About Esther Dodd
We are a married couple living in Manchester. We have 2 grown-up sons, our elder son is married and lives in Abu Dhabi and our younger son lives in Manchester. We have owned Mount Cottage for 9 years and for the first 5 years we kept it solely for personal use. After many requests from friends about the possibility of renting the cottage for holidays we decided to offer our delightful country retreat through Owners Direct for others to enjoy as well.
Esther Dodd purchased this Cottage in 2008
Why Esther Dodd chose Wray-with-Botton
After owning a caravan for 5 years in this area, which we both love for its peaceful and relaxing effects, we decided to buy this cottage nearby so that we could reap the benefits throughout the whole year whereas the caravan site closed during the winter. Winter produces fantastic scenes with snow on the hills and frost on the hedgerows. The wild spring and summer flower displays along the hedgerows and in the fields are a joy and in autumn there are sloes, blackberries and rose hips aplenty to gather for gin and jam making. Walk a short distance uphill from the cottage and you can see the sea at Morecambe and the spectacular mountains of the Lake District. A rarely used bridleway runs past the cottages and into the field beyond and there are many public footpaths all round the area.
What makes this Cottage unique
The cottage is located 10 miles east of J34 of the M6, through delightful countryside. Lancaster is an easy 14 miles from the cottage and Lake Windermere is a scenic 45 minute drive. The cottage is 1 of 9 properties that were originally converted in 1987 from farm buildings into holiday accommodation. The cottages are set back from the road and are accessed via a driveway which ensures a quiet and relaxing atmosphere where only the sounds of wild birds and animals can be heard. Over the past 30 years most of the cottages have been bought as permanent residences. As we have spent most of our weekends in the cottage over recent years we know the area very well and have many friends amongst the residents. It is a friendly, relaxing place to unwind and recharge your batteries.

Early spring break.
This was the most delightful, cosy cottage with everything you could wish for and spotlessly clean. Set in beautiful surroundings, it is a bird lovers' paradise with every kind of bird feeding on the veranda, ducks and chickens in the fields not to mention other wildlife, horses and also four friendly black Labradors on the neighbouring farm providing amusement.
We are an older couple and found the countryside walks rather taxing but there was pleasure in visiting local villages in the car and enjoying delicious pub meals. (though many of them seem to close on Mondays!)
For a relaxing, peaceful break in an idyllic setting, nothing could be better and we can highly recommend Esther and Mike's beautiful cottage and the excellent service they provide.
Thanks to you both.
Thank you so much for your wonderful and very kind words. I am so glad you enjoyed staying in our much loved cottage and you are welcome back any time. I wish I had some influence over the pub opening times as I have felt the lack of a Monday opening at our local myself, I think it opens Mondays during the peak season.
Peaceful location in beautiful countryside
We stayed at this cottage to recover from a very stressful situation and we couldn't have been luckier than to have chosen this place. The cottage is well kept, clean and has a fully equipped kitchen. The bathroom has just been renovated and looks nice, modern and clean. The owner is very accommodating, friendly and responds very quickly. The location is just lovely and from the back patio you can see the rolling hills and watch the sunset everyday while listening to birds, ducks, geese and all other farm animals. This cottage is just 6 min drive from the main village where you can get your basics and just 3 min drive to a nice pub. We hope to one day come back to this place and would recommend it to family and friends for sure.
Lovely cottage in idyllic rural setting
We had a wonderful time staying at Mount Cottage, it's cozy, with a great view over the fields. The new bathroom was definitely a plus. There were neighbours in adjoining and nearby cottages within the complex, but we were barely aware of them.
Wonderful cottage holiday
We had a wonderful time in this lovely comfortable cottage. The views are spectacular and the neighbours were friendly.
A great stay!
This charming cottage was just what was needed to re-charge our batteries. Within a small settlement, it didn't feel too isolated - half an hour's walk from the nearest pub with good beer and hearty food. Walks in the countryside straight from the front door. Ideal for longer distance walks and cycle rides on the moors. Fabulous south facing view. In May the sunrise was fantastic (if out of bed early enough) over Penyghent and in the afternoon the terrace was a great place to sit to watch the sun as it lowered in the west. Birds on the feeders, including a woodpecker. No need to switch on the flat screen TV. Well equipped kitchen & a newly fitted shower room. We had a very comfortable stay.
Thank you for your lovely review, I'm so pleased you enjoyed your stay at Mount Cottage, please come back soon.
The cottage was absolutely lovely and in a very beautiful setting. It had everything you could want.
We had a wonderful short break in this cosy, well equipped cottage with stunning views and fantastic walks. Esther has thought of everything to make the stay perfect! There is so much to explore in the local area. We were sad to leave and are very keen to return.
The coastal town of Morecambe is approximately 15 miles away, Arnside and Silverdale are also within easy driving distance.
