Harbourside cottage in Bosham, sleeps 6
About James Ware
The cottage has been in the family since the 1950's and has been a bolthole for the grandparents or adventure packed sailing summer holiday base for the younger generations. As a family we spend our time sailing to the beach, swimming of the quay and enjoying the spoils of the Anchor Bleu pub and barbecues in the back garden, not to mention watching the busy village life with a cup of tea in the sunshine of the front garden. Glorious days!
James Ware purchased this Cottage in 1950
Why James Ware chose Chichester
The cottage has been in the family for 60 years and has been a comfortable base for many visiting families to either sail or discover the local area. The visitors book is a cherished item going back to 1976 for the first entry!
What makes this Cottage unique
The cottage is in the heart of the village close to the waterfront, so close there is a step in the wall to stop high spring tides! There is a generous sized rear garden with patio and barbecuing area with chiminea for late night warming fires. There is a grassed area for the kids to play on and raspberries abundant throughout the summer. The cottage has a wood burning stove in the living room. Outside toilet and shower caters for the dripping sailors on their return.

This was a great place to stay. Very comfortable and well-equipped, in a great location near to the waterfront, friendly local pub with upstairs tables looking out over the water and the best fish and chips!
Lovely property in a great location
We only stayed at the cottage for a couple of days, but it really felt like home! It has everything you need, a cosy living room with a wood burning stove, comfy beds and a well equipped kitchen. The kids were fascinated with the tides comings and goings. Thank you!
peaceful and quaint
We thoroughly enjoyed our two night stay in Gloucester Cottage. It is very comfortable and has all the essentials, and was also very clean and tidy. Bosham is a very pretty village with plenty of character. The two cafes within walking distance from the cottage were very good also. We spent a very pleasant day on West Wittering beach with it's lovely golden sands and sand dunes [parking was £8.50 for all day Sunday!] All in all we would thoroughly recommend a stay here.
Cosy and comfortable haven steps away from harbour, cafe, pubs and stunning views.
We had a relaxing few days in this homely and spacious cottage in the heart of Bosham. It is very well equipped; the bedroom fans were particularly welcome in the heatwave! Sitting out in both gardens gives sun or shade, and privacy or ‘people watching’.
Thank you to James for sorting out a problem with our arrival (on a Sunday late afternoon) very quickly; your response was excellent and appreciated.
We would have no hesitation in visiting this property again.
The best location, relaxed as soon as we arrived
We were a close party of 6 females getting away for a wee break for a friends 50th, couldn’t have asked for anything better - spent more time at the cottage than we thought we would, it needs a tiny bit of work it’s not 5* but it could be and it did not matter for the price and location, very clean. I want to go back with my family on the summer holidays - the kids would love it there. Paying £4 for parking all weekend is brilliant and a 20min bus ride to fabulous Chichester was a bonus. Loved loved loved Gloucester cottage!
Beautiful place Bosham - thank you!
The location of the house was just perfect for us, beside the water and pub and most importantly near our friends who stay close by! The house was a little tired and maybe needs a little TLC but apart from that this was perfect, also has lovely garden at the back of house, perfect for the warm weather we had!
Special interest holidays:
It is ideal for those keen on sailing, as Bosham is one of the premier sailing villages in the area and will also appeal to people requiring a comfortable base from which to explore all the outstanding events in the area, such as motor sports events and horse racing at both Goodwood and Fontwell. Artists, birdwatchers, walkers and weekenders are attracted to the village all year round, particularly those with a sense of history. Bosham is thought by many to be the burial place of the last Saxon King, Harold. It was from Bosham that he sailed for Normandy in 1064 and both he and Bosham Church are depicted in the Bayeux Tapestry.
