About Karl & Coral Shaw
Coral and I have lived full time at Le Pas since 2010 with our 2 daughters, (21 and 17) and Indee our black Lab cross. We love the laid back way of life in Brittany and the friendliness of everyone we come across here.
Karl & Coral Shaw purchased this Farmhouse in 2010
Why Karl & Coral Shaw chose Le Ferré
Both my wife and I like the seasons and although Brittany is always that few degree's warmer than the UK we still have our summers and winters. Le Pas is ideal for us as access to the UK, should we need to head back, via road, rail, sea or air, but is still very much a rural part of France.

Refused to stay at the cottage
I refused to stay at the cottage and left after about an hour due to the following.
Arrived at the cottage around 5.15pm to find no one present but instructions to enter. Going into the cottage there was a strong smell of damp. Stone work was damp/sticky to the touch. All bedrooms and the shower room were downstairs and the living/kitchen on the first floor. Going upstairs first (to unpack food stuff in the fridge) the damp was not noticeable but the cleanliness of the kitchen poor. Food debris was on work surfaces, floor, stuck to a chair and in the pull out drawer of the fridge. Nothing excessive but enough to suggest that the cottage may not have been cleaned satisfactorily. Dark grey cobwebs hung from the beams of the vaulted roof and similar coloured ones hung from a kitchen cupboard next to the cooker hood. Kitchen doors were badly damaged. A disgusting green cloth heavily stained with dirt hung at the side of a cupboard. Using our own cleaning products (usually used on leaving a cottage) the kitchen, fridge, table and a couple of chairs were cleaned down. The patterned PVC table cloth was very dirty. Due to the state of the upstairs my wife and I went downstairs and examined the bedroom we were to stay (with metal framed double bed). The bed sheet had a small hole in it and something visible trapped beneath the sheet and the mattress. Lifting the sheet a thin 2" twig (or similar) was the offending item. On pulling the sheet back revealed the extent of the dirt with stained mattress cover and thick grey cobwebs between the headboard and wall. The quilt cover had a small spot of possible blood on it as well. The bathroom had a white coloured but heavily mould stained shower curtain. The shower had signs of mould also. Messages asking guests to use cleaning products provided by the owner were on display (due to a septic tank). Some cleaning products were present, including one dirty pre-used sponge. Very little toilet roll was present. All of this was too much to take and a decision made to leave. Images of the cottage were taken before it was vacated. Had the owner been present this would not have affected the decision to leave. I did send the owner a text regarding all of the above. I had to find/source 3 nights accomodation at short notice, losing some food the first night as I was unable to refrigerate it (predominantly milk/cheese). Being limited by the number of characters allowed unable to add more, but seek my money back in full.
Quiet location perfect for exploring fascinating Brittany/Normandy
Very attractive and comfortable stay. We had a busy schedule visiting all the lovely towns/sights nearby and it was great to return to the property to rest, enjoy the lovely garden and drink wine every evening. A perfect retreat!
Really nice holiday
We stayed for a week in August. We found the gite relatively easily after quite a long journey from Calais. Ellie was there to greet us and was friendly and helpful. I think maybe a folder of information and directions to supermarkets/shops/places of interest would be a useful addition as we did feel a little that we were relying on internet searches rather than any local knowledge. We did however manage to find the supermarket, which is great and has everything you need when self catering. We had a really great day out at Mont St Michel, Fougeres, Cancale and Carolles Beach, which were all easy to drive to. We ate some wonderful food, made the most of the price of wine and would recommend La Pas to friends and family looking for a quiet, rural holiday within easy reach of some great places.
Excellent week in Brittany
We had a busy week touring Brittany and nearby Normandy based from Karl & Coral's beautiful gite at Le Pas. The gite itself is close to a village with basic amenities and a short drive away from St James a quaint town with a choice of supermarkets, fuel outlets, etc. It is also very close to good motorway links. The hosts are friendly and discrete with helpful advice if required about the local area.
The gite is well equipped and comfortably furnished in a modern contemporary finish. There's a good amount of storage space and plenty of parking space outside. If the weather is fine you can sit outside and take in the clean, fresh air without being overlooked by neighbours or having to cope with constant passing traffic.
We used the large open grassed area at the side of the gate for a family game of rounders and were greeted by Indie, the hosts very friendly pet labrador,on a few occasions. Also the lovely bottle of red wine awaiting us on our arrival was most welcome.
During our stay we visited Mont Saint Michel, well worth a visit, several of the Normandy D-Day beaches and museums, which gave us a fantastic and moving insight into this mammoth operation and several beautiful towns and villages. The area is very picturesque and well worth a visit.
We would thoroughly recommend Le Pas to anyone wanting a relaxing and comfortable stay in this beautiful area of France.
Many thanks to Karl, Coral, Ellie and of course, Indie.
Very quite location
If your looking for somewhere just out of the way but still within easy reach of all the sightes and restaurants then you must stop here👍
Coral and her daughter Elle were really nice never bothered you unless you bothered then lol
A Restful, Rural Retreat in Brittany
Le Pas was perfect for us. We wanted a quiet rural week with time for reading, relaxation and resuscitation. We found all of this at Le Pas. The accommodation is stylish yet practical and well equipped. Everything worked as it should do and our hosts were consistently helpful, relaxed and reassuring. The garden is a delight and Le Ferre is deafeningly peaceful - apart from an excitable pair of dogs down the road. St James is beautiful and provides everything you might need to self cater (as well as a range of restaurants, cafes and bars). The American Cemetery is moving and impressive. Le Pas is conveniently located for those who want to explore the towns and resorts of the north of Brittany: Mont St Michel, Dinan and Dinard are all within easy reach. Pontorson and Dol de Bretagne have some lovely bars and restaurants. We really enjoyed our stay at Le Pas and are grateful to Karl, Koral and Ellie for their welcoming and helpful approach. Thank you all.
The nearest beach is approx. a 30 minute drive.
Dinard Airport is 50 minures by car. St Malo is 40 minutes by car and Caen is 90 minutes by car. We are able to offer a discount for anyone wishing to book with Brittany Ferries, please contact us for more info.
