About Ailsa Williams
We are sisters who bought and named our beach house, 'Valentyne', in memory of our much loved Father. We live in Berkshire and Somerset respectively with our families and wanted to have somewhere to spend family holidays close to the beach.
Ailsa Williams purchased this House in 2012
Why Ailsa Williams chose Porthtowan
The stunning Cornish coastline and beautiful beaches in the area made it an easy decision for us to buy our beach house. There are so many villages and towns within easy reach of Porthtowan and the area provides a plethora of activities, walks and areas of natural beauty - there really is something for everyone!
What makes this House unique
The fact that you are able to park your car and not use it for a few days really appealed to us as Porthtowan beach is literally a 5 minute walk from the beach house. Local amenities are also all within a 5-7 minute walk. Porthtowan is a lovely small surfing village situated on the North Coast which provides some of the best surfing conditions in the country. Our beach house has a contemporary feel with extensive use of wood and glass in the design. The sloping Sedum roof gives it a unique appearance and you will find it is fully equipped with all modern appliances ensuring all your needs are catered for, for a fun, relaxing and memorable holiday.
Tastefully decorated, clean, well equipped and good location.
On arrival we were not sure what to expect. As we opened the door, my worries disappeared. I am very fussy about clean places to stay. This was not only clean but well decorated. It incoparates its beach location well. The house is well equipt with a full working kitchen. The washing machine and dishwasher made life easy. If you go to the nearby beach, it's a few minutes walk. The house has everything you need for the beach including wind breaks, ball games, a beach mat and even a beach bag. If the weather isn't good, there are ample family games and dvd's. Both my children had a bedroom each and it was nice to have an en suit in our room like a home from home. There is also a hair dryer. There are a couple of beach side shops for purchasing surf clothes, shoes, boards etc... and a little gift shop. There is a lovely little bar and an ice cream shop. We had to drive around to explore, but its a good base to travel from. The beach was clean and not too crowded. It has life guards there too. For the stay I would recomend taking a few bits such as wash pods for the dishwasher and washing machine. There are supermarkets on your way to local hot spots like St. Ives. The fridge had a welcome pack of eggs, butter, milk, bacon, orange juice and there was also a loaf of bread. This was a lovely touch and we could relax. There is a small washing line to the back of the property and a clothes horse and Ironing board in the downstairs cupboard. I would recomend this holiday home. It has just about everything you could need and I would suggest minimal packing as its alll there. One tip is to take your combination number to access the key. We forgot however, there is someone on site at certain times to help with any issues. We would recommend The Victory inn at Towen Cross for a lovely meal. It gets booked up quickly. It looks rustic but the food and staff are lovely. It's five minutes in the car. There are some identical properties opposite this one ( not too close) and the owners have fitted blinds for privacy if needed. There is a shower near the car park to wash off the beach and it only takes thirty seconds to walk to your car. Having seen the other properties, we all felt this one was superior.
Fabulous, comfortable and welcoming house
Porthtowan itself is a friendly, relaxed place. The waves were great for body boarding, clifftop walks are breathtaking . Everything we could need was in the house and in a secluded spot. I definitely recommend this place
comfortable, generous and family atmosphere
We really enjoyed Valentyne and the atmosphere of Porthtowan very much! When you are looking for a relaxing holiday with no classique tourism entertainment but with a beautiful beach and nature, great waves and lovely atmosphere, you are perfectly right at Valentyne and Porthtowan!
Thank you very much, Aisla and Andrea for sharing your home with us! Valentyne makes it easy, to feel home from the first minute you arrive.
Anne & Co from Switzerland
A wonderful property that is ideally situated near the sea.
We had a great time in the beach house. It is in an idyllic setting very close to the beach but in a small valley/cove hidden from view. The house has everything that you would need including game's for the children and plenty of Tupperware, cups, rucksacs and a windbreak for the beach. We'd recommend the cafe next to the beach and schooners and Cornish pizza in st Agnes.
Beautiful beach house
Absolutely loved staying in this house. Perfect get away for a week. Everything we needed was there! The location was perfect right beside the beach, felt safe and welcoming. Will definetly be back!
Fantastic beach house in a fantastic location
This is our second visit to Valentyne as we so love the house and Porthtowan, a much undiscovered corner of Cornwall. The house is beautiful, so comfortable and well equipped with lovely nautical touches. It was also very cosy even at the end of October, we only needed to put on the heating twice in the evening.
I had forgotten there is a welcome pack of milk, butter, eggs, bacon, bread and oj on arrival which is great.
We had a super week, kids and hubby even went body boarding at the end of Oct! Sea temp 15 oC! Full wet suits of course. The surf shop shuts at the end of the Oct half term and this is the end of the lifeguard beach watch season so only for hardened surfers after this I presume!. A huge bonus is being able to walk from the house to the beach (about a 10 min walk) in your wetsuit if necessary, and there are outdoor showers in the car park next to house to rinse off on return. We have had some lovely coastal walks from the house and a bit further north from Constance bay around the very scenic Trevose Head. If you are still feeling energetic the coast to coast bike ride is great and you can hire bikes from the bike barn on the road between Porthtowan and Portreath, it is 16miles return along a disused railway line (16 miles from the bike barn, 22 miles from the start in Portreath).
The weather was beautiful too, warm sunny and dry, perfect walking weather.
There are some decent local eateries, not forgetting the famous 'Blue Bar' overlooking the beach. There is also a great range of restaurants in neighbouring St. Agnes.
