Met the very friendly owner and given a good and informative handover, about the pine lodge and the local area. Very cosy and clean. Comfortable bed with good bed linen. The lodge is on the owners grounds but tucked away in a corner with ample privacy, a large veranda and views across the countryside, towards Burgh Island. We had a lovely stay.
Perfect little break
Perfect base to explore the beautiful area
very cosy ,clean and comfortable
Loved listening to the owls each night
And 12 hours sleep a night !!!
Wow factor 10, beautiful lodge, had everything we needed, close to an amazing beach and a pub that does amazing food and beer. Great host, Caroline, who made us welcome and then left us to enjoy our holiday. Beautiful part of South Devon, we will certainly stay at this perfect gem again, thanks
Used the lodge as a base for walking a section of the S.W. Coastal path. Absolutely loved it here. This year I have hired eight holiday flats, chalets and caravans (on the path) and this is my joint favourite, the other being a luxury apartment that cost three times as much.
Property was fine. A couple of minor cleaning issues were discussed with the owner and are being addressed.
Heron's Lodge is less than a mile to the family-owned sandy beach at Bantham, with its dunes and river mouth. It is possible to walk to the beach in under twenty minutes, or to drive there within a couple of minutes.
The nearest airport is Exeter, about an hour's drive away. Totnes railway station can take as little as half an hour in the car. Buses operate from Totnes railway station to Kingsbridge and a taxi would then be needed for the 10 min drive to the Lodge. Prebooked car hire is available from the railway station. Guests are recommended to bring a car, for maximum enjoyment of the area.
Kingsbridge is the nearest town; it is 3 miles away. Beautiful Salcombe, Dartmouth and alternative Totnes are within easy travelling distance by car. Plymouth, the nearest city, is about a 45 minute drive from Heron's Lodge.
Kingsbridge benefits from two large supermarkets, Tesco and Morrisons, and a wide range of local shops. There is a Farmer's Market twice a month. It has a good selection of places to eat. Kingsbridge also has a large leisure centre with a swimming pool, gym, squash and badminton facilities.

Caroline Montague purchased this Cabin in 2011
Why Caroline Montague chose Thurlestone
It is in an unbeatable location: Peaceful and quiet, near pretty thatched villages and 10 minutes drive from the picturesque market town of Kingsbridge. It overlooks Bantham and Bigbury sandy beaches, with a direct view of Burgh Island. Sometimes you can see what is reputed to be the world's only working sea tractor transporting people from Bigbury to the island. The art deco hotel on Burgh Island is often featured on travel programmes. Noel Coward and Agatha Christie have both stayed at the hotel, and one of Christie's Hercule Poirot movies was filmed there. The A38 and railway station are only 30 minutes drive away. Dartmoor is half an hour's drive. Beautiful Salcombe takes 20 minutes in the car and Dartmouth only 40 minutes. Plymouth city is 45 minutes away. What more can you ask for?
