What a beautiful cottage, in a friendly village.
Met Diana who looks after the property. Such a warm and friendly lady
The weather was kind to us too. Been lovely thank you
Arrival was shambolic
Arrived at Spar, asked for key to the address given, no we don't have that address. "Are you sure you are right", "YES". "No we haven't"They then asked for the name of the owner & then said "oh that is definitely whatever the address was on the key. Took keys, pouring with rain, narrow lane so hubby parked up & I hunted for key address, no sign so went to address on email. Behold the keys worked it was what was on email. I was wet at this time. Stepped inside & was dismayed to see the dirt, mess, a bag full of dirty washing, kitchen with dirty dishes, fire debris over the floor in lounge, beds not changed & dirty bathroom. When I spoke to the cleaner two days previous she told me it was empty as from the Thursday & no problem with us GOING IN at any time on the Friday. As it was ready. Oh no it wasn't, we arrived at 2.45 pm, phoned the cleaner - I'll be along in 20 mins, no she wasn't, spoke to her 3 times in total & THE CLEANER ARRIVED AT 6.45pm. We had not unpacked & we were waiting to have something to eat after a long 5 hour drive. Even after they came in to change the bed only the main bedroom was done, it was still dirty. The bathroom in particularly. As for hot water, OK for shower & washing dishes in the kitchen but if you want a bath then it is hard luck. The night storage heaters were awful, bedrooms were boiling & the lounge was chilly. I mentioned this to owner re the bath & heating. Owner said switch the immersion on, no switch. Heating instructions in folder on how to operate/control it - no instructions in folder so left numerous messages for the cleaner. But no help. There was no hairdryer & yet she told me when I spoke with her two days ago that there was. The cleaner did get me one the following day. Lovely village & surrounds & very friendly in the shop. BUT WILL NEVER STAY AT THIS COTTAGE AGAIN. We did leave earlier than planned & we would have left even earlier if it wasn't for the fact that our son had arranged a steam train for the Tuesday. So left first thing Wednesday morning & left it in a tidier state then when we arrived. See from previous review that it was the same for them. Bathroom & kitchen really do need a make over. Felt sick using the bathroom. I did put in a complaint & sent photos of the dirt in the bathroom & all the other problems. The owner said & accepted a full refund but she onl sent us a cheque for less. Must be the worst cottage we have ever stayed in. Very sad, could be made into a very comfy place.
Response was sent on 17th September. Was this correct? Alison Vaughan
My family and I enjoyed a lovely 7 night stay here. Communication with Alison was easy and quick. Everything was just as it was meant to be. Would definitely recommend.
Perfect location for a base to explore what Snowdonia has to offer
Allison was great to communicate with - would like to return sometime.
Cosy cottage in a beautiful setting
The cottage provided us with everything we could have needed. I was especially pleased to find walking books for the local area on the bookshelf and there were some fabulous walks from the village, so no need to drive anywhere if you didn't want to! The garden is very pretty and as the weather was lovely we even managed a barbeque.
We visited the Slate Museum in Llanberis, apart from being an amazing drive through the Llanberis Pass, the museum is free and so informative and interesting, so would definitely recommend. Betws-y-Coed is just a 10 minute drive away. All in all, a relaxing stay for us all. By the way, parking is not an issue, there is parking at the top or bottom of the road and no one seemed to mind us quickly unloading our luggage outside the front door. Would love to go back and stay again. Thank you!
Loved the location , village , scenery
I stayed in the cottage with my three sons and our dog for three nights .stunning location , loved the little stream out the back and the views out the front . The cottage could really do with a new bathroom and kitchen as they are both rather tired and in need of updating .
We loved the wood burner , it was lovely after a days walking up Snowdon to return to the cottage and light the fire .
Parkings a real issue . The only parking is at the top of the road and unfortunately my car was dinked . This aside we enjoyed our stay . We recommend eating at the hotel , really welcoming and great food and you can take dogs in .
Thanks to Diana who manages the cottage and her son for such a lovely welcome , really lovely people .
Overall the cottage had a lovely feel and is very homely if in need of a revamp .
23 miles to Llandudno/45 minutes' drive.
The nearest airports are Manchester or Liverpool. As the cottage is in a rural setting the easiest form of approach is by car though Dolwydellan also has its own train station.
The cottage is 5 minutes walk into Dolwyddelan which has a well-stocked convenience store, a pub and a restaurant. Betws-y-Coed is 5 miles and has an excellent range of visitor facilities. Blaenau Ffestiniog (4 miles) has a wide range of shops and amenities as well as a slate mine which is open to visitors.
Conwy and Caernavon Castles are each 45-minute drive away, and Conwy also has a charming beach front.
Pen-y-Pass, a popular starting off point for Mount Snowdon, is a 40 minutes drive.
