Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday chalet in Caeathro - HEATED chalet 2 bed sleeps 5

Heated Chalet With Waterfall View On Country Estate, Caernarfon

This is a self contained 2 bedroomed chalet on the Glan Gwna country estate, to the front of the property is a lawn which goes down to a flowing river fed by a lake and waterfall to the right of the property. It is very peaceful and very private. There is garden furniture supplied so you can sit out by the river on those warm balmy evenings. There is a heron who visits regularly. The master bedroom has a double bed, bedroom 2, to the rear of the property, has bunk beds, a single bed on top and a double bed below. There is a lounge, bathroom, shower and bath and kitchen with all you could possibly need, and of course the grassed area between the river and the front of the property. It is a nice place to stay because it is very rural although you are not very far from any of the busy tourist attractions North Wales has to offer. A lovely place to return to in the evenings and just to put your feet up by the river and relax with a glass of wine. NO PETS

What can we do?: There is plenty to do in and around Caernarfon. It is only a short drive away from beaches, tourist attractions, castles, and much more. Some lovely places to visit are Portmeirion, Snowdon mountain railway, Greenwood forest Park, The Welsh mountain zoo, Betws-y-coed, Conwy, Llandudno, Slate mines. The isle of Angelsey and a local pottery where children and adults can try using a pottery wheel and then painting your creation. There is also a local sports centre, a swimming pool and many more things to do if the weather isn't at its best. You are only 2 miles away from Caernarfon centre where the famous Caernarfon castle is. This can be visited by tourists. There is also plenty of gift shops and places to eat nearby. There are some lovely blue flag beaches a short drive away, Dinas Dinlle is probably the closest, about 10-15 min., then there is black rock sands in Porthmadog which is about 25 min. but is well worth it. Anglesey is about 25 min. away and has the fantastic Newborough sands.

Where can we go?: This is great cycling, mountain biking, rambling and walking country. There is also horse riding, go carting nearby and cycle hire in Caernarfon.

North Wales is renowned for its white water kayaking. The Welsh National Mountain Centre at Plas y Brenin is perfect for expert and learner alike. If you fancy a bit of White Water Rafting then the National Centre near Bala is where to go, everything is supplied.

North Wales is home to over 60 golf courses, many of them soaked in history as much as sea spray. There are world-class championship courses like Royal St David’s, Aberdovey, Conwy, Nefyn & District and the Vale of Llangollen, to some hidden gems that you may hope will stay that way! Local courses are Caernarfon, Betws Y coed and Blaenau Ffestiniog .

If it’s mountain biking you’re after, the Forestry Commission’s Wales Mountain-bike Centre in Coed-y-Brenin forest is for you. Coed y Brenin was the first forest to be developed for the sport of mountain biking and to this day retains its reputation as the sports premier location. There are special Family Routes; however some of the other trails are only for the expert and the brave. All include rocky, technical features and are not recommended for novice riders. From tight technical single-track to fast open exhilarating sections, there's something on offer for all experienced mountain bikers to enjoy. The views are spectacular! The purpose-built visitor centre offers hot drinks, snacks, main meals, bike hire and a fully equipped shop. Well worth a visit!

For the latest thrill why not visit the Tree Top Adventure High Ropes Course. This is the highest challenging course in the country : It’s a truly amazing experience.

About Jackie or Nick Davies

We are an English family that has moved to the mountains of North Wales in search of rural life. We keep chickens, a dog, cats and have two teenage children. We lead a very simple life about 900 feet above sea level overlooking the menai straits , about 8 miles from the chalet. We used to live in Buckinghamshire and worked in London but craved the quiet removal from the hussle and bussle of London life. We bought the chalet to provide the very same escape to people who cannot or may not want to do it permanently, but everyone deserve at least one weeks break. 'A change is as good as a rest.'Come and recharge your batteries here in Wales.

Why Jackie or Nick Davies chose Gwynedd - Snowdonia

This property is in a fantastic location, in the centre of North Wales with tons to do for all ages, the waterfall is fabulous perhaps more so in the winter and the peace and quiet on the country park estate is wonderful. It is also heated which is an added bonus which enables it to be used all year round.

What makes this chalet unique

Its warm, cosy has a front garden with benefits of the beautiful waterfall view. everything is nearby but far enough away to keep the chalet tranquil. It has recently been refurbished to a high standard and we try very hard to keep it this way, all its profits are reinvested into keeping the chalet to a high quality.

Wonderful Place.

  • 5 of 5

Booked this place for the May Bank Holiday weekend and we're so glad we did. We'd never been to Caernarfon before or even heard of Glan Gwna so we didn't know what to expect but we had a fantastic time.

The chalet was great, nice and clean, plenty of room, everything we could possibly need and the location was peaceful and beautiful. It took about five minutes to walk from the chalet to The Poolside Bar and the play area, which was ideal for our four year old. The staff were brilliant on site and there's plenty to do in the surrounding areas to keep everyone entertained, the town centre was no more than a five minute drive away and is so pretty. Glan Gwna in general, is a great starting point to drive anywhere. We went to Porthmadog and Black Rock Sands beach and it only took 40 minutes. Beddgelert was 20 minutes away.

Jackie and Nick were great to deal with, payment was easy and instructions for the chalet and directions etc were emailed days before we were due to arrive.

As has already been stated, you do need a small supply of pounds coins for the electricity meter and I would also suggest taking a bath mat or an old towel for the bathroom floor, as it can get quite slippy. Also, if you're feeling a bit lazy of a morning and don't get showered until a bit later like we did, the hot water isn't that hot, as it's on a timer and comes on at 6am. It wasn't a problem though but just be aware.

Overall, I can honestly say that I'd recommend this to anyone. It is like a home away from home and my family and I hope to return very soon.

a great peaceful break

  • 5 of 5

what a wonderful place to stay the chalet is on a holiday park which has a shop, cafe, heated outdoor pool (which was closed after September) child's play area, beauty saloon and laundrette, and a bar which was a surprise, and only a 4 min drive into caernarfon with its castle and a great place to go crabbing with the kids. the chalet was clean and comfortable and all electric which you will need a supply of £1. coins but i used about £1. per day.

thank-you for a relaxing week away we will definitely be back

Glan Gwna is a lovely park very scenic and well maintained. Lakeside has a nice view.Glan Gwna is also very central for visiting most places in North Wales. There are some really nice restaurants in Caernarfon, Stones Bistro and Jakes Bistro being exceptional. Lakeside Chalet was fairly clean although basic and slightly dated. If staying in cold weather there was a lack of adequate heating facilities. I also found the lack of customer service in booking the chalet something I have not previously encountered when renting property.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your positive comments. We do actually have electric blankets, panel heaters, and an oil filled radiator in the chalet at all times and if staying in cold weather we offer to supply a 4.2 kw Gas fire.We also supply the gas for this at no extra charge. In the welcome pack in the chalet we do actually mention this and both of our mobile telephone numbers are supplied as is our home telephone number to contact us for any reason at any time. We actually met this couple just prior to them leaving and no mention of anything negative was made.We do strive to supply a satisfactory customer service but we really need to be made aware of any concerns as soon as possible in order for us to rectify them. This booking was made by e mail and all emails were responded to very quickly. They were also provided with all the information necessary and I am not quite sure in which way they believe that customer services lacked in booking the chalet.Perhaps they took offence at us turning up at the chalet at 10.30am in order to clean for the next guests. Guests are requested to vacate the chalet by 10am. The bathroom in the chalet is due to be totally refurbished in November 2011.
