A modern well equipped and located villa for a couple to enjoy their holiday.
About Steve Martin
We are Steve and Barbara Martin here, the owners of the available property. We have been happily married for 34 years and have two grown-up daughters. After falling in love with Crete we decided to have a holiday home here. We are both now retired so we can spend some of our time, usually early and late season, relaxing in the sun enjoying the peace and quiet and escaping the worse of the UK weather !
Steve Martin purchased this Villa in 2013
Why Steve Martin chose Milatos
The Villa is located on an elevated hillside plot with the incredible sea and countryside views you can see in the pictures above. The location was chosen for the close proximity of two Greek villages, both a 5 minute drive away but very different, and the fact that the transfer time to the airport at Heraklion is only about 45 minutes. The national road offer easy access to the villa by car day or night without navigating any towns or villages en route. We class our home village as Milatos, visible in the pictures which offers a lovely quiet and relaxed sea front location for enjoying traditional Greek meals cooked and served by the friendly owners of the tavernas. In the other direction is the busier village of Sissi, a popular tourist resort with its hotels, car and bike hire, supermarket and all the facilities we need. There is a wider range of waterside bars and restaurants.
What makes this Villa unique
The modern contemporary design of the villa makes the most of the incredible view, the rooms are awash with light from the walls of glass that separate the inside and outside living areas, Easily move between the two and enjoy the lifestyle offered by the dry climate and temperatures that Crete enjoys on its, widely reported, 300+ days of sunshine a year.
Smoking permitted outside only
A travel cot can be provided for a small child.
Minimum age of primary renter:21
100% refund for cancellations more than 60 days before check-in date.
Lovely villa, just perfect for the two of us. Immaculate and fully equipped with everything you could possibly need, although we didn’t really use the kitchen other than for breakfast as there are such lovely tavernas to choose from, so we ate out every day!
A car is essential but we chose to walk to the beach most days which took about 40 mins, it’s downhill on the way and we cut through the olive groves for a short cut, the return walk is a bit more challenging, the villas not called Milatos Heights for nothing!
Milatos is a very quiet and peaceful area so if you’re looking for lots of nightlife this is not the place to go to!
We loved it here and will definitely be returning in the future.
Thank you Steve & Barb, you were so helpful, from initial booking to the day we had to leave beautiful Crete, it was lovely to meet you, best wishes to you both.
Stunning Villa and Views
This was our second stay at Milatos Heights.
This time was every bit as good as the first.
Steve and Barb are fantastic, they will make sure you have everything you need and leave you in peace to enjoy this wonderful location.
The villa is totally private and is not overlooked by anyone.
Milatos is a great little village with plenty of Tavernas. It has even got its own ATM now which is a new addition next to the little supermarket. The lady in this shop is very friendly if an effort is made in Greek.
Sisi is not much further away than Milatos and is considerably bigger with much more tavernas and shops. All surrounding a pretty harbour. It’s a great place to people watch.
Malia is a 20 min drive and agios nikolaos is 40 mins the other direction.
Mochos is a very pretty village just above Malia in the hills, it has a beautiful square surrounded by tavernas, you’ll pass through this square if you’re on your way to the cave where Zeus is reported to have been born. Stop in Mochos for and hour and watch the world go by.
Obviously a car is essential, but not needed every day. Once you’re in this villa for a few hours it will feel like home.
Washing machine, dishwasher all the kitchen utensils and appliances you’re used to at home, but with a swimming pool and a fantastic view of Milatos beach.
Stunningly beautiful place.
You won’t be disappointed if you chose Milatos Heights as your moment in paradise.
Thank you Steve and Barb.
PS sorry we kept you up late, but your home made lasagna was gorgeous, thanks for sharing

Many thanks for your review, we are so glad that you enjoyed your second visit to Milatos Heights. Steve and I have tried to make the villa a 'home from home' with all you need to make your stay a comfortable and relaxed one.
It was great to chat, getting to know you a little better and would love you to visit again to share our piece of paradise
Steve and Barb
PS Not everybody gets lasagne!!
We spent a wonderful week in Steve & Barb's villa. It is much bigger than it appears in the photos. We particularly liked the open plan ground floor lounge/dining room which opens out to a very large terrace with a lovely view down to the sea. The motorised sun blind on the terrace gives you plenty of shade and you have the choice of comfortable basket seats and cushioned loungers. The pool is the ideal size for a quick dip and cool down. The villa is decorated and fitted out to a very high standard and the kitchen contains all the utensils you will need for breakfast, lunches and dinners. The WiFi is a dedicated line with a good speed and works reliably.
We would thoroughly recommend this villa for a stay in East Crete.
So pleased that you enjoyed your holiday and that you managed to see all the beautiful scenery and the archaeological sites on the island. We recommend that guests visit the Archaeological Museum in Heraklion and after your enthusiastic description of the new exhibition we took our daughter and she was suitably impressed.
Many thanks for your review.
Regards Steve and Barb
Peaceful and picturesque
We stayed here in September 2017. The villa was spectacular and very clean. The owners met us on arrival (English) and showed us around and told us everything we needed to know. Maps of the local area were provided and the villa was situated next door to their own villa if we had any problems. Very friendly welcome.
The villa itself is well designed, the views of the sea were spectacular and to be able to open your curtains in a morning and see that view from bed was amazing. There are fly screens for all the windows which at night were needed to keep the moths out but they worked very well indeed.
The villa and pool are situated next to the road down into Milatos but you soon get used to the quad bikes and coaches going past.
The villa is a perfect size and located for a week away from it all. There are enough restaurants by the sea front in Milatos for a different one each night, we didn't venture into Sissi except for to get groceries.
A lovely villa and we had a perfect week away.
We are so glad you enjoyed your holiday and had a relaxing time. We never feel anything but amazement at the ever changing scene through the bedroom window, even in winter the view is spectacular. It was nice that you spent time in the village, our neighbours and taverna owners are a freindly bunch.:-)
Lovely break for 2
We had a lovely fortnight. The villa was well equipped and Steve and Barb were really helpful, had thought of everything, they were on hand although were keen to avoid being intrusive. Lots of space for two of us. Fantastic sea view from the villa and a great place to relax or to go out sight seeing-lots of places to go all about an hour away. Milatos beach is rocky but there are some lovely sandy beaches slightly further afield. Boat trip to Spinalonga is a must.
Thanks for a lovely holiday.
So glad you enjoyed your holiday. Crete is a beautiful island and of course the villa is well situated to explore the east side of the island. As you said it is also perfectly suited for a relaxing holiday, lying in the sun and completely chilling. Keep the memories in mind when the winter winds blow, we would love to have you visit again.
Great location away from the Crowds
Probably the best location and villa we have had in twenty years. Steve and Barbara were fantastic hosts, extremely helpful during booking, arrival details, and during our stay. The villa is superbly finished and equipped. the location is amazing, views down to the sea. There are loads of great restaurants a very short drive from the villa, we ate at a different place each time we went out, and didn't have a bad meal. Not far to bigger places if you want a bit more! I couldn't recommend this villa more.
Thanks Jon and Wendy. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your holiday and the time you spent in the villa. We would welcome you back at any time to share our tiny piece of paradise
Best wishes Steve and Barb
:The villa is located between Milatos and Sisi . Out of the two Milatos is the more traditional one with and bougainvillea covered houses lining cobbled streets. The beach is shingle, approx. 2km,/ 3 minute drive away but its here on the seafront you will find welcoming tavernas and a small working harbour. The village is known for it's cave in which there is a small chapel dedicated to the men and women who took refuge in there and were subsequently killed by the Turks in 1823. Take a torch if you plan to visit, its a 10 minute walk from the main road. In the opposite direction is Sisi, approx. 4km., which is a bigger and more commercialised. There are several sandy beaches in the area, a number of tavernas on the seafront and even a small night club. If you wish to shop for provisions you will find a couple of supermarkets, butchers, bakeries, a pharmacy and the all important ATM
There is a large public beach near the archaeological site of Malia Palace about 8 minutes drive from the villa.
The famous Leper Colony Island of Spinalonga, the subject of a famous book ' The Island ' is well worth a visit. You can catch a boat in Agios Nikolaos, Elounda or Plaka. Each journey varies in time and cost with Agios Nikolaos being the furthest and Plaka just 2 minutes away.
The regions capital is Agios Nikolaos, the St Tropez of Crete, A bustling town where you can shop till you drop and discover the famous inner lake, around which you can sit at one of the many tavernas eating drinking and watching the world go by.
Further to the east there are good un-crowded coastal areas. Follow the coast road which climbs a little and offers incredible sea views whilst passing through picturesque unspoilt villages that are beyond the normal tourist areas of the island.
Alternatively go West back towards the airport and the capital of Crete Heraklion to experience the more densely populated and developed tourist areas with the popular resorts of Malia and Hersonissos and for a cultural experience visit the ruins of the Minoan Palace at Knossos.
The final option is to go inland and climb up into mountain villages that are the ' real ' Crete. T he region takes its name from the Lasithi Plateau, which is, as the name suggests, a very fertile flat area high up in the mountains. Although there are not many windmills in operation these days there are still a few to be seen dotted over the almost perfect patchwork of the plateau. It is a good example of rural Crete and every inch of the tiny fields is given over to the cultivation of some sort of crop. Just above the village of Psihro is the Dhiktean Cave rumoured to be the birth place of Zeus, king of the Gods of Mount Olympus
