Other important guidance and advice
Hire car or not? We recommend pick up of a hire car and drop off at the airport.
Airport transfer: but, some of our clients do not want a hire-car for the whole holiday or to drive. One solution is we can pick 3 people up at the airport and return clients to the airport for 35 Euro each journey. Also, we can offer lifts to some of the attractions including white sand beaches at Calheta and other places such as the start of walks for a reasonable fee per kilometre.
Nothing far away and plenty to do!: The village has a small supermarket, shops, a bank, medical centre, bars/cafes & restaurants. Popular activities in & around the village are: levada forest walks. Fishing, swimming, snorkelling & surfing. Paul do Mar is very flat for Madeira and easy to walk around, roller-skate & cycle! There are many festas (festivals) & the streets are alive with different languages as the locals who work abroad return home all year for a well-earn holiday with family and friends!
Free swimming is easy from certain points including the lagoon next to the harbour and the white sand beaches in Calheta town -10 min drive away.
-In the district with the most Laurisilva forest with famous walks such as the PR19 Paul do Mar - Prazeres and the ancient Levadeiro walk to Faja da Ovelha starting in the village and other walks such as The Levada Nova, Rabacal/Paul Da Serra walks including those to The 25 Springs not far away
Prazeres village has a small zoo art galleries, a small supermarket & some great restaurants.
"The villa was fantastic and we definitely recommend it!""
Family of 4 from Finland wrote in the Bela Vista Beach Villa Guestbook in December 2012:
"The villa was fantastic and we definitely recommend it...
It had everything we wanted.
We had a great vacation in Madeira.
The weather was nice 18-20 c and we swim in the Atlantic Ocean in Calheta beach, it wasn´t so cold.
Paul and Iva were very welcoming and helpful.
We´ll come again hopefully soon, Thank you!"
When we arrived we were greeted and shown around the property. It was clean throughout, smelt very fresh. Rooms were immaculate. Loads of relevant information about the island and brilliant advice in a handy booklet. The house is situated opposite the ocean and you can watch the sunrise and set from your bedroom if you wish. Near to some great restaurants and bars too. Can't fault anything about this bela vista
The area is very nice.
Lovely to wake up everyday and see the sea out of the windows.
Very clean and a really nice place to have you vacation.
Liked it that much will be going back again next year.
We just returned from our holidays in Bella Vista. We loved it & we'll return for sure. The location at the waterfront is breathtaking. The owners/housekeepers very friendly and helpfull. THANKS A LOT!
We had a great stay in this very spacious, comfortable, sunny apartment. It is very well equipped throughout and clean and well maintained. Paul was really helpful throughout our stay with information on the local festival and other activities and sorting out any queries quickly and efficiently. There are wonderful views out to the ocean and bars and a restaurant in easy walking distance. We had some fabulous walks in the area - and only regret was that our stay was all too short. Thank you.
The charming fishing village of Paul do Mar was the right choice for us and so was our beloved holiday home. We stayed there for three weeks, and when not exploring the island, we enjoyed every minute in this comfortable, well furnished and tastefully decorated modern house. It offers great, often breathtaking views of the ocean, but also banana fields and spectacular sheer mountain cliffs. Paul and Iva provided us with plenty of useful and inspiring information. We can highly recommend this house as well as two hiking trails starting in Paul do Mar with beautiful panoramic views and lots of nature: A historic, paved path from the harbour at the eastern end of the village up to Prazeres (535 m altitude) and an old, paved zigzag path from the western end of the village up to Faja da Ovelha (400 m altitude).
This is the perfect modern holiday home set in a beautiful little fishing village. The house overlooks the ocean, and the views and sunsets are breath taking. The house has all the modern amenities including wifi, and is perfectly maintained. Everything that is listed, was there, and the owners and management provide excellent service. The area is perfect for swimming, walking, hiking, running and cycling. The locals are very friendly and welcoming and the local cafes allow for tastes of the local traditional food and drinks. I would highly recommend the house to anyone looking for a home away from home.
Close to nature: still a centre for fishing and agriculture with a new fishing harbour and many banana fields 'Paul' is now more famous for ‘the feel-good factor’ – peace and relaxation in the country on the hottest Madeiran coastline with the most sunshine. This means that all can relax, swim and walk in these sunnier and hotter climes all year round! Popular amongst walkers, fishermen and swimmers with several safe swimming areas and closeness to famous mountain and levada walks PR 6 and the 'Rabacal/25 fountains' PR 19 walk. Attractions include White Sand Beaches next to Calheta Marina 10 minutes drive, a rum factory Engenhos with a museum, Prazeres village with 17th century church, fruit and vegetable market and ‘Quinta Pedagogica’ - a free animal park, art gallery and cider house! Plus, there is the award-winning international art centre: ‘Casa das Mudas’ & UNESCO-protected Ancient Laurisilva Forest. Whale/dolphin-watching and big-game fishing boats operate from Calheta Marina.
