House in Grasmere, Lake District, Cumbria, England - In The Heart Of The Lake District National Park
About Lindsay Rogers
We loved holidaying in the Lake District but never found a self-catering cottage that was suitable as one of our children uses a wheelchair. We bought Rothay Lodge & Apartment in 2003 and made both properties wheelchair accessible and provided everything that we would want from a holiday home.
Lindsay Rogers purchased this Cottage in 2003
Why Lindsay Rogers chose Grasmere
Grasmere is not only a lovely village and good base for fell walking but there are some lovely low level walks which are suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs

A perfect place for a family to celebrate together
A wonderful house, equipped with everything you need for a family get-together, in wonderful village, owned by a friendly and helpful Lady, who was always quick to respond to questions. We had a wonderful stay. Highly recommended. Thank you Lindsay
Perfect Grasmere location
Well stocked house, with fast WiFi, and easy walk into the village. Grasmere, is a beautiful village with an abundance of walks right from the village. There are plenty of pubs, and restaurants within easy walking distance of the house.
The dining room and living room accommodate 8-10 people. Three bedrooms have double beds, a little too small for most couples. The up stair bathrooms are dated but work. One double bedroom has a very small shower behind a curtain in the corner of the bedroom, a sink in the room, and the toilet in a private hall way. I wouldn't think of this as being en-suite as described in the property details.
Two parking spots for a five bedroom house might be a problem for some groups. There is parking on the street, at the end of the driveway, but those spots are taken by 9-10AM and open up again in the early evening.
I would rent the house again but wouldn't use it for 10 adults due to the three double beds and the weird shower in the back bedroom..
Great location and lovely Lodge
Great location. The lodge is fantastic. Well appointed kitchen. 5 lovely big bedrooms en suite. Lovely gardens
Fortnight at Rothay Lodge
Really enjoyed our extended family stay at Rothay Lodge with its wonderful situation in Grasmere. The Lodge is very well appointed with an attractive garden and plenty of room for active children.
Parking with larger vehicles can be a bit challenging.
Only negative was the downstairs toilet/shower room which had a distinctive “drainy” smell.
Thank you very much for your review, Geoffrey. We do sometimes get a drain smell in the downstairs shower if it has not been used for some time. The problem is quickly solved by running the shower for a few seconds so that the water trap is filled. I'm sorry I didn't know about it until after you left.
A perfect stay.
Perfect house, beautifully situated for fell walkers, in the middle of the Lake District.
After a long search we found one downside at Rothay Lodge. If we used the oven, the fire alarm went off immediately. We switched it off and installed it back on our departure.
We are coming back!
Family get together
Lovely house for holiday. Car parking could be better.
There is a beach area at the South end of Grasmere lake which is on a popular walk around the lake which takes about an hour.
The nearest airport is Manchester, about a 2 hour drive away. The nearest train station is at Windermere, a few miles away and with a good bus service to Grasmere.
5 minutes to walk to the centre of Grasmere village
The main attraction of Grasmere is its position in the centre of the Lake District National Park with many walks starting there. The picturesque village itself has plenty of restaurants and pubs for eating.
