About Mark McKeown
About the Owners: Zoe and Mark McKeown– we have three daughters and live in Cambridge. We love outdoor life and enjoy walking, beach life and good food. 2012 we decided to find a holiday home for us and our family so we could spend more time exploring and enjoying Suffolk throughout the year. We wanted Marquess House to be a home-from-home experience so we and our guests can travel light, knowing that everything you need to feel luxurious and comfortable is already there and catered for. Our children love Aldeburgh as we often came here in our VW camper van, but it is also nice now to be a short walk from the shops and the beach. It has been easy to integrate with the locals as they are so welcoming. The house has a perfect sized garden and 2 parking spaces.
Mark McKeown purchased this House in 2008
Why Mark McKeown chose Aldeburgh
Why we chose Aldeburgh: Aldeburgh is quintessentially English yet has a trendy atmosphere. It is a wonderful place for family holidays, young and old – those who enjoy walking, golf, tennis, sailing, beach, music & art galleries; restaurants & fish sheds for foodies and good pubs. You can walk to everything; it is the seaside in the countryside! I love the quirky shops and you really can buy everything you need here. It is easily accessed 2.5 hrs from London off the A12 and perfect to explore Suffolk and it’s coast.

Lovely house in a beautiful location
A lovely family house! Everything was in good order. There was all the kitchen equipment you could possibly need, and plenty of cooking and eating space. We had such lovely weather, a bonus, so we ate outside much of the time. The bedrooms and bathrooms were as described, and worked really well. The outside space meant the two year old could run about freely and safely. The parking accommodated our two large cars!
The location was superb, a short stroll to the High Street and beach, We ordered Click and Collect from Waitrose in Saxmundham, which we picked up on the way.
Thanks Liz, appreciate your kind words and hope you will return to the house again!
A great place for a family holiday.
What a lovely house. We had a great week, despite the weather! Just 2 minutes from the beach and the fish huts, as well as the shops on the High Street.
All the bedrooms were a good size, the children loved the attic bedroom and it's lovely bathroom. The kitchen had everything we needed to make several meals.
Mark was excellent, very helpful and easy to contact and communicate with.
We were a family group of 6, 4 adults and 2 children who found the space more than adequate for our needs, in a lovely quiet spot, but so well placed for all of the attractions on offer in Aldeburgh. Would have no hesitation in recommending the house and the town as a great place to stay.
Thanks for the kind review- we are glad you enjoyed your stay, and hope you will return soon. Mark
We have just enjoyed a memorable family Christmas at Marquess House. This is such a lovely holiday home in a superb location and one of those places that oozes character and just feels good to be in. It certainly has been renovated to a high standard with a well equipped kitchen perfect for Christmas festivities and ample ground floor living space. Light and airy with high ceilings, yet warm and cosy, complete with log burner and beautifully decorated Christmas tree in the lounge. A welcoming bottle of fizz awaited our arrival. All the bedrooms are charming with comfortable beds. The master, as with the lounge, has windows on two aspects which is always an attractive feature. Both bathrooms have good showers with stylish fixtures, yet remain in keeping with the house’s listed status. The owners have provided lots of helpful information about Aldeburgh and the surrounding area. We managed to fit in several walks and were treated to a stunning sunrise from the beach on Boxing day. The only downside was that we were not staying on for the New Year. Highly recommended.
We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay and hope you return to Aldeburgh soon. Mark and Zoe
Wonderful stay at Marquess House
We enjoyed our stay in such lovely accommodation- it truly felt a home from home! The location is superb, central to Aldeburgh and the beach, but tucked away in a leafy, quiet nook.
We hope to return soon!

Excellent house and location
This is a lovely house and the location is perfect with off road parking. A minute walk into Aldeburgh with a great selection of restaurants and shops.
We never want to leave.
Thanks Julia, glad you enjoyed the house, hope you come back again soon. Mark
Wonderful Aldeburgh getaway
Having stayed in Aldeburgh previously it seemed a bit too good to be true to find so keenly priced a property that was both centrally placed AND with parking. It was a tremendous relief therefore to discover that the house lived up very thoroughly to its billing and we had a lovely week's stay there. In practical terms, the property is large and airy (the second bedroom is a little snug and the bed in there noticeably uncomfortable but this is a minor cavill. The wardrobes are also a little idiosyncratic but on holiday that sort of thing is more charming than annoying. The bathrooms are both very good - it should be noted that the ensuite is for the twin room in the attic area, my assumption is that the original conversion intended this room to be the master bedroom, and the bathroom is noticeably better. There is no downstairs toilet. The kitchen is well equipped and roomy with good storage space. The nature of the conversion means that you enter the property through the garden but this is not a problem since the garden is secluded and off a private road - in fact, the garden is one of the best features of the place, with a full size garden set for six and a good Weber barbecue. The living room is well equipped and has the TV on the wall, so much better than the usual deployment in holiday rentals, and the blankets on the sofas are a nice touch, a lovely complement to the wood burner which made me almost wish we were there in the winter. All in all, a wonderful holiday rental that we all enjoyed very much.
Thanks Jeanette, appreciate you leaving a good review, and hope you return in the winter!
For others reading this, we have uploaded a video tour of the house, which should help with making your choice. Mark
