The Old Schoolhouse is located on the side of Loch Linnhe between Ballachulish and Kentallen.It has stunning views over the loch towards the mountains of Ardgour.There is a loch side cycle path across the road providing easy walking and cycling with great views.
The house is excellently positioned for travel in all directions-east to Glencoe and Glen Etive west to Ardnamurchan,south to Oban and north to Fort William,Glenfinnan and beyond.
The unique lounge was once a schoolroom.It's high ceiling and double,west facing windows make it spacious and bright.Storage heaters and a wood burning stove make it cosy year round.
The kitchen is fully equipped.The dishwasher and ample crockery make it easy to cater for family meals.A variety of cafés and restaurants nearby,some within walking distance,make eating out an easy option.
There are three bedrooms-double,twin and bunk
There are a variety of guide books and maps in the house to help you discover and enjoy the area.For quieter days there is a large is enclosed garden,TV,dvds,toys and games.
All in all a great base for exploring or relaxing in a fabulous area!
We live and work in Edinburgh but have always loved the Scottish Highlands. We spent so many weekends and holidays exploring the west we decided to make a permanent base there. The house had been empty for years when we bought it and it has been a labour of love(and despair sometimes) to renovate it. As we have children at school we cannot use the house as much as we used to. It now makes sense to let other people use it and discover what a fantastic area it is.

We have holidayed in most parts of Scotland but nowhere else can beat the variety of scenery and activities we have on our doorstep.
The Munros in Glencoe, the views at Port Appin, fresh seafood on the pier at Oban,cycling off road from almost the end of the garden,walking to the local hotel for a beer on the sun deck or pier,ferry trips,castles,history,fabulous beaches a bit further afield....We really do have it all. When the sun shines there is no better place to be.
We use the property a lot ourselves so we know it is comfortable and well equipped.
We want everyone to love the house and area as much as we do so we have left lots of information,maps,books,guides etc to make sure you have a good holiday.
The house itself is unique.The former schoolroom-now the lounge -gives it a 'wow' factor especially when watching the ever changing loch views.
One of our best holidays. The cottage was fantastic. There were lots of great places to visit nearby. We loved the view and our sons loved the cycle path. It was even warm enough for our oldest son to try swimming in the loch.
The house was very comfortable with fantastic views. It was great to sit in front of the stove in the evening with a glass of wine watching the sun set over the loch. We all loved our time there and intend to go back.
We stayed at the School house for a week. It was exactly what my family needed after a stressful year.
The accommodation was of an excellent standard, with everything we could possibly need. The school House is situated in the most beautiful location. It is perfect if you like walking & spending time in nature. We were blessed with good weather, so spent most of our visit outside amongs the amazing wildlife!
We loved Oban, I would especially recommend doing a boat trip to see the Seals, my kids loved it, & it is very reasonably priced!
Don't forget your Camera, because you will need it, the Highlands is breathtakingly beautiful!
We had a fantastic two week 'summer' holiday.
The house was better than described, was very clean and had all the comforts of home (plus amazing views from the front window).
Fiona (the owner) was very helpful from the first enquiry, through booking, paying, holidaying and returning.
I'd happily recommend the property to family and friends, indeed we already have.
For us I'm sure the location could be topped. The view across the loch was different everyday (depending on what the weather was doing). The cycle path across the road was a gentle 15 minute walk to the Holly Tree Hotel. We never ate there but it was great for a drink in the evening or a bit of tea and cake during the day.
The Segway experience at the Dragon's Tooth golf club (about a 15 minute walk in the opposite direction to the Holly Tree) was a great way to see some of the countryside.
There's so much to do in the local area. Our highlights were walking the hidden valley in Glencoe, seeing Inchree falls, climbing Ben Nevis (check the forecast before you start) ate amazing seafood (and afternoon tea on a separate occasion) at the Lochleven Seafood Café, ate more light lunches and cake at the Castle Stalker View café and enjoyed seal watching on a speed boat from Port Appin pier.
All in all a great house, in an amazing area with plenty of outdoor activities and good available.
Our family of 6 had a fabulous week at the Old Schoolhouse! The location is stunning with wonderful views over the Loch. And the house is absolutely brilliant - tasteful stylish décor throughout, but with a warm friendly feel. The wood-burning stove is great. The kitchen is very well equipped, with a functional separate utility area for washing clothes. And beds all comfortable, with lots of storage space in the bedrooms. We enjoyed our stay immensely. My husband (and 30 friends and family) completed his last Munro Bheinn a'Bheithir, which is in fact 2 Munros looming behind the house! And we had a great celebratory meal for this achievement and his 50th birthday at the local Ballachulish Hotel - our 3 course meal for 40 people was very tasty, efficiently served and staff very helpful. From the Old Schoolhouse, we then enjoyed the rest of our week exploring the brooding Glencoe area - great National Trust Visitor Centre explains how the area was formed and the history in an interesting way for all ages. Recommend the View Café for its amazing scones and view of Castle Stalker. And the Ice Factor National Indoors Climbing Arena is brilliant for an energetic day out when it rains - our children loved the indoors climbing walls, other friends tried out the ice-climbing walls, good cakes and coffee too! The local Co-op in Ballachulish is well stocked for supplies; we cooked most of our meals at the house since on a budget with 4 children! Fiona, the owner of the house, is the most welcoming and helpful holiday home owner imaginable - she went out of her way to accommodate our needs and give us local information; and was very kind, even providing a celebratory drink for us!! Would love to return for another great stay! Thank you Fiona!!
Our stay at the old schoolhouse was the highlight of a two week tour through the UK. The cottage not only provided a convenient starting point to explore the west, but was also a nice place to just sit and relax. The view from the front room was one of the most spectacular of our entire trip, made even more comfortable by the wood burning stove. Easy access to the beach which had a few tide pools (nothing too exciting) and apparent seagull rookery on the rock. This is not a place to come if you necessarily want to meet the locals, but great for a very quiet, private getaway in beautiful scenery. Would definitely do this again!
Very cosy and spacy house with a great view across Loch Linnhe. Ideal Location for trips in the vicinity; e.g. Isle of Mull, Iona, Glen Coe, Oban etc.
This is a beautifully decorated, clean and very well equipped property in a great location. Very well situated for visits to Glencoe, Glen Nevis, Ben Nevis. Oban, Fort Wiiliam, the "Road to the Isles" and many more.
The loch foreshore is 2 minutes walk away.
Heading south there are small beaches at Cuil Bay and Port Appin,both around 20 minutes drive away. There are sandier stretches closer to and in Oban.
The Ardnamurchan Peninsula has a number of beautiful sandy beaches,especially Sanna Bay.
To the north Arisaig and Morar have a string of white sandy beaches and can be reached in approximately 90 minutes.
Both Glasgow and Inverness Airport are approximately 2 hours 15 minutes drive away.
Edinburgh Airport is approximately 2 hours 30 minutes drive away.

Scenic boat cruises down Lochs Linnhe and Sheil and ferries to Ardnamurchan Peninsula, Lismore and Mull nearby. Ferries to most Scottish Islands operate from Oban and Mallaig. Faster boat trips to Muck, Eigg and Rum from Arisaig.
History everywhere. Re-trace the route of the fugitive Jacobite Alan Breck in Robert Louis Stevenson's Kidnapped close to the house or visit Glenfinnan, where Bonnie Prince Charlie raised the standard in 1745 to gather the clans. The Glencoe Museum has the haunting story of the Glencoe Massacre. Or follow the castle trail and see Castles Tioram, Stalker or Dunstaffnage.
The nearest bar/restaurant is a 20 minute walk away along a scenic loch side cyclepath. Tea and cakes, good lunches and dinners available at a number of excellent cafes, restaurants and bars within a 10-30 minute drive.
There is a well stocked small Co-op supermarket 3 miles away in Ballachulish and further larger supermarkets and more specialist shops (including outdoor shops) at both Fort William and Oban
