Walnut Farmhouse is located on private farmland with its own enclosed garden and driveway. The site has its own 1.5 mile private dog walk, Sea Palling is 5 minute's drive away where you can find a beautiful long sandy beach, fish & chips, cafes, local shop/post office and small amusements to keep the children entertained and a choice of 2 local pubs. Only half an hour away are Great Yarmouth with its many attractions and the historic and popular city of Norwich which has much to offer everybody. The house is on the edge of the Broads National Park and there are many places to hire a boat to cruise for the day or just a few hours, the nearest being only 10 minutes away at Hickling Broad. The beach along this coastline is sandy and dog friendly, easy to walk and mostly very quiet. The whole area is ideal for bird and seal watching, cycling, dog walking and family days out. The house is very spacious and cool in the summer and the central heating ensures it is cosy in colder months.

Why Rachel McLeod chose Norwich

We knew the house would be popular with famillies and dogs as it has an unbeatable location in a quiet, rural part of Norfolk, down a private track and minutes away from the beach. All the beaches along this coastline are sandy and dog friendly and easily accessible. We particularly love the seal colonies which breed along the coast and have spent many happy hours during the winter months watching the seal mothers with their pups.

Like me, they are 'incomers' to this part of Norfolk and, like me, would never live anywhere else! A high proportion of our guests come here, fall in love with the area and move up. Think that says it all!

What makes this farmhouse unique

When you stay at Walnut Farm house you will be treated to peace and quiet and space and light. In the winter the house manages to be cosy too with an efficient radiator system and electric wood burner in the lounge (quicker and easier than the real thing!)

There is a fabulous 1.5 mile long dog walk from the door through the private farmland and alongside a very quiet part of the river, part of the Broads network.

Access to the beaches is easy and there are plenty of local villages to visit, many of which have good, dog friendly pubs. If you want days out Great Yarmouth, Norwich, Cromer and Sea Palling are all within a very easy drive and if you want to go a bit further afield the popular parts of North Norfolk are an easy day trip too.

Seal watching, Broads boating, easy walking and cycling and relaxing are all on offer

Notes on accommodation: Walnut Farmhouse is an excellent property for all year round holidays, the garden is great in the warmer months and the electric log burner in the lounge is lovely in the winter months, backed up with modern central heating throughout the house. There is plenty of room for all members of the family to have their own space with the kitchen, dining room and garden great for all coming together to make some perfect holiday moments to remember. There is a private gated driveway at the front of the house able to accommodate 4 cars and 2 separate lawn areas with garden furniture and BBQ provided. The house is very suitable and welcoming for dogs with the majority of the downstairs being hard floors and rugs and offering plenty of easy living space. Outside: Large secure private garden with seating and BBQ, mostly laid to lawn and gravel with mature and attractive planting. The boundary is enclosed by a mix of dog proof evergreen hedge and a low wall topped with high decorative railings. Two high walled yards are adjacent to the house, one with access through a side door to the garden. Beyond the boundary of the garden is a small touring caravan site (maximum 20 pitches). Utility Room: A very useful room with washing machine, tumble dryer and plenty of room for drying clothes or wet dogs, keeping dog beds, outdoor clothing and games. The room opens up on two sides into small yards, one with access to the garden. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and bed linen will be provided but we ask guests to bring their own beach towels. Other: There is a sun room which opens up to the garden and a large family room with a sofa bed. The house is large enough for everyone to have their own space and makes a great holiday location for large families or friends who want to relax together.

Great hosts with a very useful welcome pack.

Excellent accommodation. Ideal for a large family or 2/3 families to share.

Very spacious so there is no reason to feel on top of each other and everyone can enjoy their own space.

Fabulous location and an ideal base from which to explore the many wonderful Norfolk landmarks & places of entertainment.

Excellent dog friendly pubs & restaurants close to the house.

Lovely house, plenty of room, warm and cosy in December. Great welcome gift. Rooms clean and homely. Toiletries in each bathroom, plus coffee, tea . milk and sugar. ready for a cuppa when you arrive. Very thoughtful owners, dogs well catered for.

Large farmhouse great for kids and dogs.

The farmhouse is very large with plenty of space and lots of rooms so not to get on top of each other. The children and the dog loved it. It is very near to the beach. Large gardens.

Perfect for a large family party

The property is spacious, clean, well equipped and comfortable. The garden is dog proof once the gate is shut, and also suitable for toddlers. We enjoyed our holiday with plenty to do, walking and on the superb beach.

Special interest holidays:

No special interest holiday provided but the area is rich in wildlife and bird spotting opportunities, fantastic for photography and painting and the close proximity to both the sea and the Broads means that there plenty of locally available courses for sailing plus kayaking, fishing, boat hire and jet ski hire.


The 2 nearest beaches to Walnut Farmhouse are located within a 5 minute car drive. Sea Palling is a blue flag beach with cafés, shop, toilets and amusements and lifeguards in attendance during peak season. In the other direction is Horsey Gap where there is a car park behind the sand dunes. Both are sandy, easy walking, very quiet and dog friendly. A short walk along the beach and you might well meet the local seals and during the winter months their pups. This beach is a top breeding colony and people come from miles around to view the seal pups in the winter.


A car is pretty much essential for getting around in this part of rural Norfolk. There is a bus service to Sea Palling from Norwich. The nearest train stations are at Great Yarmouth and North Walsham. Local taxis operate.


Local amenities are 5 minutes drive to Sea Palling where you will find village shop and post office, cafes and fish and chip shop and 2 pubs that both serve food. Nearest supermarket is 6 miles away in Stalham. Seaside resort of Great Yarmouth is 14 miles and Cromer is 23 miles away. Norwich City Centre is 23 miles away with all of its museums, shops and famous Castle. The Broads National Parks starts just a few miles from the house at Hickling and the small towns of Stalham is 5 miles away.

Further Details:

Walnut Farmhouse has an excellent location for exploring the best of the Norfolk Coast and Broads or a trip into the centre of Norwich. There are many local National Trust properties that you can visit. Great Yarmouth has something for everyone. The location is very peaceful but not isolated. Within a couple of miles there are cafes, pubs, a farm shop, very good butcher and just a little further afield you will find an excellent fishmonger at Happisburgh, a local food shops - Truly Local - which counts Prince Charles as a customer, more dog friendly pubs, bicycle hire, banks, takeaways, chemists, pet shops and more. The location is ideal for everything that you could want from a family holiday or a get together with friends. The choice is yours of how active or relaxing your holiday is.

There are facilities for fishing on the Waxham Cut (License required) or sea fishing trips can be booked locally.

Anyone interested in wildlife (watching or photography) will be spoilt for choice here. The coastline is used by colonies of seals for breeding and in the winter months 100s can be seen together with their pups. The flat marsh land and waterways provide a habitat for a huge amount of wildlife including Marsh Harriers and there are deer - Muntjac and Chinese Water Deer - in the area too.
