About Caroline Tolfree
We have lived in The Manor House, St James Street, Shaftesbury since 2003. I am a nurse working both in a private hospital and a private Medical and laser clinic. I have got three grown up children who return frequently, such is their love of the area and all it has to offer. Hopeless and Pig are our 2 yellow Labradors who are very much part of the family !
Caroline Tolfree purchased this Cottage in 2003
Why Caroline Tolfree chose Shaftesbury
The beauty of our property is its age and character and its prime location at the foot of the famous Gold Hill in Shaftesbury. Our house was built in 1604 and The Music Room was the original Coach House for The Manor House. The Music room was converted in the Spring of 2013 to a luxury holiday let for 2 people or a couple with a baby. The Music room enjoys close proximity to the Saxon town of Shaftesbury and yet within 5 minutes walk to the beautiful rolling countryside of the Blackmore Vale.
What makes this Cottage unique
The Music Room has been fitted to a very high standard and benefits from being a 5 minute walk to the local pub. From there it is a short but steep walk up the famous Gold Hill, renowned for the Hovis advert . This is the most beautiful street ...... a step back in time . Once you have reached the top of Gold Hill you are in the centre of this Anglo Saxon town. Shaftesbury is steeped in history and tradition and is one of the oldest and highest towns in England and it dominates what Hardy called the 'engirdled and secluded Blackmore Vale'. At the top of Gold Hill you must sit back and enjoy the stunning views whilst tasting the fabulous fayre on offer at The Salt Cellar Cafe. Shaftesbury and the surrounding area has so much to offer as listed and described later.
Quiet clean, great welcome
Great place to stay, especially with the dog, as the courtyard was enclosed and safe, and a really handy walk across fields nearby. Lovely old town centre only a short walk away. Very comfortable stay thank you
Hidden Gem Of Shaftsbury
Booked this self catering converted building as we went to the Dorset Steam Rally. What a nice little suprise it was, and more to the point it was dog friendly.
We stayed the weekend, facilities were great, great nights sleep provided by a wonderful bed. Was able to park out front of the property and was a very quite location. With a 10 to 15 minute stroll you were in the town center.....Even up the famous Hovis advert, Gold Hill
Would rebook this when going down that way again.
Only down side, no wardrobes..... but then no room as bedroom was in the attic.... didn't bother either of us.
Lovely. Spotlessly clean and perfectly situated
Really comfy bed, lovely power shower and a little patio to sit out on. Shaftesbury is on a big hill, so an uphill walk from the cottage to the town, but boy are the views worth it! We visited Compton Acres, which is a simply wonderful garden. We went to Sherbourne and walked the pretty streets. We did walks round Shaftesbury and relaxed in the cosy lounge in the evenings. There was everything we needed in the kitchen and we relaxed and slept really well in the big comfy bed. Highly recommend!
Excellent location and beautifully appointed!
The cottage is located at the western end of Shaftesbury, about 10 minutes walk into the town centre. The area is very quiet and peaceful. The cottage itself is a delight. Comfy bed and high standard of furnishings. There is a nice patio area for dining "al fresco" in the Summer.
What a beautiful place to stay. Very clean and such a very special venue. Caroline is very friendly and made sure our stay was perfect. Can't recommend enough. Would definitely stay again.
A great place to use as a base and visit beautiful Dorset!
Lovely well situated property!
