Converted Stable in Napton on the Hill, Warwickshire, England - Secluded, Rural Location Next To The Oxford Canal

Offers rural seclusion and a great base for gongoozling (canal watching!), walking and cycling. It is within easy driving to Stratford, the Cotswolds, Coventry Cathedral, Warwick Castle, Leamington Spa and National Trust properties.

The property is adjacent to the lock keepers cottage and was originally built for the horses used on the canal. The only other neighbours are sheep, although there is a traditional pub 100 metres away.

Fabulous cottage!

  • 5 of 5

This cottage is absolutely gorgeous, and way prettier than the photos show. It is right beside the canal lock so you can watch boats going through, and a 2 min walk to the local pub which serves delicious food.

Nigel the host is very welcoming.

We shall return!

Owner's Response: Thanks for the great review. I think I should get some better pictures. After 10 years of living here I am still fascinated by the boats going through the locks. The local pub is particularly welcoming and cosy this time of year with blazing log fires. Difficult to stay away! Look forward to welcoming you back. Nigel

Henlow, Bedfordshire.

Pretty, cosy, well appointed and the perfect location for us.

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is located exactly as described and we weren't disappointed by any aspect of the owners description. Its warm, well appointed, pretty, cosy and everything we needed was provided. Nigel the owner has clearly thought about the design, the fixtures and fittings and as such has created a perfect getaway. We will definitely be re-visiting. All in all Nigel should be very proud of this property. Thank you again for letting Freddie the Spaniel stay with us. We hope to return very soon.

Ideal weekend break. Only problem was the Easter weather! Loved the Folly Pub....just next door.

Owner's Response: Shame about the weather. I agree with you about the Folly. It’s my local pub and think that this how all pubs should be. Thanks for visiting and your review. Nigel

A nice quiet getaway

  • 5 of 5

Excellent location, very peaceful. The cottage is well equipped and very comfortable. Many thanks to Nigel for making sure we had everything we needed.

We found the village shop had everything we needed and more. We can not recommend the Folly Inn enough, the food is excellent and the atmosphere welcoming.

Thanks again Nigel, we will be back.

Lovely warm and cozy cottage

  • 5 of 5

We booked this cottage as a base to stay while we were at Crufts (NEC Birmingham) absolutely perfect place to relax and unwind and so very peaceful. The cottage is well equipped comfortable, spacious and warm. Unfortunately we had torrential rain Friday night, muddy paws not a problem with the lovely warm stone floors, dry and cleaned easily, when the sun did come out ,a lovely sun trap in the garden. Dogs loved playing out there and they apparently didn't disturb Nigel which is reassuring to know. Wish we had booked to stay longer as we didn't even manage to get to the village store. Will certainly be booking again if Nigel will have us.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your super review. Really pleased that you both (and the dogs) enjoyed your stay. I honestly never heard your dogs once. I have never met Dutch barge dogs before - lovely animals. I guess that they should feel at home next to the canal. Living next door, I love coming home to the peace after commuting from work in Birmingham, although on my return I can't help myself from helping people navigate through the locks, many on their first boating (and locking) experience. Helping boaters is optional for my visitors! If I visit the NEC (without dogs) there is a frequent train service from either Rugby (12 miles) or Leamington (10 miles) right to the door of the NEC. You are most welcome to return and explore the great footpaths around here (and the village shop!). The lambs are growing up and the water buffalo will be back in the fields after their winter inside. The patio gets the sun all day long (when it shines), and when it does shine it is tempting not to go anywhere or do anything and just enjoy the moment. But then isn't that what breaks are all about. Thanks again and best wishes, Nigel

Super cottage for two.

  • 5 of 5

We booked this cottage for a February weekend to visit our daughter at nearby University of Warwick and were so pleased we did. It is in a beautifully quiet and picturesque location, next to a flight of locks on the Oxford Canal. It has views across open fields, with a very welcoming pub a few steps away and a brilliant local post office and stores nearby. Arriving after dark, the cottage was warm and cosy with everything you could need. Nigel arrived just as we did with a friendly welcome and a bottle of wine awaited us inside. We took our dog along too and she really appreciated the underfloor heating: we loved the log burner too! We really enjoyed our short break and would love to return sometime soon.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your lovely review. It really is a picturesque location here. I am biased as I live here, but I still appreciate it. I have taken loads of pictures of frozen locks and snow drifts on the frozen canal. The local pub (The Folly) has been something of a sanctuary in the worst of the winter weather (my excuse). Roaring log fires, real ales and diet busting pub grub - difficult to stay away from! I shall pass on your comment about the village shop. The owners have really made an effort to make the place a useful focal point for the community. Long may they continue. Easter should see the return of canal boat traffic, which is ideal for gongoozling - the stress busting art of canal watching (I didn't make that word up by the way!) I look forward to welcoming you back here. Best wishes, Nigel
