This period house has an outstanding country setting with views towards the Black Mountain, an outdoor heated swimming-pool, and a games barn all set in its own large secluded and secure garden. Its own private woodland extends to the south-east of the property and open fields extend on all sides. It is perfectly placed to explore the Gower and the South Pembrokeshire Coast. It is close to Aberglasney Gardens (2 miles), the National Botanic Gardens of Wales and beautiful Dinfwr Park. The surrounding area supports a wonderful variety of wildlife including Red Kites. There is fishing nearby on the River Towy. Golf, tennis and riding are all available nearby. The local town of Llandeilo (4 miles) offers good restaurants and interesting shops. The tourist attractions of Pembrokeshire are within easy driving distance.

About Robert Lankester
My wife and I are both teachers working in the independent sector. I am a Head Teacher, and my wife teaches drama and swimming. We have two children aged 22 and 28. We live in the countryside in Northamptonshire. We have a house in Wales and a villa in Turkey.
Robert Lankester purchased this House in 1949
Why Robert Lankester chose Llangathen
We inherited this house in 1998. It had been in the family for many years previously. My wife is half Welsh and she was brought up on the neighbouring Hafodneddyn Estate. For many years her grandmother lived in the house. We live and work in a boarding school in England but use the house as our main residence when we can in the holidays. However, in the summer we tend to be abroad so the house is available for holiday lets. It is also often available during term time. It is a most wonderful house which is an oasis of calm and we love spending time there. You will be staying in a much loved family home, but please do not expect IKEA throughout or hermetically sealed windows and doors!

Great family holiday
We had a fantastic week with something for all the family. We loved the house and the grounds. The Views were awesome & it was so quiet, great to get away from all the traffic. The pool was well used.A holiday we will never forget.
I am so pleased you had such a lovely time. Please come again.
Beautiful remote property
After a long drive I was surprised at how easy it was to find this gem. The location is absolutely stunning even though the weather was terrible. The house itself is very spacious and well equipped for everything you could possibly need . The kitchen especially being he central hub of the house is brilliant as it seemed most of the time was spent there. Plenty to do in the surrounding areas although quite a drive to some of the attractions and had a couple of lovely walks around the area. Overall I wanted a peace and quiet for New Year and this property exceeded my expectations of this. Will be looking to book in summer next time to enjoy all the outside space
Thank you for your great review. I am delighted that you had such a good stay - sorry about the weather. You were perfect guests and we would be very pleased to welcome you back again.
Don't know where to start really. This has been the most tranquil, peaceful holiday we've ever had.
The house is gorgeous- I kept getting lost for the first couple of days. The new kitchen is spectacular and this is where we spent most of our time - eating, drinking and playing board games whilst taking in the glorious views from every window.
Outside is just as lush and we were in the pool come rain or shine. The games barn is great entertainment for a few rounds of darts, pool and ping pong after tea!
The house was really clean and well looked after and all the rooms smelt lovely and fresh. We all said how comfy our beds were.
Altogether an awesome holiday - sad to leave but looking forward to going back already.
Thank you x
Fabulous home from home.
We had the most amazing week at Cilfargen, weather was fantastic so boys spent a lot of time in the swimming pool, exploring the woods and playing ball games. House was very homely with all the comforts and more.
we will definetely be considering going back.
Thanks for a memorable holiday.
Beautiful property and completely private
Whilst the first two days were cold and raining this did not deter us as we ran quickly into the gloriously warm swimming pool. We were lucky that the weather then turned for the better so we could enjoy the garden as well.
We had a lovely relaxing time, so much so that we looked to see if we could book the second week as well, but alas it had already been taken.
We spent much of our time in the beautiful kitchen which is so spacious and modern. Although our party comprised of 6 adults and two children aged from 5 months to 52 years the property accommodated us all with room to spare. There was something for everyone from enjoying the beautiful gardens, tournaments in the games room to lazing in the heated swimming pool.
Thank you Robert and family for letting us enjoy a week of luxury. I would not hesitate to recommend this property and would be delighted to visit again.
Lovely views - house needs updating and cleaning
House was not very clean when we arrived, the oven was filthy. Games room was covered in pigeon droppings.
The kitchen was very nice but the rest of the house needs a facelift. Looks good from the outside.
The view and setting cannot be faulted, it was excellent.
Overpriced compared to other more luxury properties in this area.
Thank you for your comments. Sorry you didn't like our decoration. This is our home. It is not just for holiday lets. We don't redecorate every year and I know that some of the paintwork isn't the freshest. However, I think your suggestion that the house needs updating is pretty offensive. As for the cleaning, we were there ourselves just before you arrived and left it spotless. The oven was certainly not filthy. The games room was not covered in pigeon droppings; this is rubbish. I can't help thinking that some of your negative comments are motivated by my complaint that you used all our spare towels and smoked in the attic bedrooms. Seems like a bit of tit-for-tat going on here.
Changeover Day: The change-over day is Saturday. The house must be vacated by 10:00am on the day of departure. Arrival may not be before 4:00pm.
