Monkswell Park dates back to the 1920s, and is described in Pevsner's Buildings of England as 'The most distinguished property tucked into the slopes overlooking Hope Cove with wings angled to create a protected terrace with veranda facing the sea.' With fabulous sea views over Lyme Bay Monkswell Park benefits from an extremely rural and quiet, picturesque cliff top location, but is only one and a half miles from Torquay town centre, and approximately twenty miles from the historic city of Exeter. There are excellent local shops and restaurants nearby, and a sandy beach within half a mile of the property. There is also 'near-private' access to a pebble beach from the one and a half acre lawn garden. The nearest railway station is Torquay although Newton Abbot is only seven miles away. The nearest airport is Exeter

Beautiful and Charming Cottage
Delightful, Idyllic with lovely views over the garden towards the sea with the birds singing was
out of this world, perhaps this is why we have had more than one holiday here.
the Cottage is so delightful and kept so clean with everything you need with the welcome you get from the owners we feel like we are family.
Beautiful house with great character and fabulous views.
We spent a fabulous Christmas break at Monkswell Park Cottage. Jenny and Julian were very helpful before and during our stay. As they live next door to the cottage they are very convenient should you have a problem , which luckily we didn’t. They decorated the house for Christmas and we felt very much at home. The house has a beautiful lawned garden with views of the sea and a private steeply stepped access to a little cove. There are at least 2 very nice restaurants within walking distance. We would love to visit in the summer and hope to return. I would highly recommend staying here.
Location, location, location
The house is beautifully situated. Breakfasting on the terrace with the view to the English Channel is stunning. House is nicely furnished. Hosts are welcoming.
But, be aware that none of the rooms in the accommodation have any view to speak of. The beautiful terrace room pictured is part of the main house - not the annexe. The best view of the sea is from a landing window and the second best is from the bedroom without the en-suite bath.

The property is well maintained. Has everything you need. Garden and view are super. WiFi in one house was fine, the other house a bit less.

We stayed in the cottage August 5th-12th. Four adults and three children.
This house is absolutely perfect for large groups or families. The three bedrooms were plenty big enough. One main bedroom has the amazing views of the gardens and sea. The second main bedroom has an en-suite. The house has everything you need in every room. Despite the owners living in the building next to this cottage, you never feel encroached on or uncomfortable. The owners were always a pleasure to speak to and always around if you needed anything.
The garden is absolutely huge with the most amazing panoramic views of the sea. There is plenty of benches and sun loungers available to use. The house is situated down a private road away from any traffic. So it was lovely to be away from any traffic noise. Lovely and peaceful.
There are only two things that could improve this property:
1 - Toilet tissue to be provided. We never thought to bring any with us. Luckily our friends did.
2 - The owners should consider installing a hot tub in the courtyard or garden. This would be amazing. Especially with those views to take in at the same time 😊 They could also get away with charging a lot more then!
Overall, I would definitely recommend this property to anyone. The house and views are beautiful, you have everything you need, the location couldn't be better for local towns, nearest shop and pub is a two minute drive away and the owners are lovely humble people who I envy waking up to that view every day!
Sorry about the toilet tissue...of course we provide it...must have been forgotten, you only had to ask.
Hot tub...indeed swimming pool...has been contemplated but too many "health and safety" issues became apparent.

Monkswell Park is located on the South West Coastal Path, benefits from an extremely rural and quiet picturesque cliff top location and yet is only one and a half miles from the centre of Torquay. It is and just half a mile from the nearest public sandy beach complete with it's own beach cafe', and there is access to a near-private pebbled beach from the one and a half acre lawned garden, though please note the steps down to the beach are steep, can be strenuous, and may be dangerous for unaccompanied children.

Monkswell Park is situated right on the coastal path for walking, and within easy reach of Dartmoor, the historic towns of Dartmouth and Exeter, many tourist attraction, and recreational and sporting facilities, including; swimming, picturesque harbours and marinas around Torbay.
