Villa Lavande is a spacious well equipped modern property, tastefully designed to be be in-keeping with traditional local architecture. It has a great position on the domaine with it's large private south facing terrace and garden to the rear. It benefits from being close enough to historic Brantome (described as the Venice of Perigord) to be able to walk there for a meal or drink and yet it is set in a haven of tranquility. If you don't fancy cooking then pop across to the lovely restaurant a stones throw away from the domaine or stroll into Brantome for more choice. There is an underground car park to keep your car cool in Summer. Visit caves, chateau, historic villages, swimming lakes, rent canoes or bicycles, walk, swim in the local lakes, or just relax on a comfortable recliner in the garden.

About Anne and Marcus Ambler
We live in Berkshire with our 3 lovely boys and a very hectic life (probably the same as most other working families with young-ish children). We have always loved holidaying in France and finally got around to taking the plunge and buying a holiday property in one of our favourite destinations, the Dordogne in 2013. We wanted a house that could easily accommodate our 3 children and have plenty of space, inside and outside to keep them happy. This works for us and we hope it will for you too.

Why Anne and Marcus Ambler chose Brantôme En Périgord
We love this region because of the wealth of Chateau, medieval villages, the outdoor activities such as kayaking and cycling, the caves and cliff dwellings and of course the food. The climate and temperatures are also a big selling point, although nothing can ever be guaranteed. When we bought the property locals were keen to point out that they enjoy sitting out in their gardens/ terraces from late February until early November...this really appealed to us. We bought in mid-February and lunched in the warmth of the sun on our terrace every day we were down there. The average temperatures are as follows: 23*c in May 26*c in June 29*c in July and August 24*c in September 20*c in October

There are very few holiday rental homes which we have found that combine the benefits of a quiet and rural location with the ability to stroll into the bustling medieval town of Brantome...Villa Lavande does this beautifully. It is so lovely to have a fantastic French restaurant on the site of the domaine which can provide a welcome break from self catering. With our 3 boys the large parkland that our small domaine is set within is a real bonus because they can disappear safely and build dens, run about and generally tire themselves out without disturbing anyone else and giving us some free time to sit and enjoy a glass of wine or read a book.

Lovely villa situated in stunning area
Lovely villa on a complex with a pool for the children. It is situated a short distance from the stunning town of Brantome, a Jewell in the Dordogne. The villa is well equipped and suitable for a family of upto five. We liked it so much we came back for another vacation!

Great location and villa
Exceedingly well equipped, comfortable and spotless villa in a great location. The pictures do not do it justice! We had a super relaxing holiday. Lovely pool. So many beautiful places nearby to visit. Some really good restaurants in villages close by. Delightful short walk into charming Brantome. Lots of information provided in the villa. Everything thought of to ensure visitors have a great holiday. Highly recommend.

This was our second visit to Villa Lavande, and once again it was as clean, comfortable and lovely as ever! We really enjoyed the scenic walks down the back lanes through the fields to the delightful village of Brantome which has some very pretty restaurants. Brantome is a great base in the Dordogne and we had a fabulous week exploring the area. Would highly recommend!
There are a few man-made lake beaches within easy reach by car, St Estephe is one of these and is only 20-25 minutes away. It is lovely and has lots of activities and walks around the lake and a surprise for all mid-way around the lake!
There is also a close-by river beach at Lisle which has a lifeguard to keep an eye on adventurous children.
Within 5 minutes of the property there is a superb outdoor public pool in Champagnac de Belair which is ideal for all ages.
We would advise that a car is desirable, although Brantome is easily accessible by foot from the house.
By car: Approx 475m from Calais, 375m (6 hours) from Le Havre, and 269 miles from Caen
By Air: Angouleme airport - 33m, Bergerac airport - 38 m, Limoges airport - 43m, Bordeaux airport 90m
By Train: TVG from Paris to Angouleme, car rental available from Angouleme station or you can take a taxi.

It is a 15 minute walk to Brantome via footpaths and back lanes.
Perigueux is approximately 17 miles from Brantome and has museums, cobbled narrow streets to explore, a cathedral, Roman remains etc.
Bourdeilles and St Jean de Cole are within 15 minutes drive and are both exceptionally pretty villages with imposing chateau.
Closeby the famous La Grotte de Villars is a maze of 13km of underground caves and tunnels and has spectacular stalagmites and one of the rarest examples of cave painting.
Whatever you like from a holiday, you will probably find it from our villa, whether it be historical France (try the fairytale chateau and gardens of Jumilhac, or the imposing Hautefort Chateau, set in 99 acres of parkland, or the historic capital of the Dordogne, Perigueux), or French markets and gastronomic treats (Brantome has a lovely market on Fridays and there are some fantastic places to eat in the town), or swimming in lakes (there are 3 lakes within striking distance which have beaches and lifeguards), or having a more active time (it is easy to hire canoes at either Brantome or Bourdeilles and spend a very pleasant day canoeing down the Dronne river passing cliff caves, old mills and beautiful rural France), equally there are way-marked walks in great abundance and their are route leaflets at the villa that you are welcome to borrow.
Brantome is an ideal base for recreational cyclists with many way-marked trails and 3 great off-road trails called Voie Vertes (old railway tracks and canal towpaths that have been converted for pedestrian or cycle use) within easy striking distance:
The Thiviers-Saint-Pardoux-la-Riviere Voie Verte is a 17km stretch of converted 19th century railway line that links Saint-Pardoux-la-Rivière to Thiviers via Milhac-de-Nontron and Saint-Jean-de-Côle. It’s great for summer cycling as it’s well shaded by oaks, pines and acacias.
Voire Verte des Berges de l'Isle is a 15km ride crossed through Perigueux between Trélissac and Marsac-sur-Isle, offering a paved surface along the river through the heart of historic Perigueux. It’s a wonderful urban route that also links some of the city’s key parks, gardens, and sports venues.
Chalus to Oradour-sur-Vagres Voie Verte is a 13km route through the conservation area of the Parc Naturel Régional Périgord-Limousin.
Cycle hire is widely available.
The villa has a long list of attractions that you may feel like trying.
Booking Notes: £150 deposit is required at time of booking, balance payment due in full 6 week prior to arrival. We are sorry, but we regret that no pets are allowed. Changeover Day: Changeover day is Saturday during high season but out of season we can usually accommodate other requests. Arrival should ideally be after 4pm and departure by 10am Notes on prices: For any other dates please contact me for a price. For rental periods over 2 weeks we are happy to provide a 5% discount. If you want to stay for less than one week then we can calculate the cost on a daily rate but please be aware that the cleaning and linen costs will still need to be taken into account regardless of whether you stay for 4 nights or 7 nights. Bookings taken prior to May and after October may be subject to an additional electricity charge of £50 due to excess heating charges that are incurred.
