interested in looking round the farm, purchasing free range eggs, or fruit and vegetables (in season), then please contact Sue and Piet on 01556640202; similarly if you are keen to try some loch fishing either from the bank or by boat, this can be organised by prior arrangement by calling the above number.

Absolutely amazing staying in such unique property!

  • 5 of 5

Just what we needed at the end of our 7 week stay in Scotland. 10 days relaxing, getting fitter by walking up and down the stairs! The owners were incredibly friendly and welcoming. Plenty of walks and places to explore locally.

A quirky, and very comfortable place to stay with great views across Auchencairn Bay

  • 5 of 5

This unusual house reminded me of Buchan: there are 39 steps from kitchen to bathroom. It is a well-appointed house with a really cosy living room when the log burner is fired up. Sue and Piet, and Poppy, were very welcoming and the walled garden at the main house is fascinating.

Walks along the road to the village or to Balcary Point/Bay are lovely and there is much to explore. Just sitting on the rocks on the shore near the house was great when weather permitted, we were lucky it permitted at all in early April. We needed chill time and got it (actually in both senses of the word),

All in all, a comfortable, calm, cosy, characterful, contented castley (?) cottage

Quirky tower with a difference

  • 4 of 5

The quirky tower was over 4 floors with brilliant views from the top 3 floors. Very cosy stay and if you're expecting modern this is not for you. We loved the quirky and fashioned but clean turret. The owners lived nearby and provided horses to ride at a very reasonable price. Hestan island was so nice to visit and interesting guided tour by the tower owner on horseback. Great area for walking but no local pub in Auchencairn. A personal thank you sent to the owner for her making our daughters visit so worthwhile with the personal horse riding guide over sand, land and road. An experience she never has had after riding for 10 years we will be back. Only reason giving a 4 and not a 5 was the water pressure on the electric shower was a bit of a let down.

Lovely location. Everything you need for a chilled self catering holiday.

  • 4 of 5

First impressions absolutely loved it!

There is a problem with damp throughout the property but probably due to age of building.

Garden perfect for our little dog, very secure.

The bay has stunning views and there are some really good walks in the area.

We wanted somewhere to chill out and this was perfect.

Thank you.
