Idyllic Country House near South Downs National Park, Hurstpierpoint, Brighton & Beaches - Peaceful Setting nr. Hickstead, Popular Area for Walking, Cycling, Golf, Horse Riding, Family Days Out
- English, Spanish
We have lived here for over 25 years. We travelled extensively before settling here and absolutely love the area for it's beautiful countryside, lovely walks, lovely pubs and restaurants and country club but with easy access to vibrant Brighton and the sea.
Ruth purchased this House in 1996
Why Ruth chose Hassocks
We fell in love and with the cottage and couldn't believe we had found such a beautiful home. It has a wonderful garden with adjoining footpaths leading to the South Downs and it is great to be able to go for great walks without needing to use the car. We are also very well located with London an hour away by train and close to Brighton and Gatwick. The area has everything from beautiful country side, and pretty villages, close to the sea, the buzz of Brighton and so many activities - tennis, swimming, golf, riding, sailing, windsurfing, canoeing.
What makes this House unique
Walking on the South Downs with the great network of footpaths is one of the great pleasures of staying here. The local villages are a great pleasure to visit and enjoy their pretty cafés and interesting shops. There are some wonderful restaurants and cosy pubs in the surrounding area and a fantastic country club and golf club nearby. The short drive to Brighton where there are great walks/bike rides along the front, sailing at Brighton Marina or dinghy sailing and windsurfing at Hove Lagoon.Brighton has an abundance of cafes and restaurants, the atmospheric Lanes, theatre, cinemas,it's own wheel, and the pier. An amazing weekend for my nieces wedding. This property is beautiful and in a lovely position to stay for family occasions. Lots of bathrooms, comfy beds. Lovely grounds. Kitchen well appointed and stocked. Thank you Ruth for the lovely tray of goodies, a nice surprise and for making sure our stay was going smoothly. Can highly recommend this property.
Great place for a weekend with friends
A lovely house with plenty of space and in a very pretty setting. The house is well equipped and the owner was very helpful. The only small downside was no WiFi connection even when owner tried to help by providing a booster. Would recommend as a great place to stay
It was lovely to have Sue and family stay here during her daughters wedding, they were charming guests, very friendly and a pleasure to have staying here. It was unfortunate that our internet was down during their weekend stay here, it is the first time we have not had internet during a guest's stay. Fortunately we do have 4G coverage in this location. We would welcome Sue back any time and highly recommend them as guests.
Really enjoyed our stay at The Mill, just the most luxurious, comfortable and scenic property and location....the gardens, the surrounding area and the comfort of the accomodation just made for the perfect mini break....really did not want to leave and go back to work!....A+++++
A beautiful house, very well equipped, in a beautiful setting, with delighful hosts.
This "cottage" - actually a superb six bedroom mansion - is an ideal location for our extended weekend of family reunion. Although it looks old and delightful, and is in a supberb country location, the accommodation was very modernised, and everything available to ensure that the weekend will be remmebered for years to come.
It's only 30 minutes from Gatwick, and there are lots of amenities within easy reach. We recommend the Ginger Fox pub for superb food, and the Crossways Fish and Chips in Hurstpierpoint. If you have young children, as we diid, the extensive grounds were great to run around in, with animals in the nearby fields, and all the children (from 1 year old to 45!!) enjoyed Washbrook Farm nearby.as a real treat.
Our hosts were extremely helpful. Nothing was too much trouble.
We made a brilliant choice!
A delightful country house in a beautiful setting
We hosted a family house party to celebrate my husband's birthday. There were 9 of us staying with ages ranging from 2 to 72, and 6 friends joined us for a celebratory dinner party on one evening. The Mill proved to be the ideal venue as the bedrooms are situated in 3 areas of the house, all with their own ensuite bathroom or one nearby. The living space is big enough for 10 people, and the property has a big garden with a shed, full of outdoor toys and sporting equipment. There are lovely walks from the house and the South Downs are only a few miles away. Ruth was a thoughtful and helpful host and found us an excellent caterer to cook a meal for us.
The perfect home from home.
The bridal party - bride, bridesmaids, an usher and mother and father of the bride - stayed at The Mill the weekend of the wedding at Pangdean Old Barn. It was the perfect place, with plenty of space (and bathrooms!) for all the preparations and in a beautiful location. Although we did try croquet, we did not take full advantage of the many facilities so may return one day.....
We have two footpaths adjoining the house for lovely walks around the beautiful countryside and to local villages and the South Downs.
Beaches are around 20 minutes by car, Brighton and Hove seafront or Shoreham beach, kite surfing, wind surfing, surfing, water skiing, canoeing or just swimming and sunbathing. Walking and cycling along the promenade and right along to Rottingdean at foot of cliffs or along the cliff top is great.
The Lanes in Brighton are wonderful for shopping and browsing, there are many outstanding restaurants, theatres, cinemas, museums including The Pavilion in Brighton.
