Great location and house!
Beautiful house with plenty of space! We would have liked less belongings from the owners-as there were not enough drawers or closets for renters in bedrooms and bathrooms; it felt a little too “lived in.” Also, instructions on departure procedures would help renters.
Overall, though, it was a great week!!! Would definitely like to go back!!!
Looks can be deceiving
The location and the design of the home was beautiful, however there were more cons that pros. The home is not wheelchair accessible, there is nor garage door opener for renter to use, and the front door key was extremely tricky to work. The home was full of comb webs and dust. The lightbulbs in the kitchen were covered with grease and dead bugs. The pots and pans in the kitchen were not organized and the majority had to be precleaned before using because the had grime or dust on them. The exterior furniture, if not broken, was dirty and had to be cleaned in order to use. The grill on the deck was extremely dirty upon our arrival and it was not functioning, even though the homeowner it would work. There was no exhaust fan for the stove in the kitchen. This made it challenging to cook throughout the week. There was no umbrella for the deck, despite being shown in photos on the listing, The wifi reception was extremely poor and could not make phone calls, send emails, or text messages while in the house. There was not ventilation for the dryer in the laundry room which made the whole main floor extremely warm, which didn't help considering the extremely high temperatures. The water pressure was extremely poor and the tub on the lower level did not drain properly. The closet and drawer space in several rooms and in the garage entry way was taken up by the owners person items. The bulbs in the ceiling fans in several rooms were burnt out. The water filter and ice maker in the refrigerator was broken and would not make ice or filter water for the whole week we were there. Therefore, we had to continue to buy bottled water and bags of ice. There were pieces of exterior siding and interior were damages. The exterior had a nail exposed which was not safe for a toddler. There was one baby gate for three stair cases, but it was broken. Finally, the homeowner accessed the house on a Sunday afternoon unannounced to mow and trim the lawn. The home itself was beautiful and would be awesome if it was maintained better. The location is great and the Homemade pies by Nikky down the road is definitely something you should try. It is close to several shops and restaurants. A quick 20 minute drive to Stowe and a little over an hour to Burlington. The lake is peaceful and not overly populated. The state park in 2 minutes away and offers several activities for a day fee. Unfortunately we could take advantage of it because of the extreme heat. Lake Elmore is beautiful!
These guests were unhappy from the moment they walked in and found that we do not have air conditioning. I guess they did not mention this because our listing states that we have ceiling fans and lots of windows, but no a/c. I wish they had decided to leave because they were miserable all week and nothing we did placated them. 1. We designed the house to be wheelchair accessible in case we need that as we age. Our cousin gets around fine in her chair so I do not understand what problems they encountered. 2. The gas grill works. We explained that the igniter is broken but you can start the grill by turning on the gas and lighting a match. We also have a charcoal grill. 3. The fridge and ice maker work fine. The manufacturer included a display that appears at regular intervals to suggest changing the filter. The water in the tap & fridge is fine to drink. 4. Wi-fi is usually fine. We have left a phone number for tech support if there are problems. Cell phone service is poor in the mountains, which is why we have a land line. 5. We do not have a stove vent because we like to look out at the water as we cook. This means that grease collects on the light fixtures and there may well be dust and a few bugs on them. The house is generally very clean every week. We organize the kitchen periodically, but guests have their own ideas about where things go. 6. The house is rented every week so we have to mow while guests are there. I am sure we would have heard complaints from these guests if we did not mow. This is a beautiful, well maintained home. These are the whiniest guests we have had in almost ten years of rentals.
Wonderful Family Weekend on the Lake
Very lovely house!!! Perfect for a graduation weekend for my daughter from Johnson State College. Everything was exactly as advertised. Owners were very responsive to questions. Highly recommend!!!
Beautifully renovated home on a pristine lakefront
The home had everything we needed and then some for a group of 10. Awesome location, on a beautiful lake. Will definitely try to stay again.
Gorgeous view, easy access to Stowe and enough space for everyone. I would definately recommend this home to anyone looking to stay local! Beautiful home on all three levels.
We had fun, but there were some things that could have made it better. I called the owner. Who knows
This home had great space and yet there were a number of things that could have been improved upon. There are too many to mention, but in short, it seemed to us that the owner may not care what we think. She was surprised that we found so many things "wrong", so maybe they will improve. We had to clean out the fridge before we put our things in there. There was a wet load of laundry in the washing machine. There was not a sponge, or dish towels or detergent for dishes. We had no idea how to work the TV or the gas fireplace. I suggested a laminated Welcome Letter with useful information for us renters. The space of the house was great and it was clean. Otherwise, a list of to do's.
I am so sorry that this renter's experience was not entirely satisfactory. I spoke to him about the items he mentioned and took them to heart. I care very much about what my guests experience. This is my dream home. My husband and I designed it and built it for our summer retirement home and I want guests to love it as much as I do.
I was surprised that he found so many things wrong, because we do usually keep the house clean and well maintained. We do not usually leave wet laundry in the washing machine. There should have been a scrubby and some dish towels in the kitchen. We do usually leave a note by each TV explaining how to use them. I had not thought to put a note about the gas fireplace; we keep a remote on the table and you just have to click it on. I will keep this item in mind when I re-write the note.
Cleaning has been an issue for previous guests. In response, I have switched housekeepers several times. The current housekeepers worked for me in my bed and breakfast in Montpelier for most of my 26 years in business. They do a great job. I mentioned the items that this guest discussed and they are going to address them.
Close to Stowe and skiing.
