About Caspian Flynn
Caspian was brought up in Germany, Lulu was brought up in Cyprus and Jeffery (our chocolate labrador) is a Welsh boy and we all found a most beautiful home in the South of France. Caspian is a Chartered Engineer by background and has worked for corporations in Germany and England. Lulu is a biologist and a qualified teacher as a second career. She also worked for a large pharmaceutical company in England for many years. We have many friends here locally and also internationally and enjoy their company whenever we can.
Why Caspian Flynn chose Vélines
The fact that we already had many local friends around Bordeaux was an important factor for us to choose the vineyards of Bordeaux as our home. This combined with romantic vineyards, pretty villages, enjoyable towns, easy airport connections and the friendly locals made the task of choosing a home in this region simple for us.
What makes this Cottage unique
Kiwi Cottage nestles in the grounds of a completely renovated Maison de Maitre (Manor House) dating back to the 16th century and giving one a sense of history, the beautifully lit pool area at night and the well laid out park make La Gorce a memorable experience. Its architecture oozes the charm one would expect of such an historic property. Completely rural but only 3 minutes from all amenities.

The Kiwi Cottage is a magical place in a beautiful setting. Perfect for our week of wine tastings on both the Right and Left Banks. The cottage has all the comforts of home, surrounded by the beautiful French country side. The hosts are wonderful and communicated with us perfectly for the rental, arrival, and during our stay. Our visit was too short and we look forward to returning!
wonderful stay at Kiwi cottage
What a lovely property in a beautiful part of the world. We were able to relax, drive to everything we wanted to visit, eat out at wonderful restaurants or make our own meals from what we bought at the many farmer's markets.
Lulu and Caspian couldn't be nicer. They allowed us our privacy, yet were available when we needed.
Just as the title says - idyllic - if you designed your perfect holiday then this is what you would end up with !
Our Dordogne dream vacation
We enjoyed a perfect 8-night stay in the Kiwi Cottage. It was our first visit to the Dordogne River area. We loved the quiet, rural nature with lush vineyards and blooming fields of sunflowers. We are a couple, so the 1-bedroom cottage with the comfy king bed was perfect for our needs. The cottage is modest, but nice, clean, and well-maintained. With the bountiful local markets (such as in Ste. Foy), we were very happy to cook in a couple of nights and eat breakfast 'at home' – the kitchen was suitably equipped.
It was a fairly hot time during our visit, so we really enjoyed the pool –beautiful, pristine, and perfect for lap swimming and general cooling off, and lots of lounges for sunbathing. (There is a covered outdoor gas barbecue grill by the pool, however we did not take advantage of this.) We especially enjoyed night swims with the moonlight. The cottage's air-conditioning was necessary and very much appreciated.
Although seemingly quite rural, the cottage is just slightly over an hour from the Bordeaux airport, and perfectly situated for day trips to numerous chateaux, the vineyards of St. Emilion, beautiful medieval villages, such as Sarlat la Caneda, and canoeing on the Dordogne.
As others have noted, Caspian and Lulu are very gracious and fun hosts, and we now consider them great friends. Their recommendations for places to visit, restaurants, etc. were most helpful and generous. We loved their insights and conversations so much...we look forward to connecting again soon.
