Located one mile West of the lovely small fishing port of Eyemouth, Old Linthill is an secluded seventeenth century Scottish tower house perched on a hillside in the centre of a beautiful small estate with private trout fishing on two rivers and woodland walks. There are four bedrooms and three bathrooms plus a second sitting room with additional king-size double sofa bed giving accommodation for up to 10 guests in comfort. There is a large sitting room with open fire, beautiful wood-paneled dining room and a well-equipped kitchen.

Old Linthill has been in the Home family since it was built in the 18th century. In the past few years it has had a loving and extensive makeover, with new bathrooms installed, fresh paintwork, new central heating system and new beds, soft furnishings and appliances. We like to think that we have retained all of the character of the house while adding modern comforts to make your stay truly memorable.

It is located in 28 aces of woodland and parkland with streams running through, but while still being within walking distance of the fishing village of Eyemouth with its restaurants, bars, museum and leisure facilities.

Notes on accommodation: Pets accepted by prior arrangement with the owners. A personal chef is available by private arrangement. It may be possible to arrange massages and beauty treatments at the property. Outside: The house is surrounded by a garden immediately surrounding the house with countryside beyond. There is a paved area that is suitable for barbecues that leads on to grass and flower beds with pretty shrubs, roses and flowers. Beyond the formal garden are banks of daffodils and snowdrops in spring. There is a gravel area in front of the house with parking for around five cars. The house is surrounded by 28 acres of grounds and you are welcome to walk through these and enjoy them. In the grounds of Old Linthill there are two rivers. Trout fishing is possible and there are several of pretty woodland walks along footpaths by the rivers. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All linen and towels are included in the rental price. The property is cleaned once a week and linen is changed at this time. Additional cleaning and linen changes are possible by arrangement.

Wonderful family getaway

We stayed at Old Linthill with a group of family members for a short break and loved every minute! The house has lots of space and has been stylishly decorated with a different feel to all of the rooms. There are three bathrooms which is great when you have lots of people staying as there was never any pressure on bathroom space. Likewise there was plenty of comfy seating in the sitting room and a large table with more than enough chairs in the dining room so we never felt cramped. The kitchen is not massive but is very well-equipped and has more than enough pans and equipment to cook for 10 people. There is also a smaller sitting room which can be used as a bedroom but is also useful if somebody needs some space to go off and work or have quiet reading time. The house was lovely and warm and there always seemed to be loads of hot water.

We didn't have a chance to explore the countryside immediately around the house but we were told there were some nice walks. Our children loved the garden though and as the house is up a long driveway and set back from any roads we felt safe letting them run around. They loved seeing pheasants and hares and one morning we saw some deer too.

We liked the village of Eyemouth and recommend the fish and chips and wandering along the harbour and seafront. It was a bit too chilly when we visited to have ice cream but I am told that Giacopazzis - a local producer - is really worth a visit in summer. Our favourite place closely was Coldingham though. It has a lovely beach and it is worth visiting the ruined priory. St Abbs harbour is also lovely and felt like stepping back in time.

We loved this holiday and would like to come back for longer next time to explore properly.

The property is well-located for the beaches at Eyemouth. These are a mile and a half away from the house (around 4 mins driving time). Around 15 minutes drive away you will find the pretty village of Coldingham which boasts the renowned Coldingham Bay – a pretty site that is well-known amongst surfers.

Closby is the St Abbs Head marine centre and bird reserve. As well as offering walks with stunning views, it is known for its diving - with a good selection of wrecks - and marine life.


Nearest airports - Edinburgh and Newcastle. Edinburgh is around 1 hour away. Newcastle is around 1hr 30mins.

Berwick-upon-Tweed station is around 15 mins drive and is on the East Coast Mainline from London. Cars can be hired via East Coast Rentals in Berwick and collected at the station. There is also a taxi-rank at the station.

The property is situated just a few miles from the A1 trunk road between Edinburgh and Newcastle

Eyemouth is a bustling fishing port that is a popular holiday destination. Here you will find a Co-op supermarket, butchers, fishmongers, bakers, post office, pharmacist and other small shops. It also has a number of bars, restaurants and take-aways.

Eyemouth has been a fishing port since the 13th century and remains one of the busiest in Scotland, with around 80 boats. You can experience the atmosphere of a busy working fishing port up-close, and get up early enough and you can also witness the fishmarket. Visit Gunsgreen House, a remarkable property that overlooks the harbour and was a smugglers’ hideaway. Take a trip in the glass-bottomed boat that leaves from the harbour to see the coast, or go on a sea fishing trip. There is a sandy beach with rock pools as well as amusements. Try Giacopazzi's ice cream during your stay or eat fish and chips on the beach. Eyemouth also has a leisure centre with a swimming pool, toddler pool and excellent gym with views out to sea.
