About this property

Traditional Dales Cottage With Stunning Views

Rose Cottage has a south facing terraced front garden with fantastic views across the dale. Entry to the cottage is via a useful porch, designed to accommodate muddy boots and/or for drying off the beloved pet! The kitchen diner is homely and furnished in farmhouse style with a traditional Yorkshire flagged stone floor. A cosy beamed sitting room provides a relaxing place to "get away from it all" and relax. There is a utility room which provides space for storing outdoor equipment such as climbing or cycling gear. The stairs lead to a newly refurbished shower room and then upwards on to a separate cloakroom with WC and wash basin. The two double bedrooms are at the front of the house and both provide beautiful views across the dale to the opposing hills. Situated in a lovely quiet and friendly village Rose Cottage is ideally placed for those wishing to walk the many footpaths, cycle the quiet lane or simply relax and watch the world go by.

Health & hygeine hazards - check they have been resolved before booking this cottage.
While the cottage does have a certain charm and is of its age, this is no excuse for the health and hygiene issues that caused us to leave after just one night of the five nights we had booked. The pictures in the listing were not representative of the reality of this property, which smelt strongly of damp, was covered in cobwebs (and spiders), had dead insects in the bathroom light fitting, and clearly has issue with mice/rats - which we heard in the ceiling & were concerned about immediately upon entering the property, owing to the many high sound frequency deterrent plug-ins placed around the property. Having decided to give the place the benefit of the doubt, one of us was up coughing all night (undoubtedly linked to the damp and unclean state of the property). The bed itself was comfortable and the lounge was cosy but we didn't not feel comfortable in the kitchen or bathroom areas due to the cleanliness and pest issues. Having decided to leave the property early, we contacted the property owner to inform them. To her credit, she refunded us for the four nights we did not stay but only after initially stating she 'did not agree' with our complaints - even though she later confirmed she was unable to check the issues. The property is in a in idyllic setting and could be a lovely escape but is currently in a state of disrepair and needs a deep clean. I would advise that any potential guests check with the owner that the issues described above have been resolved before booking.

Quirky
Lovely rustic, quirky cottage in a tiny hamlet. Very warm and cosy thanks to the Esse range which I was just getting good at cooking with when we had to leave, loved it as did our dogs who were happy to curl up next to it all night! Plenty other options for cooking in the cottage, the microwave combo grill was a fantastic. Lovely walks from the doorstep, especially the path that takes you from Marrick to Grinton (approx 3 miles) for lunch at the Bridge in, dogs and muddy boots are welcomed inside but there are tables outside too. The downside was the path takes you through a farmyard which has an aggressive farm dog (black lab type called Sam) who bit our dog. Slightly spoiled the walk knowing we had to come back through on our way home, thankfully he wasn’t out! Communication with Gay was 1st class, even without a phone signal! If you are looking for perfection, this is not the cottage for you! It is a beautiful old cottage with spiders, steep stairs and no straight walls or level floors, we loved it!

Beautiful location
We were disappointed with the cleanliness of this property and also the furniture, it was very mismatched and cheap. I spent our first day cleaning and removing spiders and cobwebs. The kitchen was so cluttered we couldn't use any cupboards for food as they were full to bursting with so many dishes. The beds were very clean and comfortable and this was lovely. This cottage is beautiful and the location is stunning, we enjoyed local walks and the surrounding locations which was why I rated this holiday a yes I enjoyed my stay. Rustic matching furniture and a major declutter and clean would have made this stay much better....I understand the cottage is rural but it can also be clean and tastefully decorated. Guests do not need all that clutter in the kitchen. A holiday is what you make it and we enjoyed our stay in the glorious Yorkshire Dales.

Perfect getaway far from the maddening crowd
Amazing location, quaint cottage with all you'll need for your stay. I brought all food and laundry stuff I needed which was useful as no local shops. I'd highly recommend for walkers and couples looking for a refreshing break away from everything. Highly recommend visits to Reeth market Thursday mornings and Richmond any day for a variety of lovely shops and an interesting architecture ☺️👍
