Situated in the borders town of Melrose, this beautiful stone built townhouse offers unique, spacious accommodation. Upper Tweedmount is on a quiet cul de sac in the most sought after location in the picturesque village of Melrose.
The big plus is the location -Easy walking in under 5 minutes to the River tweed and open country side or to the pub/restaurants of Melrose, without driving.
This is the perfect property for larger group celebrations with family or friends.Comfortable large rooms with real fire places and original detailing make the perfect atmosphere that everyone can enjoy.
Great eat in kitchen with big farmhouse style table. Huge drawing room with bay window and a view of the Eildon Hills.
There are 5 bedrooms, plus extra sitting room (bedroom 6) & 2 bathrooms.
A private enclosed garden at the back with BBQ is ideal for relaxing whilst admiring the views.
Our overall impression of the property was ok, but one big disadvantage is that the property is upstairs. It does not say anywhere on the summary and description of the property that it is an upstairs flat, which is quite deceiving.
We came on holiday when I was in my ninth month of pregnancy and the stairs were particularly difficult, as they are quite steep.
In addition to that, the property description says that there is an enclosed garden, which is true, but the owner fails to mention that in order to get to the garden, one has to go out the frontdoor and walk around to the back, so it is not ideal to allow young children to go out on their own.
Other then that, the property is very large and located in a very nice area.
We had an enjoyable stay at Tweedmount, aided considerably by the wonderful weather all week. The advert, however, does not inform you that the accommodation is on the first and second floor, accessed by a very long and steep staircase, which was a challenge, to say the least, for the person for whom the celebratory week's booking was made..our 90 year old mother! So, effectively, the accommodation is a two-floored apartment.
That apart, the kitchen was extremely well kitted out with crockery, pans, glasses etc and the sheets and bedding were of good quality. The feel of the property was of a delightful fading grandeur and it was overall a good experience. It was short walk into Melrose, which is a lovely small town, and has great views of the Eildon Hills from the lounge. 24 hour Supermarkets at nearby Gala were useful.
Because the price was good for the Easter week I have given a 4* rating rather than the intended 3*.
