Fabulous, spacious and fantastic pool
We really enjoyed our stay at Casa Eva. The villa was lovely, spacious and the children love playing in the big pool. We were regularly entertained watching the piggies going about their daily routine in the field opposite. Having a car for the 2 weeks we were able to travel along the West coast visiting various villages and beaches which were all amazing, we also visit several areas on the Algarve. We had a very relaxing 2 weeks and have already recommended the villa to several friends.
Hubby and I spent 7 very happy relaxed days in Casa Eva. The house is spacious and cool, which is really beneficial because outside it's really hot! The pool is a great size and an absolute must in such hot weather. We were very comfortable.
The road from Faro airport is a delight to drive, we were often the only ones on it, which makes the route to Casa Eva a quick hour.
The house and pool were exactly as described in the listing. The layout of the house is very attractive and was very cool in the heatwave - as was the pool!
The property is well maintained. Ourique and its super market are within easy reach - and we were very impressed to find tofu and other soya based products, as my husband is vegan!
However, on our first evening, we were surprised to find a lack of cooking utensils - there were only two saucepans, a medium and a small - in a house able to cater for up to 5 or 6 people. The following day, we bought more equipment from the supermarket, for which we have been reimbursed by Michael.
After a couple of days, I was slightly worried to find my skin was turning orange (not sunburn!) - and then I found that the white clothes that I machine washed were dyed a mottled orange (permanent). Apparently the tap water is from a bore and this is why the owner recommends using bottled water for drinking and in the kettle. In my view, the recommendation should include using bottled water for cooking and for washing fruit, salads etc - and for ice cubes of course. We have received some monetary compensation from the owner, who was very prompt with his responses.
We were looking forward to a relaxing holiday after a stressful year, with a little touring and sightseeing, but mostly to spending time at the house and in the pool. Extra lights in the house would have made reading easier in the evenings (large quantity of books etc available)!
There was no maid service, although the listing indicated that there would be a weekly visit. I had to change our bed linen and towels (of which there was a plentiful supply). I did machine wash some towels, but was not prepared to do a full laundry.
The property is well placed as a centre from which to explore the country and the coastlines, all within a reasonable drive.

The Romance and Peace of Casa Eva.
My wife, adult son and I stayed at Casa Eva between 20 July and 7 August 2015. We have been fortunate to have enjoyed many wonderful holidays over the years but Casa Eva was certainly one of the best.
The villa itself is very comfortable, offering everything we needed. It's a peaceful sanctuary set amidst enchanting countryside. We are by nature adventurous and used our (necessary) hire car to the full but, however full our days had been, it was always delightful to return to such a welcoming and alluring place.
The kitchen, bar-b-cue and excellent local supermarket encouraged us to cater for ourselves on most occasions but the local restaurants, once we'd found them, offer a very high standard of reasonably priced meals.
The pool is superb. We all used it frequently during the very hot days we were fortunate to have. The villa itself, with its high ceilings, keeps relatively cool but the fans were a welcome addition on occasion.
The Alenjento region has a plentiful supply of historic towns such as Beja, Mertola, Castro Verde and Monchique - all of which are well worth a visit. The roads reminded us of how Britain used to be, many years ago, clear, open and inviting; with the plentiful eucalyptus and cork oak trees lining them it often felt like driving through avenued gardens.
A forty five minute drive takes you to an Atlantic coastline strongly evocative of the best Cornwall has to offer. We particularly liked Zambuijeira and Arrifana.
Driving south, into the Algarve is very different but no less enticing, though it can become increasingly populated and commercialised, with more people speaking English, not always a bad thing!
A short trip to the north brings you to a deceptively quiet station at Funcheira where a number 28 inter-city train will quickly take you to Lisbon which is equally amazing and tiring, demanding far more than the few hours a return ticket allowed. It was wonderful to return to the peace of Casa Eva and leap into the pool!
There were many other things we enjoyed - the birds, the walks in the locale around the Villa, particularly in the evenings amidst the resin-scented air.
We were very sorry to leave Casa Eva and would love to return.
Laurence,Jill and Richard Arnold - Many, many thanks for your excellent review of Casa Eva. Michael

A Little Gem
A beautiful house, well kept and very clean. The kitchen was a joy to cook in if not using the barbecue each day. An idyllic setting with country side surrounding. A wonderful clean swimming pool to swim/play in and a bowls court under the trees! A fantastic supermarket a few minutes drive away and plenty of little villages/towns/lakes to visit. 50 minutes drive to the beach. A wonderful place to take a holiday.
Many thanks for your reveiw Sasha which earned a rating of 5 out of 5.
