Provencal townhouse in town centre, with lots of original features and roof terrace, sleeps 4/

A delightful 18th Century town house in the heart of the medieval village of Vence. Situated down a quiet side street, it is only a few steps away from the local farmers market in the morning, the delicious smelling bakeries and the main square cafés (Place du Grand Jardin). There is also a public underground car park within a 1 minute walk from the house.

Owned by the same family for two generations this cosy french town house has kept it's original stone walls and wooden beamed ceilings and has local art throughout. It is on 5 floors with a spacious and bright open plan salon and kitchen on the 4th floor with all the necessary amenities (WIFI/TV , large dining table, Electric stove and oven) for relaxing and entertaining.

It has two bedrooms, one with a kingsize bed and en-suite bathroom and toilet, the other with twin beds that can convert into a double bed if desired with an en-suite shower room and toilet. In the downstairs lounge on the ground floor there is a double sofa bed (sized suitable for 2 children to share or one adult and a child).

The fifth floor has a small tranquil roof terrace with marble table & chairs overlooking the provencal rooftops with mountain/sea views. Ideal for a bit of sunbathing, finishing a good book or enjoying a glass of Rosé at aperitif time in the cool evening air!

The closest public car park is a 1 minute walk away (under the Place du Grand Jardin) and has a great deal for a weekly subscription.

Vence also has regular buses to all the “must see” destinations of the Cote d'Azur. St Paul de Vence for the Arts, Grasse for it's perfumeries, Cannes for the Croisette and beaches and Nice for an authentic Southern France City day out. Centrally positioned and only half an hour from the International Airport Vence is an ideal base for visiting the French Riviera!

We are an English family from Nottinghamshire, and my sister and I first started coming to Vence for summer with our parents around 20 years ago. We have been coming back to the town for holidays every year since!

Why James & Jill Phinn chose Vence

This is a very central (just behind the main Place du Grand Jardin) and a short walk to the town centre and local shops, restaurants, bars and galleries. Benefits from a rooftop terrace/patio with views over the mountains and to the sea in the distance.

What makes this house unique

There is plenty of space in the house to relax, wine and dine with friends and family, with a large table and lovely adjoining kitchen. The salon is in traditional French open plan style with stone walls, beams and traditional pendant lighting, with fireplace, L- settee and TV.

This leads up to a roof terrace rare amongst townhouses in Vence, looking out over the rooftops of the old town, and over to the Baou mountains in one direction and the distant sea in another. We often retreat there for a drink and to eat in the cool evening air!

Outside: A beautiful roof terrace on the 4th floor, with retractable awning and marble table and chairs, provides a welcome outdoor relaxing and dining area, with lovely views over to the Les Baou hills, and also rooftop views to the distant Côte d'Azur sea. Utility Room: Utility room off the cave (ground floor) contains a washing machine, iron and ironing board, clothes dryer and other equipment. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Fresh towels and linen are provided, and the house is cleaned prior to stay (and more frequently by arrangement for an additional fee). Cleaning and linen fee of 100 euros is charged per stay, payable on arrival.

Great home in the old town

We really enjoyed our stay. The house had everything we needed. Two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a nice kitchen and living area, along with a nice roof deck. We enjoyed our stay.

Nice property in a very good location.

We stayed in the house in Vence for one week in July. The house was clean and comfortable, nicely furnished and suited us fine. We were able to explore Vence as the house was situated right in the centre of the town, this said, it was a peaceful location as well so best of both worlds. The house does have a lot of stairs so I don't think it would be suitable for anyone with mobility issues. Good property though, in a great area with plenty to do and see and a lovely French town to feel part of.

Wonderful week in Vence

My family enjoyed a wonderful week-long stay in this property. The town house is unique, conveniently located, very clean, and had everything we needed. We shopped for food at the nearby market, bakery, and grocery store, and enjoyed meals on the rooftop terrace. Melissa, the rental agent, did an excellent job of orienting us to the property and was lovely to work with. We are grateful to have found this property.

Pleasant, well appointed condo in Vence

We 2 couples enjoyed staying in this French country condon in Vence located in Province. The 4 flights of stairs kept us healthy and provided both togetherness and privacy. We would recommend both the great location and pleasant home.

Wonderful property in terrific hill town.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Phinn property in Vence. The property itself is an excellently restored townhouse style apartment in an old building. (Well, new compared to the old city across the street--built in the 1600s.) The manager, Melissa, was helpful and courteous.

The apartment is located 100 meters from one of the gates to the old city, and the same distance from the central Place du Grand Jardin, which has an excellent fruit and vegetable store as well as farm stands offering local produce and cheeses almost every day. The most important bus stop in Vence--the end of routes to the city--is about 250 or 300 meters away. From there one can travel to Nice, Grass, or surrounding hill towns. It takes about 15 or 20 minutes for Uber drivers to arrive. Uber fares to nearby hill towns are reasonable, although not as reasonable as the E1.50 price on the buses.

The apartment has two very nice, large bedrooms with bathroom attached or across the hall. One has a tub/shower, and the other a shower. Water pressure is so-so when having a hot shower. The place is ideal for four. The first floor salon can provide sleeping quarters for two more, but they must share the bathroom on the floor above.

The flat is on four floors, with a salon and laundry room on the first or ground floor (counting American-style), with the bedrooms on floors two and three, and the well-appointed kitchen/sitting room on floor four. So one must be able to climb three flights (and take luggage up one or two).

There is a great boulangerie around the corner and another across the street. There are a number of restaurants on the Place du Grand Jardin and around it. There are many others in town within walking distance. Grocery shopping is close by and excellent.

Vence is a hill town completely different in vibe from Nice and the coast resorts. We spent a week there after two in Nice, thoroughly enjoying it, and still returning to Nice twice. The bus takes an hour. Two different ones depart at about 45 minute intervals. When we did not want to wait for return buses from nearby hill towns--harder to time the schedul--we took Ubers at between 9 and 12 euros. Likewise when we stayed out beyond the times of bus services, which end in the early evening. The longest wait was after a show in one town--about 20 minutes or 25 at 10:30.

Altogether a great time.

Vence is full of small artist studios who offer a variety of courses, including pottery and painting. Children's art and pottery classes are available locally. The house is a short walk away from a wide range of local shops,pharmacies and supermarkets, including Rue de Marche, full of fresh produce. The local outdoor municipal heated swimming pool is a 5 minute walk away. A wide range of banks are within a 2 minute walk.
