Lovely holiday home, extensive sea views, beachside garden, parking, dog and child friendly

The Net Loft has lovely sea and countryside views and is warmed in winter by a log burner and night storage heaters. It has a large living area and 3 bedrooms. It retains many original features. Portmellon is a small beach community, with a family friendly pub serving local beer and family meals. 15 minutes walk away is Mevagissey, a 14th century working Cornish fishing village. With its fishing boats, shops, galleries and restaurants lining the narrow cobbled streets, it provides a taste of the real Cornwall. The Net Loft is on the top floor of a pre Napoleonic building. The building is set into a cliff and there is a climb up into the property from the private sea facing garden at the front making it unsuitable for those with limited mobility.

About Katharine Bailey

Katharine and Trevor Bailey bought Headland View (now the Net Loft) in May 2012 at auction with a plan to refurbish and re-launch it for the 2013 holiday season. It was already let for the 2012 holiday season and so they were not able to start their "hands on" refurbishment until October 2012. In January stage one of the refurbishment was complete just in time for a re-visit from the BBC programme "Homes Under The Hammer". Kate is an artist and Trevor is a pilot involved with flying and displaying classic/vintage aircraft . They live in Cheltenham and bought Headland view as their holiday home so that during low season periods they can indulge their love of the sea and of walking their two dogs - who both love their coastal walks and a daily swim.

Why Katharine Bailey chose Mevagissey

We loved the beach side location and the peace and quiet. It is also useful to have car parking and it was important for us to have a garden with a sea view for al fresco dining. The local pub has proved to be a great place for getting to know the locals and for dinner when we just don't want to cook. We like Mevagissey because it is a very pretty working Cornish fishing harbour and less touristy than many other local seaside villages. We very much enjoy the access to fresh fish and some very good local restaurants.

What makes this apartment unique

When we were looking for a property we listed sea views, parking, two bathrooms and a sunny garden as essentials and this was the one property that ticked all of these boxes for us.

During our refurbishment in we ensured that the apartment has the ingredients needed for a comfortable and relaxing stay. Ideal for anyone in need of a seaside break and is suitable for families, couples or friends. The garden is south facing and lovely for sunny breakfasts and barbecues. The kitchen has sea views and open this and the open plan living make cooking in this new kitchen a real joy. The beach is just across the road from the bottom of the garden and when the tide is out provides a great play area. The sandy beach is gently shelving making it suitable for paddling and swimming. Outside: Private garden with lawn and seating areas, sun deck, garden furniture and barbecue. Parking for two cars behind the property. It is permissible to park in the passing place close to the property entrance for loading and unloading only. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Linen and a bath towel per guest plus hand towels in bathroom are included and, the property is thoroughly cleaned during each changeover. During longer stays you are welcome to a weekly clean by request. Other: BT internet, "iluv" - Ipad, Iphone, Ipod and MP3 docking station for playing your own music

Lovely position

This apartment is in a beautiful position. Sea views galore and lovely coastal walks.

The apartment itself is nice, it’s big, light but very very hot in the summer. However it’s far from 5* currently. The check in is very late being 4PM, we rent cottages every year and have never checked in later than 2PM. The reason for this being that the house keeper is snowed under with Work. I asked the question if it were ready earlier could someone inform us but this wasn’t a possibility. We arrived in portmellon at 1PM and went into the pub next door to find the house keeper in there, clearly finished her cleaning....! I do hope that this was just poor communication and not that we were not welcome earlier. Once we were in the appartment all seemed well. As the week went on it became apparent that it wasn’t very clean at all. In the main bedroom behind the bed was what looked like paint chipped off the wall and a lot of dust, this was Also in main living room. There was black mold in the shower room. The cushions on sofa were filthy, it goes on. Be careful if you take dogs, there’s a very low wall in garden that they can easily pop over and out of the garden. The pub is awful, dirty, not friendly at all, at one point their fridge had broken so the only option was warm beer.... nothing much was done about this whilst we were there anyway. I would certainly not eat in there. It’s a shame as I’m pretty sure if they got their act together the pub would be thriving! We would definitely have used it a lot. Overall I do think this place is lovely but some measures need to be taken to make it 5*.

Portmellon hideaway with stunning sea views

Delightful beachside property overlooking Portmellon Beach. The Net Loft is on the top floor of a large building so the views are amazing as it is perched above the beach. It is a light, bright, airy and beautifully decorated apartment. The main living space has plenty of room, a well equipped kitchen complete with dishwasher, two sofas and a log burner. It would be a restful and relaxing space no matter what the time of year. We were two families staying in the property, 3 adults and 3 kids, there was plenty of room for us all. Beds were really comfortable and bathrooms sufficient for everyone. It was brilliant to have a garden with all we needed for outdoor dining and BBQ's. The kids appreciated the crabbing nets, buckets and spades too. Given the fact the property is high up you need to climb several flights of steps up to the property. For us that was no problem and we had the benefit of beautiful sea views. The property is just across the road from Portmellon beach, only a minute away!! Portmellon is a quiet and restful place, pub next to us we perfect for a sundowner after a busy day. Beach is great for kids, safe and sandy with plenty of rock pools to explore. If you are looking for a bit more activity walk about 20 mins into Mevagissey for great places to eat, drink, shop and watch the world go by. Highly recommend a visit to The Lost Gardens of Heligan and Lanhydrock (National Trust). Don't miss Fish and Chips in Fowey. A perfect Cornwall holiday rental, can highly recommend.

Excellent location and view.

Very clean and beautifully presented. Facilities were excellent. The only down side was the shower didn't drain very well and you were left standing in water. Still excellent property.

Stunning spot

Communication was excellent with owner prior to our stay. She made everything easy including directions, arrival instructions and a thoughtful welcome pack with essentials.

Everything was clean and although the steps are steep the accommodation is all on the same level. Furniture is comfortable and the views are absolutely stunning. We will be back! :)

Each winter we do a tidy up and a bit of a redecorate. This winter we plan to do more to the property particularly the master bedroom which has been subject to extensive external work to try and prevent any water ingress. The property is very old and as it is right beside the sea it is a constant battle but well worth it.. Kind regards Kate

Location Information: The Net Loft is based in Portmellon Cove. The beach is family friendly and provides a safe environment for paddling and for swimmers. It also has a local pub. The village of Mevagissey is a 15 minute walk away. Featuring numerous pubs, shops, cafes and restaurants. It is also one of the few working harbours in this part of Cornwall. Within a 10 minute drive are Gorran Haven (another family friendly beach), Hemmick Beach (beautiful and unspoilt) and Caerhays Beach. Other places to visit within an hour are St. Mawes, Padstow (great for hiring bikes to explore the Camel Trail), Newquay, Wadebridge, Falmouth, Truro and Watergate Bay. We’re ideally situated for exploring both the North and South coasts. The Eden Project is nearby, around a 20 minute drive away. The Lost Gardens of Helligan (including the excellent Lobbs Farm Shop which sells a wide range of local, organic produce) is only a 10 minute drive away.

Notes on prices:
Prices are for the property per week in UK Pounds. Email the owner to get prices for shorter breaks. Up to two well behaved dogs are welcome. There is an additional charge of £25 per dog. Dogs are restricted to the living area and are not permitted in the bedrooms.
