About the property

A three bedroom gite 'Berenice' and a two bedroom gite 'Cedia' set in fifteen acres of stunning Normandy countryside with glorious open views at Bellefontaine near Mortain. Each of these single storey gites has a lovely rustic feel, provides comfortable accommodation with modern conveniences, a fitted kitchen, electric heating, are attractively furnished and have an open log fire available.

Hardwood patio table and chairs furniture is provided on each veranda to enjoy sitting outside. It's a wonderfully peaceful location, with a TV and DVD player available in each gite to also watch DVD's.

A very peaceful and lovely quiet location! The local town of Mortain is only five minutes drive away, with beautiful waterfalls (the Grand Cascade & the Petite Cascade), the Abbaye Blanc (white abbey), the Petite Chappelle with its view-point (Mont St. Michel can be seen on a clear day), rock climbing, lovely walks, an open-air swimming pool in summer, restaurants, cafés, art gallery, supermarkets and shops. Go-Karting is available en-route to Mortain.

Many other attractive and historic market towns are also within easy travelling distance in this wonderful area.

The key for gite 'Berenice' will be left on the inside of the entrance door in the lock, and also the same for gite 'Cedia'.

Linen can be provided on the following beds:

one double, two twin beds, and two bunk beds in gite 'Berenice',

one double and two bunk beds in gite 'Cedia'

Please remember to bring your own towels and tea-towels.

'Berenice' and 'Cedia' are non-smoking please.

The SatNav location address is: Chemin de l'Eglise, 50520 Bellefontaine, Manche, Normandie-Bas.

(off the D33 Route du Moulin in Bellefontaine village).

Follow the brown tourist signs towards the 'Village

Enchante' when you're in the local area as this will help bring you close to your destination.

After you've turned in to Chemin de l'Eglise itself (off the D33 Route du Moulin main road in Bellefontaine) pass the church which should be located on your right hand side and then after about 50 metres turn right into a narrow lane, passing the church on your right hand side first if necessary.

Proceed around a left-hand bend and then along here for about 100 metres towards the entrance way directly ahead.

Once here turn along right for 'Berenice' which is found 50 metres on the left hand side - it is the third gite up

from the end.

'Berenice' has an almost level roadway access, vehicle

parking space suitable for two cars, and with a gently

sloping pedestrian pathway approach round the side to the front of the gite.

For gite 'Cedia' you turn left after the entrance way and

proceed down the private road around to the last gite on the left.

NOTE: Please avoid parking below gite 'Cedia' because if the grass roadway at the side there becomes wet it is extremely difficult for a car to climb the slope up from below.

Also please be careful to avoid getting stuck if it has been raining as it can sometimes get a bit muddy on that part of the road track.

The entrance door handles can sometimes be a bit stiff - pushing firmly downwards to open and pulling firmly upward prior to locking is advised please.

The key will be left on the inside of the entrance door lock.

Please leave the key there on departure at the end of your stay.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Please avoid parking below gite 'Cedia' because if the grass roadway at the side there becomes wet it is extremely difficult for a car to climb up the slope from below.

About David Line

We live in Harleston in Norfolk, but thoroughly enjoy France and our own holidays over there staying ourselves in one or other of our two Gites 'Berenice' and 'Cedia' at lovely Bellefontaine.

We renewed the kitchen in each of the Gites, have re-decorated them regularly and tried to make them as comfortable as possible whilst retaining their authentic and rustic feel.

The Gites are in an ideal location for quiet relaxation and enjoying the beautiful views available from each veranda.

David Line purchased this cottage in 2009

Why David Line chose Bellefontaine

We love this wonderful area because, although it's relatively quiet, it also offers a huge range of places to see and things to do in the surrounding area.

The nearest beaches are about 45 minutes drive west.

Road travel is very easy, with minimal congestion and usually free parking in towns almost everywhere.

The nearest shop is at St. Barthelemy village which is about 3 minutes drive away.

The views from the Gites themselves are incredible as you can see for miles over the beautiful open Normandy countryside.

It's only a 5 minute drive to the nearest local cafes at Le Neufbourg, which is on the way to the interesting local town of Mortain with its waterfalls (cascades), extensive shops, restaurants and other facilities, including an outdoor swimming lido available in the summer.

What makes this cottage unique

The Gites are situated in a very secluded and we believe safe location which is ideal for young families, or if you're just wanting to chill-out peacefully yourselves.

We have people living nearby who clean the Gites, change the linen and are available to assist should the need arise.

(they are English but live permanently out there and contact phone numbers will be provided to you on booking).

Guestbook comments from the owner

We went to Number 3, tired & worn out. The fantastic view stirred us out of our stupor, and after a couple of quiet peaceful relaxing days we were ready to start site seeing. There is loads to do & see in the area and it is a good base to set out from for other areas.

To wake up, open the window, & just gaze and listen to nothing, priceless.

Weather was ok, but it was late September. Going back ??? YOU BET !

Rob & Joy. Botesdale Suffolk

We stayed here in cottage 11, which had lovely views out across the countryside and was well decorated and equipped inside. The veranda is a real highlight of this cottage as the evening sunsets were glorious and from this cottage you can't see any of the others in the park so you have a lovely feeling of space. There are about 10 cottages in a very large area of green space so it's not at all crowded.

Notes on accommodation: Gites are Non-smoking. The SatNav location for both Gites is: Chemin de l'Eglise, 50520 Bellefontaine, Manche Follow the local brown tourist signs towards 'Village Enchante'. After you've turned in to Chemin de l'Eglise off the D33 Route du Moulin take the narrow lane which branches off about 50m to the left of the pretty church, after first passing it on the right if necessary. Proceed around a left-hand bend and then along for about 100m towards the entrance way ahead. Once through here turn right for gite 'Berenice' which is found 50m down on the left hand side. Alternatively turn left for gite 'Cedia' and follow the access road downhill for about 50m to reach the last gite along on the left. NOTE: You should park above gite 'Cedia' in wet conditions for easier access as the roadway further on can get slippery and difficult to manage. The entrance door handle(s) can sometimes be a bit stiff - push firmly down to open and pull firmly upward prior to locking. Outside: Our gites 'Berenice' and 'Cedia' are set with eight others in fifteen acres of wonderful open countryside available for shared use, with incredible open views. Please see a video at the youtube link: Each of the gites has its own small garden area and a veranda, with hard-wood patio table and chairs furniture provided to enjoy sitting outside. Trees and shrubs also abound in the open land and add to the very rural setting. There are many local walks immediately available nearby. Explore the pretty local village of Bellefontaine and the surrounding farmlands. Cows and horses are often to be found grazing in the farmer's fields in the area. Keep dogs on leads if nearby please. Have a lovely time enjoying the views!
