Overview

About the property

Apartment in Kinghorn, Nr. Burntisland, Fife, Scotland

Kinghorn Town Hall is a beautiful self-catering apartment located in Kinghorn, The Kingdom of Fife. The apartment has a beautiful spacious open plan living/dining area with comfortable seating, Smart TV, DVD player, selection of books, DVDs and board games. The dining table seats 6 people, although there are a couple of extra seats if having guests visit. Just off the dining area, there is a separate fully equipped kitchen. This is a comfortable size if you are cooking or baking, and have all the equipment you should require. An inventory list is available in advance if you would like to double check.

There are three bedrooms in the property. A twin room; with two single beds, Queen-sized double bedroom and a ¾ / small double bedroom with an ensuite. For the ¾ / small double bed – we recommend this for one adult or two children. Within the ensuite there is a shower, sink and toilet. The main bathroom is also located on the bedroom floor which has a sink, toilet and shower over a bath.

The apartment is located on the first and second floor of the property. To access the apartment there are several stairs to reach the ground floor. The ground floor is previously the old jail, which is now one of the offices for Fife Historic Buildings Trust, although mainly unused, our team sometimes uses the meeting room also on the ground floor. There is a separate locked door to access the apartment within the ground floor hallway. Within the stairwell there is a singular toilet and sink. Up two flights of stairs there is the entrance into the living/dining room. If you continue up the stairs to the second floor, you will find the three bedrooms and family bathroom. The washing machine and tumble dryer are also on the second floor.

From the second floor hallway to the kitchen, there is also a hidden spiral staircase that can be used. The apartment has been sympathetically restored, retaining many period features. The rooms are furnished in keeping with the history of the building, while providing all the modern amenities you would expect.

The apartment is fantastic for families and friends to gather and relax, enjoying time together in the large main room or taking in some of the beautiful Fife Coast.

Guests can access a small fully enclosed private garden, the access is located on North Overgate at the side of the property. There is a table and chairs in the garden as well as access to a small bbq in summer (coal not supplied).

Built in the Tudor Gothic style, this impressive castellated stone structure enjoys glimpses out across the Firth of Forth. The Town Hall was constructed in 1826, replacing an earlier medieval building which was hit and seriously damaged by lightning. Part of the original building is thought to date back to the 12th century. Latterly it was used to provide the debating chamber, offices and prison cells for the Burgh Council. The new building was designed by the architect Thomas Hamilton (1784-1858) and was used for Council functions for almost 150 years but fell into disrepair in the 1980s. It was restored in 2009.

Why Beth Bell chose Kinghorn

Some guests have called it a little private castle, it is such a unique property with original features, which somehow makes you feel special the moment you step in. Kinghorn Town Hall is the ideal central location for staying local or traveling further afield. Whether you want to visit Edinburgh for the many festivals, shops or restaurants or eat local and explore the independent shops in Kinghorn and Fife.

What makes this apartment unique

Because this historic property has been restored in keeping with the history, it is a fascinating apartment to stay in. Plenty of room, however still remaining cosy and intimate. There is Gas Central Heating throughout the property, which heats the apartment well. Kinghorn Town Hall is positioned well for access around Fife as well as close to Edinburgh, without needing to be in the centre of the city.

Guestbook comments from the owner

''Had the pleasure of staying at Kinghorn Town hall for 3 nights. This is such an amazing experience and if you are in or around the area I highly recommend! We loved character of this place and it's such a nice change to staying in hotels. Everything we needed was supplied for. This will be certainly be our first choice on any returns to the area. Our stay was made all that sweeter knowing that the fees paid were going towards the upkeep of an important historical building known and loved by many in Kinghorn. Not to be missed!''

Spectacular!

We had a wonderful time at Kinghorn Town Hall. We were pleasantly surprised by the spaciousness of this property. We kept opening doors and finding one more room.

I would recommend this home to anyone wanting to visit the area.

I would definitely come back to this rental.

Thank you for a great time and your great hospitality.

Elisabeth and Tom U.S.A.

A large but comfortable , well stocked apartment

  • 5 of 5

The children’s first impressions were “wow”. The apartment was comfortable and had everything you could need and more. It managed to be cozy and grand at the same time. There is lots to do nearby. The beach is 5 minutes away and is lovely and we can thoroughly recommend the local chip shop and The Ship across the road for fantastic food.

Unique Property!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay in Kinghorn. Amazed at how big this property was - it certainly had character! It wasn't like anything we were expecting, but due to it's uniqueness, it's a place that our family will never forget! Loved the town - ate at both The Ship and Harbor View restaurants (wonderful people at both), took the train into Edinburgh - all great experiences! Appreciated all of the communication and directions provided by the owner - everything went very smoothly. Would love to get back there someday!

ok stay

i dont like leaving bad feedback for anyone this is an honest opinion on arrival cutlery was not at all clean cups had black dust inside , apart from this the apartment was very clean indeed, the master bed was very uncomfortable but to be honest i still slept well, the lounge gorgeous and comfy, two single beds very comfy, small double not so comfy, this next moan was my own fault and my personal findings . the location was very disappointing like i said for me and i should have checked the surrounding area apart from the beach there is nothing to do in the immediate area , a first trip to Edinburgh was soured by my daughters bag with driving license ,credit card student card , she had just bought a £100 yearly bus pass, but most saddening is the course notes that were inside. Now the really good news , the chippy almost facing , the fish is lovely . hope this review helps and like i said this is only my view, sorry if i have upset anyone.

Car: recommended

Kinghorn is a small town situated on the east coast in the Kingdom of Fife. The town benefits from a lovely quiet, sheltered beach only a few minutes’ walk from the apartment. At the other end of the town is Pettycur Bay - a long, wide stretch of golden sand which is excellent for walks and outdoor activities. Within the town there are several shops on the high street, which is again just a few minutes away. These include a baker, butcher, a Co-op supermarket, post office and chemist. There are also a number of pubs in Kinghorn. The Ship Inn opposite the Town Hall serves top quality food, and there is also a ‘cupcake café’ on the high street.

The Harbour View, has a beautiful café/restaurant upstairs with beautiful views across the forth. Downstairs there is also a wonderful pub, serving various beers, gins and cocktails, they also have an area to sit outside and relax in the sun as you take in the fantastic view.

From Pettycur Beach you can walk across to Burntisland when the tide is out.

There are plenty of activities to entertain families, whatever the weather, with play parks, a loch and ecology centre, indoor leisure facilities, and Kirkcaldy museum and art gallery all close by.

Travel:

Kinghorn railway station is only a few minutes’ walk away and provides easy rail access to Edinburgh and to the north.

Kinghorn is 24 miles from Edinburgh and easily reached by road. There are several car hire companies at Edinburgh airport. There is plenty of space for parking on the street outside Kinghorn Town Hall.

Distances:

The nearest town, Kirkcaldy is 4 miles away and can be reached by train, car or bus.

Edinburgh - 24 miles

St. Andrews - 20 miles

Dundee - 35 miles

Further Details:

For larger supermarkets and a variety of shops you can visit Kirkcaldy or Dunfermline.

The beautiful fishing villages of the East Neuk of Fife such as Crail, Anstruther, Pittenweem, St Monans and Elie are easily reached by car, as are the historic towns of Dunfermline and Kirkcaldy.

Kinghorn has its own railway station with a regular service that takes you across the famous Forth Bridge, straight into the heart of Edinburgh where you can visit the famous Castle, Edinburgh Zoo, Sir Walter Scott's Monument, the Scottish Parliament Buildings, the newly refurbished National Museum of Scotland or in the summer, take in a show at the famous Edinburgh Festival or military Tattoo. There is high-street and designer shopping on Princes Street and George Street, or you can enjoy the many bars, cafes and restaurants before returning by train to put your feet up in your ‘coastal retreat’!

Kinghorn is a great base for exploring the many locations in Fife and beyond. If you are a fan of the drama series 'Outlander', some of the scenes have been filmed in Fife including at: Aberdour Castle, Falkland, Dysart Harbour and Balgonie Castle, which are only a short car journey away.
