The cottage has been renovated to an exceptionally high standard, There is an extensive living area that captures the sun all day long and opens out into the landscaped garden - its peaceful atmosphere makes it a perfect spot to unwind with a glass in hand whilst your children play in the child friendly garden. The living room has a log-burner that brings instant warmth and cosiness to the room. The room has a mixture of contemporary and unusual furnishings as well as more traditional features such as a wooden floor and picture rails, bringing a quirky stylish character to the home. The contemporary kitchen has all of top of the line appliances for all your household needs so you have more time to spend with all the family. The toilet is separate to the bathroom and both have been refurbished to the highest standard. Natural light streams into the bathroom which is equipped with a bath and powerful shower. There are 3 beautiful double-rooms, each with their own character including features such as original fireplaces and garden views. The Master bedroom holds a King Sized bed where you can get a comfortable nights sleep after a day full of activities. Top of the line appliances for all your household needs so you have more time to spend with all the family. Truly a Home from Home set in a peaceful friendly town.
The property was located in the perfect location very close to the coast and the main centre of whitstable. It was easy to find and has well proportioned rooms. Fully equipped with everything you would want or need and spotlessly clean. I have friends in Whitstable and would definitely rent this accommodation again. A great find. Dominic
We stayed here with our children and their partners for the weekend to celebrate my husbands 70th. Breakaway Cottage was the perfect place to stay in the lovely town of Whitstable. The owner contacted me before the stay to talk through everything and made us feel welcome before we arrived. The bedrooms are a good size and everyone thought the beds really comfortable. Just about everything you needed to cook was provided in the kitchen including a nespresso machine. The house has lots of very good art, furniture and pottery which make it that little bit different . We loved the wood burning stove in the living area. I have to say this was one of the best equipped cottages we have stayed in and would recommend it to anyone who wanted to stay in the area.
Had a lovely holiday in Whitstable. Cottage ideally situated for harbour, beach and all the amenities Cottage was spacious and well equipped with really comfy beds and a nice back garden.
Didn't need to use the car very often which was good considering parking at times was an issue.
Not sure about having a filing cabinet in the 3rd bedroom as a chest of drawers.
The stairs are steep and narrow and would have benefitted with a hand rail especially for young children. Bathroom and toilet were downstairs which the website doesn't mention and there is no lock on the toilet door. The website also mentions that there is a stair gate available but on arrival could not get this to fit as it was too wide for the stairs. Rafel has assured me he will remove this from the website has it is misleading if you come with young children. The lounge/dining room floor could do with a clean. Very dirty socks!
Despite the comments above we had a lovely stay in a lovely area and was luck with the weather.
Rafel was also very prompt in returning damage deposit.
The cottage is lovely and is very well located for both the high street (and bars, restaurants etc) and the harbour / beach - both of which are only a few minutes walk.
The cottage is decorated very well and had everything we needed.
If we are ever back in the area, we will certainly book again!
The HomeAway description is misleading; we booked to stay for a family weekend with grandparents and a 1 year old. Unfortunately Breakwater Cottage is not grandparent or child friendly. The stairs are steep, no handrail, dangerous when carrying a child and far too steep to let a child try and navigate. Bathroom and separate toilet are both downstairs which should be mentioned in the property description since this is not convenient in the middle of the night, especially with steep stairs. Kitchen is basic. Furnishings and décor while pleasant and to be expected in a rental property show signs of wear and tear. Not the “exceptionally high standard” that the overview states. The first night we arrived it was cold and the boiler had been turned off. We had to keep our coats on for dinner which made things rather uncomfortable. Finally the house had warmed up by the next day but not want you want for a comfortable first nights’ stay. The beds are extremely comfortable however the blinds in all the bedrooms are very thin, they provide privacy but do not block out the light. Coupled with the streetlight right outside the master bedroom made it very hard to put a baby to bed in broad daylight and a very early start when the sun came up at 5am.
We ended up leaving a night early as the living space is more functional than comfortable and since it’s hard to go out in the evening with a 1yr old we decided to leave for home comforts.
Following our disappointing stay, I received a call from the owner to tell me that his cleaner noticed one of the slats in the living room blind was broken and he charged two thirds of the refundable damage deposit. The owner was very abrupt on the phone and said we should have identified any broken items when we arrived, like when you hire a car. If we’d noted every scratch and stain there would have been a list as long as your arm and we can honestly say that we didn’t touch the blinds, let alone break them. I would hope that both guests and owners would be honest about damage and refundable deposits but in this case I am left feeling cheated out of money and this has put me off renting a property with a damage deposit in future as it seems like a way for the owner to inflate the price of the stay through unjust charges.
Overall a disappointing and costly experience.
We loved our stay at Breakwater Cottage with our one year old daughter. It was in a perfect location, the road was so quiet yet right in the middle of town so within walking distance to everything we needed. The cottage was smart, bed was comfy, bath was huge! Lovely place, would recommend to anyone. Just a shame the weather wasn't warm enough to use the lovely garden too!
Breakwater Cottage is located in the heart of the conservation area in Whitstable. The much lauded 'Sportsman' restaurant (Michelin starred) is a short taxi-ride away in neighbouring Seasalter. Canterbury with it's spectacular cathedral is 7 miles away - there is a bike route from Whitstable to Canterbury and bikes can easily be hired in Whitstable.
