House in Merindol, Apt, Vaucluse, Provence-Alpes-Cote DAzur, France - Beautiful Setting Of 4 Acres In Luberon National Park
Why Marie Haenlein chose Mérindol
We bought this house 31 years ago from an Architect friend (Leonard Manasseh) who designed and built it himself in 1974. Although the house has a modern design it is built with local materials and we bought it primarily for the views. The front of the house looks over the Durance Valley to Mallemort and to the rear the Luberon mountains. It is on a well known walking route to the Gorge du Regalon although the local council do not encourage walkers in the hot months. The road up to the house from the hamlet of Champeau is rocky it doesn't last for very long and it is worth it when you get there. It is our home away from home and we have over the years steadily improved it (funds permitting) so that it is now very comfortable and every visitor has loved being there.
What makes this House unique
The garden was landscaped at the time we built our lovely swimming pool but we have kept the planting to a minimum using those plants which thrive in hot climates. We own about 4 acres of mainly olive trees next to the house and no one else can build there because we were the last house to be built before the land was declared part of the Luberon Regional Park so our only near neighbour is our friend Nicole who lives in the house below ours. Lying in the pool watching the eagles soaring over the mountains is a wonderful treat as well as the walks in the Spring and Autumn.
Max guests:8 (sleeps up to 8 adults)
No smoking inside the house only on the Terrace and care must be taken because of forest fires
It is essential that children are not allowed in the swimming pool area unaccompanied. Also that toys and playthings are not left in the pool.

Beautiful villa, gorgeous pool.. A really relaxing holiday.
The villa is gorgeous and felt like a home from home. The views from the terrace are stunning and the pool is beautiful - the sun shines all day. The garden is huge and very private. A good location for visiting the Luberon and only 40 minutes from the airport at Marseilles. The pictures don't do the villa justice, it's beautiful.
On revient certainement.
Je suis tellement content que vous ayez passe de bonnes vacances et aime la maison. Cheers! Marie
There are beaches near Marseille but our favourite is about 1 and a quarter hour drive at Cassis which is on the road to St. Tropez. Alternatively St. Marie de la Mer at the bottom of the Camargue is about 50 mins away.
We fly to Marseille airport which is now served by British Airways, Easyjet, Air France and Ryanair and the house is a 45 minute drive from Marignane. You can also fly with Ryanair to Nimes which is about an hour and a quarter from the house. Avignon airport which is now served by Flybe is 30 mins. The TGV station is at Avignon (40 mins).
Merindol our local village is a 5 min drive (my husband walks); Mallemort which has all of the supermarkets, fish shop, wine shop etc. is 6 min drive; Aix en Provence is a 45 minute drive and Avignon 40 mins. The luberon has some of the most beautiful hill villages in France and we have a wealth of markets, abbeys, chateaux. Isle su la Sorgue has v well known antiques market on Sundays. Near to there is the Fountain de Vaucluse which is also worth seeing. Lots and lots to see.
