About Gwen Gill
We are a family of 6. This is our holiday home in Barbados, built by us from scratch and finished 4 years ago. We designed it to make the most of the cooling breezes passing through the tropical Glade in which it stands while being a short walk form our favourite West Coast Beaches, Gibbs and Mullins. In short, we have everything here to make a holiday as easy and relaxing as possible. Now that we have teenage children, they can come and go to the beaches as and when they like .yes we are that close!!

Perfect family home
We stayed at this property for 9 days in late June/early July. We had a total of 6 young adults and us (parents) and there was more than enough room for everyone. The home is just beautiful - and so much nicer than the pictures show (the pictures really don't do it justice). The furnishings are very nice - much better than any of the other homes we have stayed at. The pool is wonderful and the pool furniture was perfect. The kitchen is well equipped - but was missing a blender and everyone needs mixed drinks at the beach! Not to worry - Candace (the property manager) got us one straight away! There are a few things that I would recommend for the kitchen, but you can definitely get by without them (a cheese grater, a new skillet to replace the warped one, and some better sharp knives). The refrigerator was not working properly on one day, but Candace was quick to get someone out and by the time we returned from the beach it was back to cold.
Marcelle (housekeeper) does an excellent job and she and Candace are a wealth of information about what to do in the area.
The homeowner was very easy to deal with and quick to answer my texts.
So - some advice on the area. Barbados is unbelievably expensive -much worse than I was anticipating. Food prices were so bad - double anything we buy in Virginia. I have never paid over $7 USD for a half-gallon of milk. Had I known it was this bad, I would have used a separate suitcase and paid the checked bag fee to bring a lot of non-perishables with me. You will be so grateful you did - no one wants to pay $8 USD for a box of cereal for your kids. Gas was the other expense - it equated to over $14 USD per GALLON!
The beaches were nice - much narrower than what we are used to but the water is clear and very warm.
Things to do: The Boatyard seems expensive, but you get most of the entrance fee back in food and bar credits and there is a lot to occupy the kids here.
Highly, highly recommend Ocean Daze Catamaran's for a day sail. They take a maximum of 12 on their very nice Catamran. The crew of 3 are wonderful; the food they provide is unbelievably good and so much of it! This was truly the highlight of our trip - so much so that we went twice. You won't regret the smaller number of people on this boat - some of the day sail's we saw were just packed with people. Great if you are looking for a party boat - not so much if you want to enjoy just your family.
Highly recommend this home.
We had a fantastic family holiday at the villa. The large swimming pool was great for our three young children. We spent most mornings lazing around the villa and pool. The location is perfect for a short walk to Gibbs or Mullins beaches. The team looked after us extremely well with lots of good recommendations to make our first trip to Barbados overall an excellent experience.
Absolutely amazing villa
This was our first villa experience and absolutely loved it. We were a party of eight adults. We stayed at Gibbs breeze just after the Easter holiday for 2 weeks. Everyone was amazing and welcoming the villa is in a good location we hired a car with gwen's help. Gwen is amazing nothing is to much trouble I would definitely return and defiantly recommend as we all didn't want to return home.
A stunning, beautifully furnished home
We are two families who stayed at Gibbs Breeze over the Easter holidays (our children are 10 and 8). The house is beautiful with a wonderful private pool and luxurious fixtures and fittings. The master bedroom with ensuite, walk in wardrobe and private balcony is especially wonderful. The house is laid out well with 2 bedrooms on the ground floor and 2 on the second floor. The kitchen is well stocked and the house has plenty of outside areas to escape from the sun if required.
Marcel the housekeeper was great and looked after us well. Gibbs Breeze is located just over a 5 min walk from both the stunning Gibbs and Mullins Beaches. There is also a bus stop a short walk away that will take you across the island. We tried out many of the local restaurants, our favourites being Mullins Beach Bar and the Fish Pot.
We chose the house for its location and size but have ended up booking for a second year because of its welcoming family atmosphere. Nothing was too much trouble and when the house telephone was out of use we was left with a mobile phone so that we could still call and make local dinner reservations. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Gwen's home.
Family holiday in paradise!!
Where do I start. We have (sadly) just returned from the most fantastic holiday at Gibbs Breeze. The villa itself is beautiful, very well-equipped with everything we needed and very spacious, lovely pool / outside area.
Gwen has been incredibly helpful and sent us lots of useful information prior to our trip. Her "team" in Barbados are wonderful, Candace and Marcel keep the house beautifully and have looked after us really well, Dave provided airport transfers, again he was lovely.
Villa is in an idyllic location, situated just 5 mins from Mullins and Gibbs beaches, both of which are beautiful. We hired a car and so were able to explore and enjoy many more parts of this wonderful island.
We would have no hesitation in recommending Gibbs Breeze. Thank you Gwen and your family for sharing your beautiful home, we would love to visit again - a truly magical holiday.
Fabulous Gibbs Breeze
Our family (2 adults and 2 children aged 4 and 6 years) just returned from a fabulous couple of weeks at Gibbs Breeze. It's an elegantly-decorated, spacious house, well equipped for self-catering. The outside space is very comfortable with lots of sofas and loungers and the pool is very inviting (and deep enough for kids to jump in).
The house was well looked after by Marcel whilst we were there (housekeeping twice a week) and Candace, the house manager, checked in on us a few times too.
The house is well located, being a 5 minute walk from either Gibbs beach (our favourite on the island) or Mullins beach. We've stayed in a few villas in this area and this is by far the best one, it offers great value for money in this location. We'll be back!
Gibbs Beach is 5 minutes walk. A beautiful secluded and exclusive location with tranquil and safe swimming. Lively Mullins Beach is also 5 minutes walk. Here you will find watersports and fun things to do on the water. There are also sunbeds (US$10 per bed for the day) a small kiosk with gifts and refreshments and a beach bar/restaurant with fabulous views.
Grantley Adams International airport: 30km or 45 minutes drive maximum. Daily flights from the UK on Virgin or BA and regular flights from the USA and Canada.
Holetown 4km: Speightstown 1km: Bridgetown: 13km: Atlantic East Coast 13km straight across the island where you can see scenery of a very different sort. We are also within close driving distance of many of the attractions on the island: Harrisons Caves, Animal Flower Caves, Welshman Hall Gully, Farley Hill. Surfing on teh South Coast is about 1/2 hours drive away.
So many things to do here.or nothing at all!!! Spend all holiday in the sun on some of the most beautiful beaches in the world followed by fine dining in top class restaurants or great food in local beach restaurants with unparalleled views, some within walking distance of the house. Or you can play golf/waterski/sail/surf/paddleboard/kitesurf/tennis....the list is endless. There is a high end spa also within walking distance together with a gym if you are so inclined. Oh and don't forget the rum punch...........
You will find an extensive list of local amenities/attractions in the guest notes which you will receive around 6 weeks before you arrive
