Why Helen Charlton chose Eskdaleside cum Ugglebarnby
I loved Whitby and the surrounding area as a child, so that's where I looked for a gorgeous retreat, and Lavender Cottage stole my heart as soon as I saw it! Although it did need quite a lot of love and hard work to bring it back from the 1970's interior!! This is a very special romantic retreat, and you will discover Lavender has been tastefully refurbished, and it combinins vintage finds, seaside paintings, local antiques and lots of luxurious fabrics. It's been a labour of love!!
What makes this Cottage unique
Lavender is perfect for honeymooners or anniversaries It has lots of special touches...... Emma Bridgewater pottery, to a gorgeous antique French bed, a picnic hamper for you to use and the whole cottage has a homely, comfortable feel. It is stunningly presented… and it’s luxury all the way! Just kick off your shoes, relax, unwind… and enjoy!!
Cancelled bookings will not receive a refund.
The Perfect Yorkshire Moors Retreat
This idyllic property is located in the small village of Iburndale, a 10 minute uphill walk from the village of Sleights with beautiful views of fields and countryside overlooking the Moors of Yorkshire. Lavender Cottage is an excellent accommodation choice if you’re seeking the perfect getaway from everyday, busy life. The owner Helen is fantastic - very fast at responding to emails and knowledgeable of the local area. The cottage offers an exquisite little garden - perfect to sit and have a morning champagne breakfast or to sit outside in the evening with a glass of wine. Thank you so much for making our first wedding anniversary celebrations absolutely lovely - yet another reason why we love Yorkshire :-)
That's made my day!
Thank you so much for your lovely comments.
Excellent cottage and location
We had a great time and really enjoyed exploring the area. The cottage was excellent, very comfortable and immaculate. Shame about the log burner but Helen fully explained the problem, no matter we would definitely go back.
What a gorgeous place with all you could need for a stylish and relaxing stay. Will definitely be making a return visit.

Pretty little cottage, very clean, beautiful furniture and accessories and sweet garden.
We enjoyed our stay in this pretty little cottage. Clean and accessorised beautifully. Cute and charming, with a sweet garden and a resident robin to entertain us. Parking nearby . A short drive to Whitby and sandsend. Beautiful views around sleights and Whitby. Thank you, Joe and Carole
It was a pleasure to welcome you, Jo and Carole. Many thanks indeed for your wonderful review!
Gorgeous quaint cottage in lovely location. We felt immediately at home sipping our wine in front of the wood burner. Cottage is immaculate and had everything we needed. Location is great as it combines the seclusion we as city dwellers crave but with easy access to Whitby and surrounding villages. Perfect cosy retreat to recharge the batteries.
Many thanks Lee for your wonderful review, it was a pleasure to welcome you.
