About Brian Kallender and Lydia Tarttelin
My name is Brian Kallender. I live in a village just outside the City of Bath in Somerset with my partner Jean. I have always been a francophile and, being a subscriber to France Magazine, I came across an article about property in Languedooc. This prompted me to investigate further and we were particularly attracted to a new development that went under the name of Domaine des Capitelles. We paid a visit to the site and the rest, as they say, is history completing the purchase of No 7 in April 2003. I have now retired and both Jean and I visit as much as possible as it has become a home from home. Over the years we have built good friendships with many of the residents. The area is very welcoming. My children and grandchildren are frequent visitors and have affectionately re-named the property Chateau Brian! This is our first venture into commercial letting and my daughter Lydia is now managing the bookings.

Just as described
The property was a bit overlooked, but we weren’t expecting anything out in the countryside. It is conveniently located for the several very good restaurants in Fitou, and for the local supermarket. The property was also very well equipped.
The best house we have had in this area, nd we have had a few.
Lovely house, light, well equiped, lovely inside temperature with over all airconditioning. Outside area is big and spaceous. The area is for those loving the life of france, and the oporunities given, with so much to do arround. You need a car, and the beaches 10 miniuites away, is the best in Europe. This area is optimal with kids, considering the pool area, the safe environment, and all the families living within Domain de Capiteles.
Comfortable and Relaxing Holiday
We had a very enjoyable and relaxing holiday, the property had all the amenities we required, allowing us to concentrate on enjoying ourselves. The location is ideal for exploring the area, offering a relaxing retreat when returning from a busy day seeing some of the delightful places on the coast and inland. I would recommend this property to anyone wishing to visit this beautiful area of southern France.
A fantastic, spacious villa.
We had a fabulous holiday at Chateau Brian, with our three boisterous boys (13, 10 and 5). They loved cooling off in the swimming pools, whilst we reclined on one of the numerous sun loungers (the weather was glorious every day) and when they had tired of that, we were able to relax in the comfortable, spacious villa quite happily without being on top of each other. The outside area was a real bonus for the little one and the older boys took full advantage of the wifi! It was a Godsend to have air conditioning, meaning we all slept well and were rested after our fabulous holiday. The dishwasher and washing machine also came in very handy, infact the villa had absolutely everything a family could need, including buckets, spades and a parasol for the beach. We loved the nearby beaches, La Franqui being our favourite for crabbing and general fun! We also had a wonderful visit to the magical Carcassonne, medieval town about an hour's drive away and in the evenings we enjoyed driving down to Leucate Marina for a stroll and an ice-cream. There are a couple of supermarkets within Leucate but we used the huge Carrefour at nearby Claira, which had absolutely everything, including a Decathlon, incase you forgot to pack your swimmies, a McDonalds and plenty of clothes shops.
The location of the villa perfect for us, up in the hills away from the hustle and bustle of Leucate but still close enough to reach the facilities, albeit with a car. We loved staying at Chateau Brian, a real home from home, and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone.
Perfect Family Property
We spent a wonderful two weeks here last year. The property is clean, bright, very well cared for, comfortable and a real home-from-home. The air conditioning was a huge bonus too as we did have some very hot weather! The owner was a real delight to deal with and could not have been more helpful with suggestions and wanting us to get the very best from our holiday!
We went with our two teenage sons (15 and 19) and two of their friends. We all had a fabulous relaxed holiday with many an hour spent around the pool with the boys have great fun. We also enjoyed a few trips to the beach at Leucate. Care needs to be taken there with small children but there is plenty of sand for games and digging!
My husband and I drove down from Roscoff taking a couple of days to do so and the boys flew out to Bezier airport, about 1.5 hour drive away.
There is plenty to do and see and we were lucky enough to be there for the Fitou Wine Festival - our wine tasting glasses have pride of place back home!
I loved my daily walk down in to the village for bread and croissant/pain au chocolat and we enjoyed our internet fix with coffees at the café in the village. It is quite a walk back up the hill and there is parking in the village if preferred. There is also the small Spar store on the outskirts of the village for basic provision.
Drinks on the terrace of the chateau with the stunning view out over the etang to the sea - wonderful!
A trip to Carcassonne is a must.
All in all it was a fantastic property, a perfect relaxing holiday setting and would recommend it to anyone!
Wonderful place to be!
We really enjoyed this very spacious house in Fitou as a family with 5 people. The 2 bathrooms were nice. It was really hot end of July and we were happy to have an air-con in the living room and bed rooms. We ate most of the time in the evening outside and enjoyed the breeze, was a real pleasure!
There are some really minor things that have to be fixed with the house :
- the wind breaker has come of age and needs to be replaced.
- there was only one small and old frying pan, for 5 people definitely not perfect
It's not a big deal but I just wanted to list this so that for the next residents it will be even more perfect!
Pool & Excursions
The kids liked the swimming pool and wanted to go there every day in the morning. We made from Fitou excursions to many places and beaches in the region languedoc-roussillon. You definitely need a car to move around as it takes some time to get to the beaches but this wasnt an issue for us.
I would highly recommend this beautiful house to anybody to spend unforgettable holidays in Fitou!
