About Julia Keitley
We are a family of four from Hampshire. We have had many happy holidays in Issigeac and the surrounding area and when the opportunity arose to buy an old stone farmhouse on the edge of the town we couldn't resist it!
Julia Keitley purchased this Farmhouse in 2011
Why Julia Keitley chose Issigeac
Issigeac is a beautiful place with a fascinating history. It has long been a family favourite. The town is well-served with restaurants, cafes, bars and shops. Several of the restaurants are highly rated on Tripadvisor and attract visitors from miles around. We love the gentle rolling countryside in this part of France and the picturesque old houses nestled in the vineyards and the sunflowers. Issigeac is just 10 miles from Bergerac Airport and a great base for touring in the Aquitaine Region.
What makes this Farmhouse unique
Our house is perfectly located just a short walk from the centre of Issigeac and yet in a secluded position on the edge of the countryside. The house is tucked away down a country lane and so there is no traffic. We love being able to stroll into the town and to leave the car behind. There are also some lovely walks from our doorstep. Our house and the village of Issigeac were featured on the BBC Programme "Escape to the Continent" (Series 2:2 Dordogne).

Charming home in great location!
Relaxing spacious stone house with lovely pool situation near medieval village. Just what we wanted! Very private and easy to travel around the region, we had a great time. Will hopefully go back again soon!
What a lovely villa in a nice quiet area which had great things for the kids to keep them occupied lovely large garden to run around in,Plenty of inflatables for the kids to use in the swimming pool,My son enjoyed it because it had a table tennis table. The markets in Issigeac on a Thursday Friday night are definitely worth a visit as is the Sunday morning market all in the square. Absolutely wonderful to have a holiday
Beautiful, well-equipped and comfortable
We had an amazing holiday; we loved the farmhouse which was well -equipped, comfortable and provided nice cool respite from the hot, hot sun!
Issegiac is beautiful and I loved my morning trips to get fresh parties, what's not to like!
Having the pool and lots of games was an added bonus for all the family and we made lots of happy memories that will stay with us forever.
Just one plea - 2 hammocks please!!
Perfect for a peaceful holiday
Thank you Nick and Julia for all the help to make our holiday perfect. Your farm house is beautiful and well equipped, nice and clean, and nice to have pool towels included. we were very lucky to get a very hot week and the lovely pool was well used till late at night. There was nobody to disturb in the secluded area. Ron arranged for taxies to collect us and return us to the airport, thank you one again.
it is a nice 5 min stroll into the beautiful town. The Sunday market is a must, we stocked up with all our fruit and veg for the week, the produce is so nice and fresh. the bakery is open of a morning, so get your bread early and the other shops are a bit "hit and miss" with their opening times.
The food marked on a Thursday evening was enjoyed by us all. we were able to taste all the local produce and French delights!!!
We decided not to hire a car, because we wanted a totally relaxing break, which was what we got.
would not hesitate to recommend this property to anyone.
Om arrival at this lovely old farmhouse we were met by Ron the local representative who showed us around this stunning building Ron was also our contact if we had any problems and I am glad to say we didn't need him.
The kitchen was so well equipped with every imaginable utensil and plenty of crockery and glassware.Likewise there was an abundance of towels and also pool towels. We were fortunate to have good weather so we ate outdoors under the large pergola .However there was a large table and comfy sofas if needed and plenty of books, games,DVDs and leaflets.
We used the pool every day and although fresh!! You quickly got used to it again there are lots of outside games to enjoy in the huge garden.
We picked up a car at the airport and it was an easy drive to the property following the excellent directions that had been sent to us.
We travelled around The Dordogne visiting many places but it was always good to get back park the car and have a chill out in the sun by the pool (with a glass of local cheap wine).
Issigeac is a lovely place with a few bars, restaurants and shops and all only 5 minutes walk from the farmhouse, there are also footpaths if you fancy a stroll in the countryside .
A great place and could not recommend it more highly. You won't be disappointed
Firstly, communications and arrangements for our holiday with the owners were exemplary, including having to change our arrival date and time.
The house and grounds are fantastic and suited our family perfectly (2 adults and 2 teenagers (16 & 14)). The house is very rustic, so has its fair share of spiders and lizards scuttling about its nooks and crannies, but the facilities are excellent and we wanted for nothing. It really is a charming period property. We only used the TV for weather updates, but if you need UK tv it's all there with Freesat. There is no internet (wifi), but we saw this as a distinct advantage!
The pool was a great relief on the hot days, although a bit of a shock when you first get in; there is also plenty of shade should you wish to keep out of the sun. The grounds provided lots of space for games, including a couple of football goals, badminton/volleyball net and a tabletennis table. Bats, racquets, shuttlecocks and balls were provided, but you may want to take your own if you are in the more proficient bracket!
Undoudtedly the house's biggest selling point is its location; 5 minutes walk from the idyllic medieval village of Issigeac, yet in a very secluded location away from the road. All the local shops you could want for fresh bread, croissants, meat, cheese etc along with a variety of weekly markets offering farm produce, hot food and crafts (good quality, not your normal holiday tat!). There are also several restaurants and bars to cater for all tastes and budgets. The larger supermarkets are only a 15-20 minute drive away in Bergerac although there is a Spar along with an additional small supermarket in Issigeac. Issigeac is beautiful and unspoiled, the shopkeepers and locals were very friendly and happy to put up with very rusty 'O' Level/GCSE French. There is also a very helpful Tourist Information office in Issigeac that also has free wifi if you must connect while you're on holiday.
The Dordogne river and the more popular tourist spots were a 45 minute to an hour drive away and the roads did get very busy in the smaller villages.
So, in summary, a beautiful, well appointed house and grounds, in a secluded rural location, adjacent to a delightful, unspoiled medieval village but not too far from civilisation and the bigger tourist attractions should you need them...the perfect holiday location. We'd go back tomorrow!
There is a swimming lake with beach about 15 mins drive away in Lanquais.
365 miles from St Malo.
380 miles from Caen.
10 miles to Bergerac Airport.
There are two tennis courts, which are available for hire at the tourist office. Issigeac is surrounded by vineyards and the area is renowned for its wines including Monbazillac and Pecharmant. Boat trips and canoeing are available on the River Dordogne.
