About Sarah Midgley
Peter and I have owned the Ice Cream Parlour in Reeth for 14 years, since we married in 1999. We bought the property to be our first home as well as a business. We were very happy living in the apartment and loved watching every detail of Reeth life through the two lovely front windows! The Ice Cream Parlour has been an enjoyable business to run. We meet very many interesting and different people who return year after year. We now have two children who are growing fast and an opportunity arose to move to a larger property across the Green. We have spent the last year refurbishing the apartment and feel that it offers a lovely relaxing place to enjoy a holiday in Swaledale.

Why Sarah Midgley chose Reeth
We were newly married and looking for a business and a home. Peter is local to the Richmond area and we had always enjoyed visiting Reeth. I will always remember the lovely feeling of driving out of Richmond and into the hills, the scenery getting steadily more dramatic and knowing that Reeth was now our home.
What makes this Apartment unique
Cuckoo Hill Apartment is in the centre of Reeth. It is an interesting and lively village with plenty of places to eat. There are craft shops, a post office, corner shops and bakery. There is a lovely children's play park with stunning views across to the swing bridge and River Swale. Many walks of varying lengths start from the village and bike hire is available from the nearby cycle centre at Fremington.

Wonderful Christmas Getaway
Truly fantastic location with stunning views and great walking from the doorstep. Very cosy cottage, felt so at home from the moment we walked in. Well equipped everything we needed and more. Roaring open fire on an evening was a great way to unwind. Highly recommend.
Great place, amazing views
We had 3 nights at this lovely property in Reeth. It has beautiful views, a cosy fire and everything you need in the kitchen. The owners are kind and helpful. Reeth has 3 pubs a few local shops and many great walks o the doorsteps. We’d like to come back one day.
Thanks for the lovely review!
Upstairs appartment in Reeth
This was a very nice and clean 2 bedroom appartment above an ice cream shop. The hosts were very hospitable and accommodating. ...and their home made ice cream was among the best we ever tasted. Having an entire appartment at our disposal, as opposed to a single hotel room, made our stay so much more enjoyable. Would definitely consider staying there again. My personal rating would be an 8 out of 10.

Special interest holidays:
Swaledale is ideal for walking holidays there are numerous lovely walks from the doorstep. Reeth is situated on the Coast to coast walk and a days walk to Richmond crosses fabulous rolling hills, along rocky escarpments and through ancient woodland. There are many lovely shorter walks for the family. A round walk across the picturesque swing bridge and along the River Swale,(starting off or ending up at the well equipped play park,) is a particular favourite.
Reeth is looking forward to the 'Tour de France Grand Depart' in July 2014 when top world cyclists will fly through the village. Cycling is a popular activity in Swaledale, bicycles can be hired from the nearby Dales Cycle Centre so why not try some of the 'Tour de France' Route or hire a mountain bike and take to the hills.
Whitby (70 miles) and Scarborough (85 miles) are the closest seaside areas, reached by a pleasant drive over the North Yorkshire Moors. The beautiful Northumberland Coast is a 2 hour drive up the A1 and boasts some of the most deserted and beautiful sandy, windswept beaches.
Durham Tees Valley, Newcastle and Leeds Bradford are the closest airports. The nearest mainline train station is at Darlington or Northallerton.
Local bus services runs from Richmond regularly every day of the summer and week days in the winter.

Castle lovers will be in their element at the imposing Castle Bolton (near Redmire 10 miles) where Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned. Richmond boasts an impressive Norman Castle which towers high above the Swale. More castles can be explored at Middleham, and Barnard Castle.
Beautiful waterfalls and limestone pavements are found at Aysgarth. West Burton and Keld also have lovely waterfalls to explore.
Wensleydale Dale and Swaledale both have stunning scenery and you will come across village after village with little cafe's, art galleries, craft shops and village pubs.
The countryside still holds evidence of Swaledale's lead mining past, with old tunnels and deserted lead miners cottages high in the hills. Reeth has a lovely Museum which takes you back to the time of the lead miners and is very interesting and enlightening.
Families will love the adventurous 'Forbidden Garden' in Wensleydale where you are immersed in a quest to find hidden clues.
Hazel Brow Farm at Low Row also offers children a hands on look at farming.
