About Christine Round
I live in Mossley - a small mill town north east of Manchester - where I grew up and raised a family. It's a perfect location - in the foothills of the Pennines and enjoying lovely scenery, whilst being only 20 minutes by train from the hip and rocking city of Manchester - which is second to none for its live music, bars, restaurants, shops, theatres, art and culture. I am a writer and graphic designer, having been employed in Public Relations/Communications/Marketing capacity all my working life, including 20 years as a NHS Manager. I love music, cooking, animals, home-making and holidays in the sun. I like boat trips, beach combing, foreign markets, Santorini sunsets, Sorrento Pizzas and Gluhwein on the Berlin Christmas markets. Most of all I like to share a few cold beers with some good friends down by the river on a sunny afternoon. I chose to take early retirement from work, following a nasty accident in which I almost lost a leg. Keen to keep positive and build a new future for myself, I invested in property in Kalkan - the Apartment Pearl - one of the best decisions I have ever made. It is now my winter holiday home (Oct - May) and my summertime business. If you read the Trip Advisor reviews: .. you will see that the Pearl is more than just a holiday rental property. It has been furnished and presented with love, and has lots of extra touches that make a good holiday great! I now have a wonderful new life now, living in Kalkan for part of the year. I have fabulous new English and Turkish friends who have welcomed me into their homes and families. I get involved in local life, and do voluntary work for the local animal charity, KAPSA. With the mild winter climate, the swimming, the delicious food and wines, the views, the boat trips, the sunsets and the relaxed lifestyle, Kalkan has played an important part in my 'recovery'.

Why Christine Round chose Kalkan
Why this property? It is simply in one of the best locations in town. It is well-equipped, beautifully decorated and has amazing sea views from its private terraces. After visiting Kalkan for 15 years, when I first saw the Pearl, I knew immediately that it was the one for me. Previously I had stayed in rented apartments/villas and hotels all over town - many of which needed taxis to and from town, which somehow takes the spontaneity away from your holiday. The Pearl is right on the doorstep of the old town - with banks, bars, restaurants and shops just moments away - and even the beach/marina are only five minutes walk - yet the setting is tranquil. Whether you are looking for a traditional Turkish breakfast, sophisticated cocktail or a Turkish bath - they are only a stone's throw away from the Pearl. In the evening, after sundowners on your own private terrace, you can saunter down to a gourmet dinner at one of the amazing restaurants in town - Mussakka is a mere two minutes away. The Pearl feels like a small villa. On the one hand it is poolside and has direct access from the ground floor lounge to the outside Mediterranean garden for alfresco dining, the sunny furnished terrace and pool. At the same time, being duplex, there is an upper floor, where the bedrooms have private terraces and breath-taking sea views. The whole property is flooded with light and has great energy. With travertine flooring throughout, the feeling is bright, spacious and modern. The kitchen has high quality full size appliances, and the lounge is sophisticated and relaxed. My love of music, is reflected in the extensive music collection and speaker systems, whilst my love of cooking is reflected in the well equipped kitchen. The deck box on the terrace outside is filled with pool toys - water hammocks, noodles, swim goggles, snorkels, armbands, beach balls, ping pong bats, & beach chairs.
What makes this Apartment unique
In addition to the benefits mentioned above, the apartment is next door to the Dream Hotel which has one of the biggest and best pools in Kalkan - which my guests are welcome to use. They have even installed a small gate so guests can go straight from the apartment, right onto the pool terrace! The hotel has luxurious sun beds and mattresses, with stunning views over the bay out to the islands. There is a lovely pool bar where you can get cold drinks and hot snacks. Perfect location !
Wonderful owner- great that you can walk into the old town in 2-3 mins. Also using Dream Hotel pool is a bonus- would definitely recommend
We will definitely return! Outstanding in every way.
Great host and comfortable property in excellent location.
The apartment is very spacious, furnished to a high standard and has a lovely welcoming feel. The location was perfect only a few minutes to supermarkets, restaurants etc yet quiet and peaceful.
Christine, the owner, was extremely helpful and kept us informed every step of the way.
Kalkan is a small, charming and friendly resort with a host of great restaurants and a small clean safe pebble beach.
This was our 5th visit to Kalkan but won't be our last.
You won't regret coming to Kalkan or staying at the Pearl.
Best holiday we've had in a long time
The property was exactly as described and Christine has attended to every detail with great information before and during the stay. Jane who manages the property whilst you are in Kalkan is a plus too, great to have so much up to date local knowledge and someone on hand to answer questions. This was our 5th time in Kalkan and the best apartment we have stayed in. The added benefit of using the Dream hotel pool was great - they couldn't do enough for us. It was great to have our own place but also somewhere so near that we could take advantage of for lunch without being too far from the pool. The property is so close to Kalkan restaurants and also supermarkets and we also had a really good wifi signal. Very comfortable beds and sitting area. I would definitely recommend this property and hopefully we will come again. Thanks Christine.
Beautiful apartment in a very convenient position
Pearl apartment is a stunning property with comfortable furnishings, a lovely pool and gardens and just a stones throw from the centre of town. It was very clean and well looked after, with excellent equipment for cooking and sitting in the sun with a sea view. Having been to Kalkan several times, we certainly felt we got good value for money and were well looked after by the owner and the agent. The use of the next door hotel's facilities was an added bonus. I would definitely highly recommend the apartment to friends.
EverJust perfect for family
Could not recommend more highly.....
Apartment Pearl is centrally located in the heart of Kalkan's historical old town - a sophisticated and charming place with breath-taking views at every turn.
Shops, bars and restaurants within a hundred metres or so. The beach and marina are just a little bit further.
Kalkan is a gourmet’s paradise and has become renowned for its excellent dining. With a choice of over 150 restaurants there is something to suit all tastes and pockets – from top quality international cuisine to traditional rustic Turkish dishes. You can choose to dine at one of the quaint cafes tucked away in the backstreets – some with live music. Alternatively indulge in dinner at a romantic candlelit rooftop restaurant under the stars offering breath-taking views of Kalkan bay, or dine at one of the chic harbour side restaurants overlooking the spectacular marina. Guests at the Pearl will all receive a list of my personal recommendations which is regularly updated.
Most restaurants offer after dinner drinks and cocktails; you can sit and enjoy the hustle and bustle of the vibrant evening atmosphere. There are also a number of bars and cocktail gardens catering for the night owls, offering music and dancing until the early hours of morning. Many locals frequent the bars after closing their businesses and enjoy socialising with the holiday makers.
One thing you can be sure of is a warm welcome from the local Turkish people who are renowned for their hospitality. They will inevitably invite you to sit and join them for Turkish or apple tea (or something a bit stronger!) and a friendly chat.
Daytime can simply be spent lounging around the beautiful local white-pebbled beach (sunbeds and umbrellas are available for hire). There are many harbour side restaurants/cafes offering lunch, snacks and drinks.
There are two other beautiful beaches within easy access, as well as half a dozen beach clubs which can be reached by free local ferries from the harbour.
A 10 minute dolmus (shared local mini bus) ride, towards the next neighbouring town of Kas.
Patara beach (also known as Turtle beach)
In the opposite direction - a 15 minute dolmus journey takes you to the unspoilt 18km of golden sands.

A must is to book boat) for a day's excursion. It's a memorable and enjoyable experience you will not forget. Whilst you cruise around the nearby islands, stopping along the way to enjoy swimming in the crystal clear sea your captain prepares a feast for lunch. Tours leave 10am from the harbour and return around 5pm. Wander down to the harbour for information and to book.
